Millie
Hi! I am tapering from 20mg of Celexa, down to 10mg of Celexa, and I feel really, really great, only I can't sleep. This is day 4, and I don't feel sluggish anymore, and don't have a ferocious appetite, but haven't slept in 4 days. I will go to see my Family doc tomorrow. I hate to have to go back up to 20mg, but I am thinking that we should have been more conservative with a 5mg reduction. How long have others experienced insomnia during withdrawal. Although I feel fine, I'm thinking that I might not do well if I don't get sleep soon. Thanks! On Celexa 20mg for 10 years (after postpartum depression/anxiety), 40 pounds overweight, and sluggish. Celexa 20mg from 2005-2015. Tapered to Celexa 10mg for 5 days in April, 2015, and have insomnia. Back on Celexa 20mg, will try again in 2 weeks. Link to comment
ladybug
Going directly from 20mg to 10mg is WAY too fast, and what you are experiencing right now sounds a bit like hypomania to me. If it were me I would immediately go back to 20mg, stay there for a couple of weeks and then begin a much slower taper. It is recommended that you taper no more than 10% of your dose every 4+ weeks. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/1024-why-taper-by-10-of-my-dosage/ a.k.a JMarie Paxil since Mar.1998 2006-2007:40-20mg 2009: 20mg to 14mg 2010: 14mg to 10.5mg 2011: 10.5 to 7.6mg 2012: 7.5 to 6.8mg 2013: 6.7-6.3mg 2014: 6.2mg-5.8mg 2015: 5.7 to 5.15mg 2016: 5.1-4.6mg 1/19/17: 4.5mg 3/17/17: 4.4mg 6/15/17: 4.35mg 8/10/17: 4.3mg 1/29/18: 4.1mg 5/07/18: 4.0mg 7/31/18: 3.9mg Link to comment
Moderator Emeritus mammaP Posted April 20, 2015 Moderator Emeritus Share Posted April 20, 2015 Hi Millie, welcome to SA, you are right that a 50% cut is too much too soon. Withdrawal insomnia is not good and can be avoided with small 10% cuts of the current dose as Ladybug said. Celexa is available in a liquid for easy tapering, or can be made into a liquid quite easily to get small cuts. Here is our topic on tapering celexa.. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/2023-tips-for-tapering-off-celexa-citalopram/ It is important to keep it simple, stable and slow, we call it the 3 KIS. http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/6632-the-rule-of-3kis-keep-it-simple-keep-it-slow-keep-it-stable/ We ask all our members to put their drug and tapering history in their signature strip si it can be seen at the bottom of posts and we don't have to scroll back to the beginning. Here is how to do that ... http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/893-please-put-your-withdrawal-history-in-your-signature/ Hopefully your doctor will support you with a slower taper . **I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge. Administrator Altostrata Posted April 21, 2015 Administrator Share Posted April 21, 2015 Welcome, MIllie. If I were you, I'd go up to 15mg Celexa right away. If you can't do that, go back to 20mg. This topic explains how to titrate Celexa (take smaller dosages) http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/2023-tips-for-tapering-off-celexa-citalopram/ This is not medical advice.
