Maggs
I don't remember the dates of all my history, but will give it a try 1990 pregnancy and post natal depression. Put on Prothiadin. 1993. Second post natal depression,, etc antidepressants and progesterone. Left on antidepressants till menopause 2010. Paroxetine. Very stupidly drank quite a lot of (delicious) french wine whilst taking them, didn't realise the damage I was doing . Menopause HRT. Meds stopped working. Serious depression, anxiety etc. Was tried on various meds while taking diazapam. Tried Mirtazapine, Olanazapine Lithium, ECT, eventually put on Clomiprimine . Realised by myself that I was in tolerance to diazapam. Began a 2 year taper. Came off in March 2023. Now looking to get off Clomiprimine. Think my thyroid has been to blame all along. 2 Post partum depressions, which I now believe to be thyroid related landed me in antidepressant land. Many years on Prothiadine, seroxat, paroxetine which then stopped working in 2018. Diazapam, was tried on Mirtazapine, Olanzapine, Lithium, ECT, and finally removed from Paroxetine and given Clomiprimine which I still take. During the later years I was menopausal so for that I was initially given Noriday (mini pill and estrogen (2 pumps) but now take estrogen (one pump) and Urtrogeston. Link to comment

Maggs
I took two years to taper off diazapam . It was hard but compared to many I got away lightly, probably because of the Clomiprimine. I am really pleased to be off the diazapam. One down one to go... 2 Post partum depressions, which I now believe to be thyroid related landed me in antidepressant land. Many years on Prothiadine, seroxat, paroxetine which then stopped working in 2018. Maggs
Yes I had and continue to have physical and psychological symptoms. However I didn't get acute withdrawal when I came off the drug because I tapered out very slowly to nothing. Symptoms were anxiety, difficulty breathing, dizziness, cold intolerance, adrenal surges, fatigue, tinnitus, restlessness, RLS, rage, food sensitivities. I think I went through a period of hyperthyroidism, as everything was speeded up (low GABA). Psychological problems were and are intrusive thoughts, repetitive thoughts , memory loss, cog fog, depression I am now waiting for the neurological injury to heal. Baylissa Fredrick has been an absolute godsend in helping me. If anyone else is going through this they need to contact her. Her book Recovery and Renewal I think possibly saved me. She has a website and FB group. She changed my mind set , which is so important for getting through this as I'm sure you know. I read your story and am so sorry that you have had to go through what you did. You are doing so much good in what you do. Thank you. At the moment I am going through windows and waves, unable to work, drive, think clearly, remember much, but I have massive hope thanks to Baylissa, and I am so much better now than I was. I hope things continue to approve. 1 2 Post partum depressions, which I now believe to be thyroid related landed me in antidepressant land. Many years on Prothiadine, seroxat, paroxetine which then stopped working in 2018. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 25, 2023 Administrator Share Posted August 25, 2023 You're welcome. You'll want to be sure to be fully stabilized from coming off diazepam before tapering clomipramine. Do you have any residual symptoms from diazepam withdrawal? This is not medical advice. Maggs
Yes I still have residual symptoms, but I need to get off the Clomiprimine as it's affecting my thyroid, as did diazapam. So I have bought good quality l tryptophan and am going to try and use it to reduce my Clomiprimine (very slowly). They both act on Serotonin. Any problems and I will stop taking the tryptophan. My psychiatrist has now discharged me and has made it clear she isn't interested in helping me further. I do have an appointment with a new GP in September who was very understanding about my thyroid issues and tried to get an Endo to see me. I will ask her to change my script to smaller dose capsules so that I can taper. 2 Post partum depressions, which I now believe to be thyroid related landed me in antidepressant land. Many years on Prothiadine, seroxat, paroxetine which then stopped working in 2018. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 25, 2023 Administrator Share Posted August 25, 2023 What are your residual withdrawal symptoms from going off diazepam? We have not seem tryptophan to be helpful in expediting reduction of an antidepressant. This is not medical advice. Administrator Altostrata Posted August 26, 2023 Administrator Share Posted August 26, 2023 Positive mindset is important, but prudent tapering is crucial to avoid compounding existing withdrawal syndrome. Moderator Erimus Posted May 23 Moderator Share Posted May 23 (edited) If you are looking for support I would suggest reading the UK support thread: There did used to be a support group via Zoom which ran biweekly meetings. I think it was originally located in North Wales, but branched out via the web during covid. Send .@Nelly a message for more details about it.
