EllaBella tapering parnate

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm glad I found you.

I've been chaotically tapering off for a few years, but this time I'm trying the 10% method, to wean off 10mg parnate.

Something about this time feels different, like there's space to grieve the way loss of agency that the medical system created - I'm realizing how little informed consent there was when I went on the medication, despite everyone having good intentions.

Will come back and add more words soon, and a signature and stuff.

Bit jittery and need to go move my body now.

  • 2009 - 2011 fluoxetine
  • 2011-2012 citalopram
  • 2012 - 2013 venelfaxine, then noretreptalyine, then sertraline. At some point bupropian too.
  • 2013 parnate 40 mg
  • 2014 parnate + lithium 400mg, nozinann
  • 2014 - 2016 off nozinann, started Seroquel, temazepam
  • 2016- 2018 taperd off temazepam and Seroquel
  • 2019 started parnate taper.
  • 2023 down to parnate 10mg, lithium 100mg
  • June 2024- tapering 10mg parnate. 100mg lithium

Slow and steady is the way to go. Why taper by 10% of my dosage? The reductions should get smaller and smaller each month, for example: 10mg, 9mg, 8.1mg, 7.3mg etc. Importantly, if you develop unpleasant side effects from tapering, halt the taper, give yourself time to settle, and once stable, taper more slowly and by smaller amounts moving forward.

I find it helpful to keep this WD symptom checklist on hand: Daily Checklist of Antidepressant Withdrawal Symptoms (PDF)

Yeah, let's hope that starts to change.

These are some helpful links:

Melatonin for sleep

We don't suggest many supplements, but two that many of us find helpful are magnesium and omega-3 fish oil. Here are the links for info about those. Add one at a time and start with a low dose to see how it affects you.

Magnesium

Omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil)

Avoid alcohol.

Don't change the manufacturer of your AD.

  • 1 month later...

Reduced 10% over a month , but struggled with agitation and daytime sleepiness. Gave myself until I felt stable, and trying the brass monkey slide now.

I'm only at the start of week two, but so far the dysregulation is minor and very manageable. (Fingers crossed)
