HopeFlower
Hi everyone, good afternoon! Summary of my story. * Quetipine for 11 years - bipolar disorder. * Quetiapine dose reduction in 2022 - 100 mg - 50 mg - 25 mg - 12.5 mg - 6.75 mg - 1/8 tablet - zero. * 10 days after dose = zero - began to have physical and mental onset, panic attacks, aggression, nausea, headache etc etc etc * I looked for help from several psychiatrists who tried benzo, gabapentin, lamotrigine, katrom and everything made my situation worse. * After one month I decided to go back to taking 1/8 of a pill twice a day (March 2022) * In June 2023, I met a university professor who studies psychotropic withdrawal and he told me to stop taking quetiapine because my body would not miss such a small dose. * 12 days after dose = zero - my physical agitation was so extreme I thought I was going to die. * Decide to go back to taking 1/8 of a tablet twice a day. * However, it seems that this dose got too strong for my brain. My questions: 1. Should I reduce a dose? Or do I keep 1/8 of a pill twice a day? 2. Why does my agitation get worse after taking any other medicine? 3. Is my brain permanently damaged? 4. How can I help you all? TIA Hugs Link to comment

Moderator Emeritus manymoretodays Posted July 20, 2023 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted July 20, 2023 (edited) HopeFlower, Please put all of your drugs into your signature. Thank you. It's the portion that you'll see below others posts, different from what you gave at registration. The 10% taper recommendation is a harm reduction approach to going off psychiatric drugs. Why taper by 10% of my dosage? Tips for tapering off Seroquel(quetiapine) More on WD(withdrawal) and symptoms of and stabilization: Brain Remodelling What is withdrawal syndrome. Dr.Glenmullen’s withdrawal symptom list. The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization When we take medications, the CNS (central nervous system) responds by making changes over the months and years we take the drug(s). When the medication is discontinued, the CNS has to undo all the changes it made. The CNS likes stability. Rebuilding the neurotransmitter production and reactivating the receptor and transporter cells takes time -- during that rebuilding process symptoms occur. No, I don't think your brain is permanently damaged. Work on your signature. Thanks. Your taper may have been too fast and you may now be experiencing symptoms of WD. Tell us more.
