mejomaty Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Hi- Two weeks ago I quit taking 15 mg. of mirtazpine after being on it for 5 weeks to treat insomnia. Well, what a mistake taking that was! I now have my friend insomnia back but worse than ever and am anxious all day long (that was never a problem before). I know it's just my brain re-adjusting but how long will it take? I hate to take sleeping pills but have to every other day just to get a few hours of relief. The only other psychotropical medications I take are flurazapam as needed for sleep. I have been taking it for 32 years but only as needed
Moderator Emeritus Shep Posted February 1, 2023 Moderator Emeritus Posted February 1, 2023 Hi, @mejomaty Welcome to Surviving Antidepressants. Since you've only been off for 2 weeks, I would recommend reinstating. You may not need the full amount you were previously on, since your brain may already be adjusting to not having the drug in your system. You may try 7.5 mg and see if that is enough to help with sleep. Mirtazapine is a drug where the lower doses actually help with sleep more than the higher doses - the lower doses have a high affinity for histamine receptors, making it more sedating at low doses. Please see: About reinstating and stabilizing to reduce withdrawal symptoms Tips for tapering off mirtazapine (Remeron) Why taper by 10% of my dosage? The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization Is mirtazapine the only psychiatric drug you've ever been on? Are you currently taking anything else? Please set up a signature so we have your drug history. Here is how: How to Summarize Your Drug History in Your Signature A direct link to your signature is here: Account Settings – Create or Edit a signature Please continue to use this thread to document your taper and recovery. For tonight, I would take 7.5 mg and see if you can get some much-needed sleep.
