  1. I wanted to put this out here as I had a prescribing nurse suggest this "drug": http://www.deplin.com/ I do not know if I understand this correctly, but he said I would have to pay $500. for a genetic test and "if I have the right gene" then I could be prescribed Deplin. It is a B vitamin (folic acid) and the pharmaceutical company altered it enough so they could take out a patent on it. He said the basic dose started at about $80. per month. He was suggesting I try this as an adjunct not as anything to help me wean. A little more background on this. This is the guy who put me on Effexor, Trileptal, Klonopin and Lamictal. So, what was I doing talking with him as opposed to spitting on his shoes? Well, I could only get Effexor tablets from the Kaiser formulary. I needed a Dr to give me an Rx for Effexor capsules, which he did. I figured that if he did not, I would tell him that it is all I can do to keep my husband from filing a lawsuit against him, which is true. So, I made nice, took his bill with me which at some point I will return unpaid with a letter explaining my thoughts on what he does. I brought the brochure for this home and threw it away. So, know that Bigpharma is not beyond looking at our wonderful nutrients and (like Monsanto) trying to figure out how to own them. By the way, the Effexor costs $134. a month at Costco. I had to get it through a reputable Canadian pharmacy for $55. I got lucky and Kaiser sent a letter shortly after saying they were discontinuing the Effexor XR tabs and going to a capsule which is what I now use to wean. Alto - if this is not appropriate here or came out of my brain in too disjointed a manner - please move or remove. I just wanted to mention it. I will look into it more on Monday. Crocus
  2. ADMIN NOTE PLEASE READ the first 6 posts of this topic. We have seen that some people may find vitamin B12 supplementation to be activating, causing nervousness, anxiety surges, or sleeplessness. You might find it to be tolerable if you start with a tiny chip from a sublingual B12 tablet (methylcobalamin preferred; cyanocobalamin is most widely available) and very gradually increase the size of the chip over some weeks. How to test for subclinical B12 deficiency: Hannibal L, Lysne V, Bjørke-Monsen AL, et al. Biomarkers and Algorithms for the Diagnosis of Vitamin B12 Deficiency [published correction appears in Front Mol Biosci. 2017 Aug 08;4:53]. Front Mol Biosci. 2016;3:27. Published 2016 Jun 27. doi:10.3389/fmolb.2016.00027 Full text here. Among people seeking treatment for mood disorders, there may be a lot of undiagnosed subclinical vitamin B12 deficiency. B12 is stored in the liver and used up in various metabolic transactions, particularly stress. It helps clean out toxins, homocysteine, and repair nerve cells. As we age, our bodies absorb B12 poorly. But it's not just seniors who might have low B12! Anyone taking a stomach acid blocker is also blocking B12 absorption. Older people taking stomach acid blockers are doubly at risk for low B12. Since B12 is generally found in animal products, vegetarians sometimes have difficulty getting enough. There are other factors that might cause B12 levels to be low, but show up as normal on regular blood tests -- that's why it's called subclinical B12 deficiency. Subclinical B12 deficiency may cause low mood for which many people might seek an antidepressant. Many psychiatric symptoms may very well be just low B12. Over the long run, subclinical B12 deficiency can be as destructive as frank B12 deficiency. Researchers believe that a lot of people who have been institutionalized for dementia or Alzheimer's actually had longstanding subclinical B12 deficiency; low B12 is very common among people who have been diagnosed (or misdiagnosed) with Alzheimer's. Here's a recent post from Dr. Andrew Weil's blog about the neurological effects of low B12: Vitamin B12 and Senior Moments
  3. Some people undergoing withdrawal find niacin to be helpful while others get bad reactions. What's your experience?
  4. Knows anybody someone who knows someone that maybe knows someone who treated his/her psychosis and schizofrenia with niacin/vitamin B3? There's a research for this, but I need to know the good dosage. Maybe other alternatives? I'm desperate and thinking seriously about taking the antipsychotics for all my life if there's a need and start to drink alchool everyday because I see no future in all this
  5. Hi everybody. I've done some reading lately about the possible benefits of vitamin b5 might have with nerve function, cns and hormone production. Does anyone have any experience with this vitamin? I think a b complex might have made me feel worse but this isn't a complex. Any good advice will be appreciated. Also, has anyone had any good experiences with other b vitamins on their own (not in a complex) or any other vitamins for that matter? If so can you explain how they helped? Thanks, Gus.
