yahh Posted January 9 Posted January 9 (edited) Took prozac 10mg for 6 days, felt bad and decided to stop. Was slowly returning to myself over the next 2.5 days when I suddenly felt a surge of anxiety which was unusual to me, I assumed it to be withdrawal and after 2 hours of this feeling not going away I decided to "taper" by taking another smaller dose of a little less than 5mg thinking it would be another small bump but ill get less withdrawals after it. Afterwards I felt worse than I've ever felt on the pill for a day but assumed it would start wearing off like the first time I stopped. Its been five days and Its only gotten weirder and worse, worst days of my life by far. Why/ what is happening to me and what should I do? With a better timeline established, can try to determine if you are experiencing withdrawals or an adverse reaction. LostInCanada Posted January 9 Posted January 9 @yahh hi and welcome to SA. It sounds like you are having a bad reaction to prozac. Some people never do well on these drugs right from the beginning. Prozac has a very long half life and it also metabolizes into norfluoxetine which has an even longer half life. Up to 15 days, which means the last pill you took can take up to 3 months to get out of your blood stream. During that time it can be affecting you and changing receptors. So even though you have stopped taking it you are still being affected by it. Do not take more. You are experiencing side effects from the drug. Do not try other drugs/medicines because your central nervous yis highly sensitive now. Please avoid anything that stressed the CNS. No alcohol, no weed, no caffeine, no nicotine. Try to stick to a healthy whole food diet with gentle exercise. Be patient. You will heal from this. 👍 I am not a medical professional. Thanks, Firefly Thanks for the reply, it's been 8 days and hasn't really gotten any better. Im experiencing severe insomnia, low hunger, mood swings, suicidel thoughts, poor memory, anxiety, libido coming and going, bad cognitive function and just overall confusion and an insanely distorted Sense of time. Added a timeline in my signature as well. Thanks, Yahh 2024 - 2025 prozac 26 Dec 10mg, 28 Dec - 1 Jan 10mg, 4 Jan 4mg
Moderator FireflyFyte Posted Sunday at 02:22 PM Moderator Posted Sunday at 02:22 PM As @LostInCanada mentioned, it does appear that you are experiencing an adverse reaction to the Prozac. You can learn more at Immediate adverse reactions to an antidepressant or within a few doses? How long for recovery? You will heal but it will take some time. It is important to not destabilize your system further as it begins to heal so we advise against drinking alcohol, relying on marijuana, or engaging in strenuous exercise. Some items that might help include light exercise (examples such as light yoga or walks outside), staying well hydrated, meditation, and journaling.
