Simulacra Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) Original topic title: Dr Lovestrange and how I learned to love the SSRI Hello, newbie here So, back in the 90's I knew I had some issues, which I related to my mum, dad and grandpa dying when I was just a youngster. Paroxetine was given to me. It was a strong drug and, looking back, made me maniacal at times. I managed to taper off that over a period of months, but it was very tough. Back then the Internet was very new and there was not much information, but I did manage to find out I was not alone in my difficulties with this drug as it had been criticised in the media and was causing paradoxical effects in some, leading to suicides. So, fast forward a decade or so and I had some problems again, so onto Citalopram I went for ten years, up to 40mg at a particularly stressful point, then onto Sertraline as Citalopram was making me super lethargic, and now Venlafaxine 150mg. I was drinking heavily for a while and Venlafaxine does not tolerate this very well, but I have now managed to quit drinking for the last ten weeks. Hurrah! Venlafaxine is an SNRI, slightly different. So fat it is working well, now I have quit the drink, and life itself is improving steadily as I have more energy and I have managed to finally get the courage to tackle problems I have left for far too long. Moderator Emeritus Onmyway Posted November 1, 2022 Moderator Emeritus Posted November 1, 2022 Dear @Simulacra Welcome to SA. We are a site that assists people who are trying to come off of their psychiatric drugs. We try to help them taper in such a way as to minimize withdrawal effects. We also help people who are in withdrawal and suffering intensely. We see the immense harm done by psychiatric drugs every day and do not share your enthusiasm about them. I'm glad that you're liking your drugs and hope that you keep finding them useful. If you'd like to learn about proper tapering, please see the links posted above. If you want to discuss your excitement about your drugs though, I don't think you'll find the right crowd here. There are plenty of other groups that you can find who might share your enthusiasm. I hope you find a community there. If you'd like our help with tapering or withdrawal, do let us know. Remember that people may be able to stop their drugs once without suffering from withdrawal symptoms but subsequent stops might be more painful due to kindling. We advise caution and proper tapering if you ever decide to come off of your drugs. Be well, OMW 1 "Nothing so small as a moment is insurmountable, and moments are all that we have.
