Meely: venlafaxine tapering below 12.5mg

Hi, In the last 2 years I've got myself down to 12.5mg Vensir XL. It's not been easy and I now know I tapered too fast. Hence the long hold at 12.5mg, I've been too scared to move.

I've now been on 12.5mg Vensir XL for 2 years or so. This is by tapering at 12.5mg a time taking out the 12.5mg mini tablets from the capsules.

So now I need to be able to lower my dose. Do I change to another brand and count the mini beads? I feel this would be the easiest way. If so, what brands in the UK to the mini beads?

Hope you can help, thanks

It can be difficult to get non standard doses with some of the generic versions of venlafaxine with the mini tabs.  Effexor is the one which has the tiny beads.  You might be able to get immediate release tablets but this will need to be taken at least twice daily.  Please carefully read Post #1:

Tips for tapering off venlafaxine (Effexor)

Even though you tapered too fast, according to what you have said, I am pleased that you did taper and that you held on your dose and found SA so that you can do a slower taper:

It is important to listen to your body/symptoms on not taper unless you are stable.  It is also a good idea to hold on a dose if you are sick or going through extra stress; even taking a holiday that you want to go on can be stressful.
