Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 3 Moderator Share Posted August 3 Sorry for the slow reply @sandman79- I've been unwell myself, and having some difficulty keeping up with life! I agree with Sebas- you certainly don't have to take something for a single day of constipation, and as is usually the case with withdrawal, less is more. Your body is designed to heal, and will do so with a healthy, balanced diet. Supplements, unless you are severely deficient in something, are generally not necessary. This is particularly true of the gut- serotonin is produced in the gut, so you are bound to have days where your bowels feel off. I think allowing the gut to heal as naturally as possible, with a good healthy diet, is always your best bet. Just give it time, and it will pass! My diet is a strict plant based whole foods diet. This is my choice, and has helped tremendously with my long covid symptoms, which bear an eerie resemblance to withdrawal symptoms! I do believe that for most people, the old advice to eat real food, not too much, and mostly plants is decent advice. Though in withdrawal, being aware of the possibility of histamine sensitivity is always wise, and adjusting your diet accordingly is necessary. 1995- 2007- On and off multiple antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin, escitalopram). sandman79
I have been reading on here about cold turkey like I was told to do.. and I am kind of worried about what can happen to me after listening to my dr. I mean I have got better in some ways. No brain zaps headaches are not around much . I can sleep a little better but don't know for how long. I still get nauseous and brain fog and appetite isn't great. Stomach turns and turns some days sometimes I don't go to the bathroom much. Eating a little more when I am not to nauseous. Lost 25 pounds and will probably lose more.. I just don't want to keep losing weight like this. Hopefully it will get better have few good days then get hit with feeling terrible. I am following ur recommendations and just want an end to come from this.. but I feel this could take a very long time or not who knows. I feel that I should have tapered but now it's been 7 weeks and should just wait it out it will resolve . When I was on them had more terrible days then good. Now I feel lost somedays. Are the odds against me since I was told to stop cold turkey? I didn't ever feel like this before these meds . I didn't feel nauseous ever. I do have some ibs d but it was fine compared to this. I could eat I went to the bathroom no brain fog. Now everything is backwards. What am I supposed to do here April 7 2024 started Prozac 10 mg May 11 2024 last day of prozac 10 mg. Just woories me after reading some other peoples stories I stopped three meds at once cold turkey back in 2007, and I recovered. It is going to take time to recover. Seven weeks is very early days. I know it's hard to be patient, but it's a skill you will absolutely need to practice! Thinking that you will never heal because you stopped cold turkey is catastrophic thinking, and is absolutely not helpful. No one can tell you how long recovery will take. We are all different. All we can say is that if you take good care of yourself, you will heal. That's what our bodies are designed to do- there's no changing that. 1 hour ago, sandman79 said: II mean I have got better in some ways. No brain zaps headaches are not around much . I can sleep a little better but don't know for how long. These are good improvements. Celebrate that!!! Approach your symptoms from one day to the next with curiosity and compassion. I frequently look at my bad days, and simply say, 'isn't that interesting! Let's look back at the last couple of days and see if there's anything I did that may have made things worse for myself.' I don't beat myself up, and I use every bad day as a learning opportunity. This approach helps keep you calm and grounded while on this journey. Of course, days of frustration and sadness are a normal part of the journey too. It's important to accept those emotions- allow them to come, feel them deeply, and they will lift in their own time. Moderator brassmonkey Posted August 4 Moderator Share Posted August 4 Healing is happening all the time, even if it doesn't feel like it. Going CT is the roughest way to come off of ADs, but recovery will happen. 20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013. Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks. The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better. Final Dose 0.016mg. Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017 "It's also important not to become angry, no matter how difficult life is, because you can loose all hope if you can't laugh at yourself and at life in general." Is that normal Yup- this is a withdrawal symptom. This tends to happen to me when it's quiet. My mind just goes and goes and goes. This is why I put my headphones in and listen to yoga Nidra at night to help me with sleep. If I'm focusing on what the guide is saying, I can typically avoid those thought spirals. Yes, my mind will wander at times, but I am always able to bring it back. 1995- 2007- On and off multiple antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin, escitalopram). Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 5 Moderator Share Posted August 5 I would certainly prefer Senna to the chemical laxatives. Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 6 Moderator Share Posted August 6 Low mood is most definitely a withdrawal symptom, and it is exacerbated by poor sleep. I'm right there with you right now! With respect to reinstatement, I think it just depends on the severity of your symptoms. I'm a tough old broad lol, and I can take a LOT. It has always been my tendency to tough things out until I physically can't anymore, so I may not be the best person to ask lol! Given your history with reacting adversely, I don't think I would take the chance, unless your symptoms are so bad that you just can't function. If things are that bad, it might be worth a shot. Given your timeline, you could choose either drug- whichever one you tolerated better. I can't see any significant advantages of one over the other- some say that Prozac's long half life makes it a bit easier to taper, but that's certainly not the case for everyone. Lexapro is the only one I've ever attempted a proper hyperbolic taper with, and it's still a struggle for me, but I have a 30 year history of psychiatric meds behind me- nothing is going to be easy for someone in my position. Your history is shorter, so perhaps you would have an easier time stabilizing on a low dose, and doing a proper taper from there. If you choose not to reinstate, the best thing you can do is make it your full time job to practice using non-drug coping mechanisms, like mindfulness and meditation, listening to calming music and nature sounds, practicing radical acceptance. I have definitely found this journey is much easier when I just shrug my shoulders on the bad days, and roll with the punches, rather than obsessing about how terrible it is. The mind has tremendous power to make your reality better or worse. An example of this- just last night, I did something really stupid that flared up the headache that I've had for the last two years to the point that it was unbearable. I was almost frantic for a moment, almost asking my husband to take me to the ER. Instead, I say back with my eyes closed, and breathed deeply. I focussed on the wind in my hair (we were in the car at the time), the sound of the tires on the road, the feeling of the car seat behind my back, the warmth of the air, etc. None of this cured my pain at all, but bringing my nervous system under control, and reducing that fight or flight instinct brought the whole situation under a bit more control. I made sure that my brain didn't make things worse! I'm not saying this is easy- I've had a LOT of practice, as I've been very unwell for two years with long covid- something that medicine has no idea how to treat. I've had no choice but to accept that this is the way things are, and find my own way to symptom relief. It has been a lot of trial and error, and a lot of practicing the things that work to make them more automatic. I really believe anyone can learn to do this, if you dedicate yourself to it. And I do believe you could get through the healing process without reinstating by using these techniques, if you put you mind to it. But you know yourself best, and we're here to support you either way. ❤️ 1995- 2007- On and off multiple antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin, escitalopram). Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 6 Moderator Share Posted August 6 Oh- and the Senna and prune juice- given that you had diarrhea, I might choose one or the other next time. Taking everything slow while dealing with withdrawal issues is always wise.
