Post Covid Headaches and Amitriptyline

Hi I am posting on the behalf of my mother who is 74 years old. She has eye problems so she can't post herself.

She has been talking Amitriptyline for around 6 months. Her doctor prescribed the pills after she started getting really bad headaches post covid. She has had a small stroke many years ago and also has a cyst in the front of her brain.

She is currently taking 10mg of the generic brand Elavin.

She says she is gaining weight and feeling depressed. So she wants to get off the amitriptyline. I am doing the liquid taper myself with Mirtazapine so I can tell her how to do it. But I wanted to first get some advice or feedback.

I feel that the doctor should be involved because it is a neurological issue. But the doctor could also just tell her to do a cold turkey which also is dangerous.

Are there any neurologists in LA that know about the liquid method?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

N
