kiterun: Olanzapine help

Recommended Posts

Hi ,I am desperately searching for help & would like to put myself out of my misery but don't have the guts to do it  .

I am currently on 7.5mg olanzapine, feeling complete avolition & sedation  after adverse reaction to 16 days on  Sertaline 9 weeks ago. I was on anti-sickness medication before this from the hospital for a hiatus hernia  . I was sectioned and placed on Olanzapine after suffering bad withdrawals to Sertaline and the hospital disputing it was withdrawals & saying it was pychosis. I am struggling to go on , no energy , intense body pain & weight loss, no REM  sleep .  I have 2 children to look after who also have support issues . I'm not sure whether to decrease the Olanzapine or whether it's masking the body pain .I am giving up hope , only managed to do a few things each day like 2x load of washing , shower & depend upon my parents who are elderly .Is there any hope

Hi kiterun,

Welcome to SA. Thank you for summarizing your drug history in your signature.

You can find information regarding tapering Olanzapine at Tips for tapering off Zyprexa (olanzapine).

Olanzapine is known to be a sedating medication so it is not out of the ordinary to feel no energy while taking it. Saying that, you did just drop from 10mg -> 7.5mg which is a 25% drop and much higher than the 10% drop of the previous dose per month that we recommend. You can read more about why we recommend this method at Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

Have your symptoms gotten worse or improved since you dropped down to 7.5mg?

Thanks,

Firefly

Thank you for replying Firefly .

They dropped the Olanzapine on my request in hospital,I'd only been on it a week & didn't want to be on such a high dose. They don't want me to reduce it any further currently but I'm keen too . It's been mixed response  ,on reducing some of the shakiness has gone but I  have less energy & constant  front head pain . I'm also worried that I'm due to get increased Sertaline withdrawal from now

Ive  had the lack of energy  since stopping the prochlorperazine, it increased following stopping the Sertaline ( I had to stop this due to serotonin syndrome )

I'm unsure what to do & have no support to help.Im considering cutting the Olanzapine to 5mg then trying to do shave small  cuts ?

Also considering whether to start the Sertaline again ,will this make the complete inertia go away ? I'm not functioning at all , just laying in bed , worried about kindling but hopeful it may help ?

This is a larger cut than we recommend. Again, you can read why we suggest dropping no more than 10% per month of the previous dose at Why taper by 10% of my dosage?

If you decide to re-instate, would recommend a very small amount to see how you react. We have information about reinstatement at About reinstating and stabilizing to reduce withdrawal symptoms

I've just actually 'licked' a small piece of Sertraline to trial if it would help ease withdrawals ( I was desperate ) ,I have read that Ann Blake Tracey  recommended this when tapering & was worried about kindling . This was a couple of  hours ago and I seem to feel calmer &  managed to do a couple of things when I have been completely bed bound & not functioning at all  , if this has done this after 10k Weeks off  it then this is such a powerful drug !!! But now do I do this again tomorrow with a bit more like 1mg ? I'm scared to risk getting more symptoms but desperate & need to get better to look after my children .Again this might not be the Sertaline ,it might be a window after being in a deep horrific wave or might be the Serotonin synapse giving me a glimpse of positive at 10 weeks off before dipping at 12 weeks !! Or might be a high after lack of sleep last night !!

If you were diagnosed with serotonin syndrome, you would not want to re-instate the Sertraline as it could cause it to reoccur.

Thank you ,will take no more .I'm in a bad way and can't seem to find any other survivors as badly affected here or on the Facebook sites . Without the serotonin syndrome it wouldn't be as bad , I'm resigning myself to a remaining lifetime of misery with no way out . Do you know once you lose ability to get REM sleep how long it takes to die ?

There are many people here who have been badly affected by psychiatric medication and withdrawals and who have survived. You may find some encouragement by reading our Success threads.

It is important during these difficulties to try and take care of yourself. You may want to look into Non-drug techniques to cope with emotional symptoms as well as Dealing With Emotional Spirals.

While insomnia can be brutal, you will not die from inadequate sleep.

It sounds like you could use some in-person care. Do you have a therapist that you can contact?
