Lukas1: 2 years off Lyrica and no progress, is there hope?

Lukas1

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I took lyrica 300 mg for 4 years, then i withrawed it in 6 months, now i am 2 years off and my symptoms havent improved at all. I have nad visual symptoms, worst are massive visual snow and blurry circles on sides of vision, then i have joint pain and tinittus.

How big is chance it will improve?

I read that when someone complains, people tell him that it will be ok because he already had some progress, so its a good sign.

But i havent got any progress at all.

Welcome to SA, Lukas1.

Could you please put your drug history into a list, with the date you started the Lyrica, the dose, the date you began your taper and the date you finished?  Plus any other psychiatric drugs you've taken.  Do it in a list format as opposed to a paragraph format.

Account Settings – Create or Edit a signature.

You are experiencing what is called protracted withdrawal, which means withdrawal that lasts a long time.  Doctors unfortunately don't know much about withdrawal from psychiatric drugs and don't believe it exists, but it is very real.  All the thousands of members here have experienced it or are experiencing it right now.  The symptoms you describe in your post are typical withdrawal symptoms.  Many of us here are dealing with the same thing you are--withdrawal that lasts a long time.

To  answer your question: There is an excellent chance that you will improve.  The fact that you haven't had any improvement in two years doesn't mean anything.  Everybody is different.  Your nervous system is taking its own time to heal.  Some people heal more quickly, others take longer.  There is no way to predict how long the healing will take.  But it will happen for you.

We don't recommend a lot of supplements on SA, as many members report being sensitive to them due to our over-reactive nervous systems, but two supplements that we do recommend are magnesium (glycinate is a good form) and omega 3 (fish oil). Many people find these to be calming to the nervous system.

Add in one at a time and at a low dose in case you do experience problems.

This is your introduction topic -- the place for you to ask questions, record symptoms, share your progress, and connect with other members of the SA community.  I hope you’ll find the information in the SA forums helpful for your situation.  I'm sorry that you are in the position that you need the information, but I am glad that you found us.

  • 1 month later...

Hello all,

So i have been off lyrica for 2 years with no progress in protracted withdrawal, i have more symptoms but the ones that are killing me are visual effects, especially very dense visual snow which makes it hard to drive or even work.

I want to try reinstating for 1 month (each week i will try different dose to see if any dose i took in history will help), i want to ask that if reinstatement wont work and i stop it after 1 month, can i lose the invisible progress my body made during 2 years off? i dont think that 1 month can remodel brain significantly. I also want to ask if trying reinstatement for 1 month can give me permanently worse symptoms even if i stop it suddenly when i will see the symptoms got worse?

Thanks for this site,

I really cant function like this anymore....

I have no idea what any degree of reinstatement would do, particularly in respect to your most troubling symptom, the visual snow.

It sounds like some of your symptoms are an emotional reaction to the protracted withdrawal symptoms rather than protracted withdrawal itself. Please try to be patient and not let this overcome you.

Many people find these to be helpful:

Magnesium, nature's calcium channel blocker

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

You might try a low dose of one at a time to see what it does for you.

After you stopped Lyrica in June 2021, did you have other withdrawal symptoms?

Hello, thanks for reply.

I also have very little muscle pain but its not big problem, the vision is.

I am depressed also because i have pssd after stopping another antidepressant 7 months ago, i feel like its too much problems on me, thats why i consider risking reinstating because having improved eyes would ease the situation.

I want to believe i will recover, only thing that prevents me from doing so is that i dont understand why would brain started to recover years after no progress, why brain wouldnt do it earlier if it really wanted to?

And yes, i tried the supplements too with no avail.

Except for PSSD, correct? Please update your signature with all recent psychiatric drug changes.

Sorry, we cannot tell you if reinstatement of Lyrica or sertraline might help. When PSSD has occurred, since antidepressants can cause sexual dysfunction, I would not suggest reinstatement of an antidepressant.

This thread explains a lot: It is written about healing from benzo's. But is applies more or less in the same way for all psychotropic drugs.

Hello

I fully completed my singature. I decided not to reinstate lyrica because i have PSSD from zoloft, and also i think that if i reinstated lyrica, i would have to taper it for many years if  i am now 2 years off without progress in recovering.

Can people recover even if they dont have windows and waves? Like for example can their syptoms gradually improve over years without waves?

Hello all,

so since i tapered lyrica 2,5 years ago, i still have weird visual effects and joint pain to this day.

I believe for recovery one day as this site has made me believe and keep surviving, howewer, i need to understand something.

When you have protracted withdrawal, does it only improves in wawes or can it improve gradually too? So i know what to expect.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi @Lukas1

I've moved your new post back here.

Please don't start new threads for your situation...keep posting here so other moderators don't need to start from scratch each time you post.

I've read over the comments of the others above, and they've all said exactly the same as I would. They've also posted the links that I would.

It takes time to recover from a CT.

You mention the CT from Lyrica, but the WD symptoms from the rapid taper off Zoloft 18-months ago would be causing WD Symptoms, too. You took 50mg for 6 years, then stopped 4 months?

Time and continued patience...
