hxdaro: I need to get off Zoloft and Trintellix and don't know what to do.

Recommended Posts

I've been on 50-75mg Zoloft for one year. It makes me lethargic and zombie-like, and makes me want to do nothing but sleep. It does not help my anxiety or depression at all. I absolutely HATE being on it.

My provider suggested I try Trintellix and taper off the Zoloft. She didn't give me any instructions on how to do it. I went from 75mg to 0mg in the span of 10 days. At the same time I started taking Trintellix. The withdrawals from the Zoloft were bad. Headaches and brain zaps and after two weeks of it I gave up and started taking it again. I was on Trintellix for six weeks at 5mg, and noticed no help to my depression or energy. It did however make me nauseous. I started to see these pills as poison more and more, and one week ago I stopped taking the Trintellix cold turkey (my provider said I could safely stop CT because it has such a long half life, I don't know if that's true.) At the same time I have started to try taking 25mg of Zoloft instead of my usual 50/75mg dose. Being on 25mg feels so much better.

Since stopping the Trintellix last week, I am having TERRIBLE INSOMNIA. I can't sleep. Melatonin isn't helping either.

I also suspect that going down to 25mg of Zoloft I'm about to start feeling withdrawal symptoms from that as well.

I'm just so tired. I have no support system. I want to get off these pills so bad because they make me feel so bad.

I really don't want to taper off it. I don't know if it's going to help my case. It seems even if people taper they still get withdrawals. It seems like just delaying the inevitable. Why can't I just go cold turkey and just power through the withdrawals for the next month or two? Everyone says it is dangerous but it seems anecdotal. I JUST WANT TO BE OFF THIS POISON. I'm going to get withdrawals if I taper or not. And I refuse to spend any more time on this poison.

08/2023 - Started 50MG Zoloft

You are currently tapering too fast, which is why you are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. If you wish to reduce these symptoms and enjoy an easier ride off medication I suggest you follow the 10%/month guidelines we recommend here.

I don't want to adhere to the 10% taper myself due to the fact Zoloft makes me feel very poorly as it is.

I was thinking 3 weeks at 37.5, 3 weeks at 25, 4 weeks at 12.5, 4 weeks at 6.5?

I don't expect I'll get zero withdrawal symptoms, but my goal is not to avoid them completely.

As you wish.

The brain does not care for how the drug makes you feel, it is still dependent on it.
