ninaumi Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 (edited) Hello! I just got out of a mental institution yesterday. I was there for two weeks, and I think they started giving me that at least a few days since the admission. So, it's not too long, I guess, but... I am noticing akathisia now, and as the reason I got hospitalized are actually physical issues being already unberable, should I quit cold turkey, or what else I can do? Can you suggest the resources? I am really weak, and sick with other stuff now, not just my multiple neglected chronic conditions. Thanks in advance! It's 3 mg dose. Moderator LotusRising Posted January 11, 2024 Moderator Posted January 11, 2024 (edited) Welcome to SA, We are a peer-run volunteer site dedicated to a harm reduction tapering approach in an effort to minimize withdrawal symptoms. We suggest tapering by no more than 10% of your most recent dose each month. See Why taper by 10%. However, since you've only been on it for 2 weeks, the risk of being physically dependent will be much less, so you may be able to do a quick taper. This is your introduction page where you post, ask questions and meet other members. We ask that you only have one introduction page so we can keep all your information in one place. Could you help us out by adding a signature, which will ensure your drug history appears at the bottom of every post, making it more efficient for those trying to assist. How to Create a Signature I am not familiar with cariprazine, but you could search for other members tapering this drug by doing a site search. These two links will help you to understand withdrawal syndrome: What is Withdrawal Syndrome? Video on Recovery from Psych Drugs When we take medication, the CNS responds by making changes over the months and years we take the drug(s). When the medication is discontinued, the CNS must then undo all the changes that were made. As the changes are undone, symptoms may occur. You can expect that they will follow The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization and since the CNS likes stability, we suggest to Keep it simple, slow and stable. Please reach out to us with any questions you may have after reading the links. ninaumi Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 Thank you. I am unable to do much, I'm disabled in many ways. But, I informed myself over the years about most of the topics, but I'll read The rule of 3KIS. I also have a complicated history of being on psychiatric drugs, they changed them a lot, and I can't remember it all. I probably have somatic symptoms from that too, and got insulin resistance for life from my first drug I needed to take every day which was Risperdal. What do you mean by "quick taper"? I did quit cold turkey Duloxetine and Abilify 2 years ago, just because I decided I will be ready for everything, and it was a special experience, and I survived. Now, as my physical symptoms pilled on, I became too loud for the neighbors, so I admitted myself there, so that they don't call the police, since I felt too sick, and fought badly with my mom due to that. But, the hospitalization was life changing, as I decided I will do it differently this time, as it has been my worst fear in life, for that to happen again. Now, I don't want to take 2 drugs I was on since I just took it for a couple of days, but I'll ask for the help around diazepam elsewhere later. Now, this one new drug is really something... I hope people are realizing what psychiatry is finally, since cariprazine feels like Abilify on steroids.
ninaumi Posted January 12, 2024 Author Posted January 12, 2024 I'd still like the advice about tapering diazepam, which I've been taking over 2 weeks now. 10mg dose. Thank you!
