NES73: Paxil withdrawal

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried psychedelic therapy in order to reset their brain after discontinuation of antidepressants?  Currently, ketamine therapy under medical care is approved in the US, and psilocybin (magic mushroom) therapy under controlled dosage with medical administration is legal in Oregon.  It is being found that psychedelic therapies (medical rather than recreational) can reset the brain in minutes to hours what would normally take years in cases of PTSD, severe anxiety, and in many cases of clinical depression.  Btw, I'm starting to taper Paroxetine (Paxil) myself.  I had no idea how complicated and dangerous discontinuation of Paxil is.  I wish I would have known before I started taking it.  Also, now I know why I'm so lethargic and sleep much more than I used to.  I just found out about such symptoms from reading this site.  So much for informed consent.

Hello, and welcome to SA.  We are a volunteer-run community of people who have been or are getting off of psychiatric drugs.  We at this site do not suggest using any type of mind altering drugs to deal with discontinuation of antidepressants, or any other psychiatric drugs.  Our approach is a very slow harm reduction taper, combined with natural self care and learning non drug coping skills to deal with withdrawal symptoms.

Can you please give us specific information in your signature about your drug history for all drugs and supplements you are on and have been on, especially for the past 18-24 months?  Please only give us drug names, dosages, and dates, as best you can remember, in a list format.  Please read the link below for instructions.

How to List Your Drug History in Your Signature

Here is some important information about how these drugs actually work.  This explains why we get symptoms from going off of these medications, and why it's so important to taper slowly and carefully, and be very cautious about changing our doses:

Tapering is best done extremely slowly, and we generally taper by 10% of the current dose no more than once every 4 weeks, so that the reduction becomes exponentially smaller.

Another option is micro tapering, which is the most gentle on the nervous system.

How is your taper going so far?  Please do get your drug signature completed, so we can help you in specific ways.  Thank you.

Please do not private message me.  Only tag me for urgent questions about tapering and reinstating - thank you.
