Cecilia77 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Hello, This site was included in an article about the dangers of antidepressants that was in Dr. Mercola's daily email. I am not or have never been on any antidepressants myself, but have been on a mission to research and find the best way and support for my son to wean off of Remeron. The reason he was put on this med was for chronic insomnia. Prior to being prescribed Remeron he had been taking Nyquil every night for a very long time. Over the years he has tried many natural vitamins and supplements with none of them helping. For about six months the doctor had him on both Remeron and Vistaril at the same time, but for the past month he has just been on Remeron 45mg. Thank you very much for accepting my registration. Moderator LotusRising Posted January 6 Moderator Posted January 6 Hi @Cecilia77 Welcome to SA, We are a peer-run volunteer site dedicated to a harm reduction tapering approach in an effort to minimize withdrawal symptoms. We suggest tapering by no more than 10% of your most recent dose each month. See Why taper by 10%. How long has your son been taking remeron? Has he expressed interest in coming off remeron? These two links will help you to understand withdrawal syndrome: What is Withdrawal Syndrome? Video on Recovery from Psych Drugs When we take medication, the CNS responds by making changes over the months and years we take the drug(s). When the medication is discontinued, the CNS must then undo all the changes that were made. As the changes are undone, symptoms may occur. You can expect that they will follow The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization and since the CNS likes stability, we suggest to Keep it simple, slow and stable. Please post any updates or questions right here on this thread and we will do our best to address them Please don't hesitate to reach out! 2003-2009 on and off various SSRI's for short periods 2010-2011 Ativan 2013-2021 ativan 1-1.5mg 10-12x/month 2016 - Effexor 75mg, short-term 2021 Mar -Jun Buspar ADR at high dose, tapered 3 months Oct 22/21 - Direct switch ativan to clonazepam (don't do this) Tapered clonaz Oct/21 - Apr/23 - 0mg!
