AlphioWolf Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Hi, I am new here, I was put on klonopin for 6 months then I had to taper because I developed a tolerance to it. Accidentally did a rapid taper off of it with out realizing how fast and dangerous the taper was. I am suffering from a lot of systems from getting off of klonopin. I am 4 months out since my last dose of klonopin. As soon as I got off of my doc put me on Amitriptyline for sleep. I don’t why I excepted Amitriptyline I wasn’t thinking straight at the time. I just need to now if it is ok to be on a sedative like Amitriptyline while trying to heal your CNS from a benzo like klonopin? I know that Amitriptyline has a long list of symptoms just like klonopin. And I am getting scared that the symptoms from Amitriptyline might be intertwining with the withdrawal symptoms from klonopin. Took klonopin for 6 months then I had to get off of it because I developed a tolerance to it. Did a rapid taper by the time I got down to 0.25 I got off of it. My doctor then ask if I was having trouble sleeping I said yes. My doc then prescribed me with 25mg of Amitriptyline. I know this is a small dose. But, have to be very careful coming off of this because my nerves system was butchered by klonopin. I have been taking Amitriptyline 3 months now. I am whating till the systems I am dealing from klonopin subsides before I start to taper Amitriptyline.
Moderator LotusRising Posted January 9 Moderator Posted January 9 Hi @AlphioWolf Welcome to SA, We are a peer-run volunteer site dedicated to a harm reduction tapering approach in an effort to minimize withdrawal symptoms. You have likely read that we suggest tapering by no more than 10% of your most recent dose each month. See Why taper by 10%. This is your introduction thread - please post any updates or questions related to your specific situation right here in your thread. It's helpful to keep everything related to your tapering journey in one spot. Could you help us out by adding a signature, which will ensure your drug history appears at the bottom of every post, making it more efficient for those trying to assist. How to Create a Signature These two links will help you to understand withdrawal syndrome: What is Withdrawal Syndrome? Video on Recovery from Psych Drugs If you aren't aware, Amitriptyline is an antidepressant, not a sedative, but I believe it is used off-label for sleep issues. I can't say for sure if it will affect your healing from klonopin, but we do not recommend additional drugs to handle WD symptoms since they too will require a taper. Our recommendations are to Keep it simple, slow and stable. As you've already pointed out, there can be overlap between WD symptoms and those of the new drug, making it difficult to know what is causing what. AlphioWolf Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 I have been on Amitriptyline for 4 months now. I read some where that Amtrip increase serotonin in brain. The only problem with this is my gaba has been down regulated by k. And I also read somewhere gaba acts on dopamine and serotonin as well. I should have known this before I started taking the stupid drug. I already know that I am going to go through hell even while tapering slowly off of this drug. AlphioWolf Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 The reason why I am asking is because I was put on an antidepressant that re- uptakes serotonin by my doctor while going through Benzo withdrawal. And I just read something on Benzo buddies that said that Benzo use will deplete your serotonin over time. The systems that I am currently dealing with are questionable? The systems that I am currently dealing with are questionable? I'm not sure anyone knows for sure what happens when we add or take away drugs. Our brain always adapts to the drug and tries to find a workaround to bring the body back to homeostasis. In doing this, other neurotransmitters may be affected. AlphioWolf Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 Hi, I just need to know what is the best way to get off of Amitriptyline. I am 10 months out from taking my last dose k and have been taking Amtrip for 10 months as well. I would like to get off of this pills because I think they are causing a lot of side effects. And The pills are too small to cut. Is there any way I can get bigger pills so I can cut them? I would also like to add that my doc put me on Amtrip for sleep. But I read up that also helps as a pain med. So I started taking it for my pelvic pain. But, I don’t know if it worked or maybe it was just placebo. If the pain does come back what is best AD for pelvic pain that has less side effects? Took klonopin for 6 months then I had to get off of it because I developed a tolerance to it.
