Sdoft: Getting off Sertraline after 10 days

Recommended Posts

Have been taking Sertraline for 10 days. Prescribed 50mg and have only been taking 25mg as directed.

Been having mild side effects including emotional blunting, nausea, increased anxiety and sexual dysfunction. Even though I can manage the side effects taking Sertraline has made me realize that I want to try to manage my anxiety without medication. I'm not sure that SSRI drugs are the right path.

Found this form and I'm worried about quitting cold turkey as my doctor has told me to. Is stopping after 10 days risking withdrawal symptoms? I've seen conflicting information here but I think it's mostly advice for those who have taken medication for months rather than days.

Any advice or guidance on whether tapering is necessary would be appreciated. I want to make sure I do this right.

Welcome @Sdoft

Can you please put in your drug signature first. Just go to the top of the Introductions and Updates page and you’ll see a thread asking you to start a topic about yourself. In the first paragraph there’s a link showing you how to do a signature. Thank you.

You haven’t been on the meds very long, so you may be able to go off them quicker. Dear @Altostrata could you please help. Sdoft has been on 25mg of sertraline for under a fortnight. How quickly would you recommend tapering off it? Thank you.

Welcome. @Sdoft

If it's been only a couple of weeks, you can simply stop. If this doesn't feel right to you, cut your dose in half for 4 days, then stop.
