Gerryb Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 Hello everybody, I've been on 10mg of citalopram for 14 weeks now for constant anxiety and panic attacks. I want to start tapering off this week and am trying neurofeedback to deal with the completely dysregulated nervous system I've had since I was a child. Hoping to get some guidance as I do my 10% gradual reduction. I hate feeling spaced out and the insomnia hasn't been a barrel of laughs either.... July 2023 10mg Citalopram Hoping to taper from now Oct 2023 8.5mg 26th Nov 2023 7.7mg had 2 panic attacks day 2 and day 4 on this so far, will give it another week or two to hopefully stabilise. 1st Dec 2024 2.1mg
Gerryb Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 A bit more....I really don't want the constant panic to return but the flatness and numbness I feel now isn't bearable either. I feel like someone else. Has anyone got any advice please on whether tapering has to take a couple of years even after only being on meds for 14 weeks? I'd hate to damage my brain more by being on these things for longer than I need, but don't want to cause havoc by going too fast either. Any advice greatly appreciated! Moderator Emeritus Onmyway Posted October 28, 2023 Moderator Emeritus Posted October 28, 2023 @Gerryb, we find that 1 month is about the time that people need to take the drug to get withdrawal from it. So we would advise the 10% taper. Chances are that the numbness will diminish as you taper slowly. OMW "Nothing so small as a moment is insurmountable, and moments are all that we have. Gerryb Posted October 28, 2023 Author Posted October 28, 2023 Thank you, that's very helpful. I've made up my liquid tonight so that I can try 9mg tomorrow and see what a month at that dose looks like.
