Redacted: Prozac 10 Mg 12 months in and still have issues

Hi, hopefully anyone can help me figure out what’s happening here. I started Prozac last year in 2023. I took just for a few months 5-6 or maybe even less but nowhere near a year; I ended up stopping cold turkey because I would wake up and see my hand trailing. It was very off-putting, and when I bought up this issue to my psychiatrist, he really didn’t care and just put me off, so I took it upon myself to just put it down. I didn’t experience withdrawals until a month went by, and my skin started breaking out. I never had pimples in my life, and then I got eye floaters, which lead VSS and static in my vision. I’m well into the year 2024, and I’m still having symptoms. Odd sensation in my head,, vss and after images. It completely changed me. I miss who I was. I wasn’t even depressed I was just anxious. I didn’t know the dangers of this medication, and I’m hoping someone can let me know what’s going on or if it gets better. I’ve been suffering nonstop for months now. Vision changes, skin changes, anxious, suicidal, and it’s so weird I was never this way ever !!!! I was just a little anxious, and they decided this was the best thing to help me get through this anxiety, but I fear the psychiatrist ***** my life up. Not to add, I fainted for the first time. It’s almost like my symptoms are progressing, but I can’t understand why since I’ve been off of the meds for a while. Did it do something to my brain? Before, I used to smoke weed, and now, whenever I smoke weed, I faint. It’s all odd, but I’m 110% sure it’s linked to Prozac. Is my brain missing it, or was the Prozac a little too much for my brain? Someone plz, help me understand. All the doctors are gaslighting me. I even got a hormone panel, thinking I had a hormone imbalance, but nothing! All of these issues started when I got on it and then quit it. More symptoms keep presenting themselves even 13 months after discontinuation. Am I getting better or worse? My pimples have gone away, not completely, but damn near almost there, and now I'm at the stage where I don't have any sexual desires, or I feel almost numb. Please, anyone help me and tell me I'll be alright. I was smoking weed heavily before prozac and even after but quit after I fainted.

A few questions -

  1. When did you stop taking the Prozac?
  2. What are your current symptoms?

Are you having periods of time since stopping the Prozac where you have felt better or an easing in symptoms?

Thanks,

What are your current symptoms?

Have you been experiencing the The Windows and Waves Pattern of Stabilization?

the first 2 months i was fine, Then i started crying hysterically out of nowhere, i had alot of acne but it went away with time. Then i started getting head sensations and fainted and then was better. I got visual snow symptoms. and now im at the point where i feel numb and emotionless and no sexual desire but thats a new symptom. All the other symptoms went away, besides the vss. Im scared i might have pssd but im 9 months off of prozac and its a new symptom. Im scared it's gonna stay but then again it could just be a withdrawl symptom that goes away. Im just unsure why im still having new symptoms present itself 9 months into discontinuation of my prozac 10 mg. I do have days where i feel ok and better but then i feel horrible again and its been like this for the 9 months i've been off it.

Symptoms can vary at different times of withdrawals and recovery.

We have a thread on PSSD at PSSD Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction. We recognize that this is a worrying symptom and have links to other resources on the matter.

Recovery timelines are different for everyone so it is not uncommon to still be experiencing waves and windows at 9 months after going cold turkey.

Sadly common behavior from psychiatrists, they don't seem to know any better.

It's very common for withdrawal symptoms to only kick in after a few months off the drug.

First thing to know is that although this might feel permanent in the moment, it truly is not, in due time and with the proper information you will be able to make the right decisions that will aid you and direct you towards healing.

Doctors will always call it relapse when in fact it is withdrawal symptoms from the drugs they gave you.

It would be very hard for them to take responsability for what is going on and forcing that onto them is also useless.

Changing doses and drugs often is like playing ping pong with your brain - your body seeks stability and not this constant rollercoaster, it only intensifies the symptoms.

It is possible that reinstatement of a small dose of prozac could bring you relief after stabilizing on it, although after 9 months off you might find better methods to cope until fully healed and drug free.

- Escitalopram 10mg from ages 15 - 21

- Severe crash after 4 month taper to 0

- Reinstated, stabilized, slowly tapering.

That's so helpful to hear. I doubt I'd reinstate a smaller dose because it's been 9 months. I'd rather ride it out. Do you know if symptoms are normal to keep presenting themselves 9 months later? After all, I was on it for 8 months and when i first got off of it i didnt expereince anything until 2 months afterwards. All the other symptoms I've experienced played their role and then disappeared. But now I'm dealing with some emotional numbness & lack of sexual desire, and it's fairly new to me it's a very uncomfortable feeling . Will this also pass?
