Barry2954
I have been wondering whether the psychiatric medications could be causing a deficiency of palmitoylethanolamide. Our bodies produce it from things like eggs, peanut oil, and soy lecithin. It has been tested for helping with sleep and a range of other issues. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34522787/ While it is obviously preferable to enable our bodies to produce it you can find it in supplement form online. Prior medications; sertraline 50mg April sertraline 100mg May to July 2014 (ceased medication immediately upon occurrence of first thunderclap headache) lorazepam April 2014 and November 2014 to January 2015 (each time suppressing symptoms of illness until two weeks after cessation of medication) seroquel November 2014 to January 2015 50mg prior to being raised to 100mg for one day (medication ceased immediately upon occurrence of convulsive seizure) warfarin 1990 to June 2023 Was instructed to 'cease doing anything healthy' by treating psychiatrist in June 2014 (the psychiatrist stating that belief in disease is the cause of disease and that dietary supplementation encourages people to think there's something wrong with us) so only commenced taking supplements again in June 2023 upon contrary instructions from GP. Current medications; eliquis since June 2023 Supplements; multivitamin/mineral, zinc, magnesium, calcium/magnesium, vitamin c, vitamin d, spirulina, resveratrol, iron. Link to comment

Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 4 Moderator Share Posted August 4 It sounds like you are getting yourself worked up into a frenzy. You need to breathe- catastrophic thinking is only going to make you feel worse. You aren't going to die. And beating yourself up for past decisions is also not helpful, and will make you feel worse. What's done is done- all you can do is move forward from here. As I previously stated, we do not recommend taking other psychiatric medications to deal with the effects of psychiatric medications. First of all, when the nervous system is destabilized, the actions of other medications are unpredictable, and may make you worse. Secondly, you would only be creating another drug dependance on a drug that you will have to taper down the road, thereby prolonging your tapering and withdrawal experience. Benzos are pretty evil to stop- I would certainly avoid those at all costs. You have been on mirtazepine long enough now for your body to have adapted to its presence. You need to be aware that you can't just switch from one drug to another at this point without risking dealing with further withdrawal from the mirtazepine. If you wish to consider a prozac bridge, you need to be fully informed about the advantages and disadvantages of this. Read here for more information: https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/forums/topic/19373-the-prozac-switch-or-bridging-with-fluoxetine/#comment-13616 I would almost rather see you try to reinstate a small dose of the escitalopram than bridge to prozac, since it was working for you in March. But again, you will deal with further withdrawal from the mirtazepine at this point, which could make things worse for you. It's very hard to know how you would react at this point to making any changes. Only you can weigh the risks and benefits, and decide what is best for you. If non-drug coping mechanisms are not working for you, It just means you need to give them more time. They are not magic cures- you need to commit to practicing them over and over and over until they start to click. I know how hard it is when you are feeling so desperate, but even continuing to TRY will help to start rewiring your brain. I would strongly recommend that you look up Angie Peacock on Youtube. She is a polydrug survivor. She was on 18 medications at once at one point in her journey. She has been drug free for many years now, and interviews other survivors on YouTube. Her interviews always end with messages of hope, which are truly inspiring. She and many of those she interviews have absolutely brutal insomnia, just like you do. They all healed- every single person she has interviewed healed. The body and brain will heal, whether you believe it or not. 1995- 2007- On and off multiple antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin, escitalopram). Memory poor- can’t remember dates. Moderator Catwoman73 Posted August 4 Moderator Share Posted August 4 Please refrain from tagging Alto- she is no longer actively involved in the management of this site. I really think you just need to stabilize right where you are, but of course, your choices are your own to make. Only you can decide what dose of escitalopram you would try- I would not go higher than 0.5mg at first, for fear of an adverse reaction if you decide to go that route. Be advised that taking mirtazepine and escitalopram together puts you at risk of developing serotonin syndrome, so this is a risky move that would have to be carefully monitored medically. Put both meds into a drug interaction checker to see the risks of serotonin syndrome. The reason that your mirtazepine is not allowing you to sleep at lower doses is that you are destabilized from tapering it far too quickly. You have essentially cut your dose in half since starting it four months ago- this is way too fast, as you know. Time and stability should help this. As for Angie- yes, she tapered, but not properly from many of her drugs. Like most of us, for a long time, she followed her doctors' advice and tapered far too quickly, stopping from doses that are equivalent to cold turkey stops. And she recovered. You will too. 2 1995- 2007- On and off multiple antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Wellbutrin, escitalopram). Memory poor- can’t remember dates. I thought then updosing could be a way to reduce wd Symptoms... You can certainly try to updose if you like, but you need to go VERY SLOW. Increase by only 0.1mg, and hold for at least a week- preferably longer. Moving this slowly will help prevent adverse reactions. This thread can give you an idea of the length of time to stabilize after an updose. You will stabilize if you hold where you are as well, without the risk of an adverse reaction. Mentor Catina7 Posted August 4 Mentor Share Posted August 4 Hi @cfgwb, I'm so sorry you're feeling so desperate due to lack of sleep. I know at some point Altostrata completely lost the ability to sleep (as have many others on this forum), but it slowly returned after some time. Focus on what you CAN control, which is trying to reign in your fear and anxiety and not letting them get the best of you. Even if we lay there quietly during the night without having a deep "sleep," we're still giving our body and brain rest. I'm sure that at certain times you're at least getting a little bit of sleep here and there, although you may not realize it. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing at all because we want something to "fix" our situation, whether that be another drug, supplement, etc. Please know that your sleep WILL return once you stabilize a bit more. You're not permanently damaged or have made too many mistakes. You're going to be okay, please believe me. Take a deep breath. We're here for you. 1 Disclaimer: This is not professional medical advice but is based on personal experience only. 1994 - 2017: Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Seroquel, Buspar, Lorazepam, Xanax, Ambien 2005-present: Trazodone 50 mg 2017: Effexor XR 37.5 >> 75 mg 2020 (March): Began 10% monthly taper of Effexor XR (got down to 12 mg) 2021 (September): Completely crashed.
