Hi!

I ended up taking 1 pill of sertraline 25 mg 3 days ago.
I took it after months of anxiety and up and down mood which has been affecting my family life . Therapy would have been months away and I am honest : I was hoping for a quick fix and tired of feeling not a normal person and be the cause of sorrow in my family . My partner had enough of my sadness and pretty much told me to do whatever I wanted . Left with no support I just wanted to get better . I so regret it .

anyway , within the hour of taking I felt different : no anxiety ..nothing really . I felt nothing but I guess after months of anxiety and panic it felt good in a way . Then , within hours my genitals went numb . My clitoris felt numb . Took 3 times longer to orgasm and it felt complete pleasureless.
It scared me but I didn’t even care that much . I stopped taking the tablets .
3 days later I’m a mess . Been unable to sleep , panicky , anxious , and I’m still numb al thought it’s a little bit better . I felt some pleasure from an orgasm but it’s like 40% from what it was and it takes forever to get there . Like they put numbing cream on .

I’m scared that it will never go away and I’m also emotionally worse than before I took the tablet .

any hope of me recovering ?

thanks for reading

Welcome to SA, Ansia90.

To give members the best information, we ask them to summarize their medication history in a signature -- drugs, doses, dates.  In your case, just Sertraline, the dose and the date of the single dose.  No symptoms.

What you've experienced in an adverse reaction to Sertraline, which means that the drug is poison to your system, which has destabilized (temporarily) your nervous system.   The symptoms of an adverse reaction are similar to those of psychiatric drug withdrawal, and the numbness and other symptoms you describe are very typical.  The good news is that these symptoms will fade away in time.  We can't predict how long it will take for you to return to normal, but the fact that you're already experiencing some relief is a very encouraging sign.  So there is every hope of you recovering.

Regarding your anxiety and low mood, we recommend non-drug coping skills to deal with them.    Try and remain as calm as possible and not to panic.  Read through this link:

 Non-drug techniques to cope

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium (glycinate is a good form) and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

Add in one at a time and at a low dose in case you do experience problems.

This is your introduction topic -- the place for you to ask questions, record symptoms, share your progress, and connect with other members of the SA community.  I hope you’ll find the information in the SA forums helpful for your situation.  I'm sorry that you are in the position that you need the information, but I am glad that you found us.
