Skylarblue75: new and really messed up

Hi Sklylar--I'm glad to see you are hanging in there. I'm recovering slowly, and counting my blessings. I have recently felt happy for a few minutes at a time. I'd not felt happiness for a couple of years.

I am curious about your experience with HRT. I am already scared of it because I can't make sense of the risks and benefits. But how did it affect you? Did doctors test your hormone levels before prescribing, or just go by your symptoms?

2009: Cancer hospital said I had adjustment disorder because I thought they were doing it wrong. Their headshrinker prescribed Effexor, and my life set on a new course. I didn't know what was ahead, like a passenger on Disneyland's Matterhorn, smiling and waving as it climbs...clink, clink, clink.

2010: Post surgical accidental Effexor discontinuation by nurses, masked by intravenous Dilaudid. (The car is balanced at the top of the track.) I get home, pop a Vicodin, and ...

Whooosh...down, down, down, down, down...goes the trajectory of my life, up goes my mood and tendency to think everything is a good idea.
2012: After the bipolar jig was up, now a walking bag of unrelated symptoms, I went crazy on Daytrana (the Ritalin skin patch by Noven), because ADHD was a perfect fit for a bag of unrelated symptoms. I was prescribed Effexor for the nervousness of it, and things got neurological. An EEG showed enough activity to warrant an epilepsy diagnosis rather than non-epileptic ("psychogenic") seizures.

:o 2013-2014: Quit everything and got worse. I probably went through DAWS: dopamine agonist withdrawal syndrome. I drank to not feel, but I felt a lot: dread, fear, regret, grief: an utter sense of total loss of everything worth breathing about, for almost two years.

I was not suicidal but I wanted to be dead, at least dead to the experience of my own brain and body.

2015: I  began to recover after adding virgin coconut oil and organic grass-fed fed butter to a cup of instant coffee in the morning.

I did it hoping for mental acuity and better memory. After ten days of that, I was much better, mood-wise. Approximately neutral.

And, I experienced drowsiness. I could sleep. Not exactly happy, I did 30 days on Wellbutrin, because it had done me no harm in the past.

I don't have the DAWS mood or state of mind. It never feel like doing anything if it means standing up.

In fact, I don't especially like moving. I'm a brain with a beanbag body.

Hi WC, the hrt just ramped up everything. God I wish I could take a med and tapper, I'm so miserable, crying, restless, exhausted, constant mind racing, agoraphobic, anxious, nervous, fear, terror and so much more. This crap has been going on for 30 months now, probably during my pregnancy but the hormones masked most of it. God please I need a break. I also think perimenopause is hitting me too, so what do I do????? I can't tolerate any meds, I'm screwed

Spring of 1998 place on birth control pills for irregular bleeding, high testosterone and one ovarian cyst, stayed on until April 2004, told to take hormone holiday, conceived first son 4 months later-VERY BIG SUPRISE, was told wouldn't be able to have childern or would need reproductive doctor to help. Got pregnant again 2006 with second son easily, then was on/off birthcontrol again until October 2011, concieved 3rd son in October 2011(tried many times to get pregant again when 2nd child was close to 2yrs, hormone problems started again after 2nd child, along with thyroid enlargement.

Spring of 2001 celexa 10 mgs-rx'd by pcp for complaints of chronic fatigue, irritability and weight gain, stayed on until June 2005, switched to Lexapro 20mgs for PPD, stayed on Lexapro 6-7 months, couldn't afford to see psyh dr. and Lexapro, saw PCP switched back to 20mgs celexa in 2007, remained on until November 2011, was c/t off due to 3rd pregnancy, baby had umbilical cord defect, seemed ok during pregnancy, except for crying jags here and there. Our miracle baby was born July 20th 2012, healthy except with reflux. One month later the anxiety, restlessness, horrible crying, insomnia and the deepest depression ever. That started the psyh drug nightmare-benzo's,antidepressants, sleeping pills, mood stablizers. Nothing help made me worse, doctors just kept changing the meds frequently. 4 mental health hospitalizations, rapid detox off benzos Jan 2013, horrible withdrawal and still suffering withdrawal symptoms NO ONE BELIEVES ME, I feel like ive been on one consistant drug withdrawal for the past 2 years

January 2014 slow titrate up of lexapro to 20 mgs-horrible side effects!!, was just rapidly taper by current pysh off to pursade me to try an MAOI-no way!!! Was told should consider ECT

WC to answer your question yes my hormones have been tested a lot, sorry I didn't answer in the pervious post.

This is so awful to hear. It's not you--it's what the drugs did to your metabolism and nervous system. When desperate I got some relief from Benadryl. The hot liquid Theraflu has also saved me at times--it lets me fall asleep during the day, which is sometimes the only way to get through a day. I do a lot better when it's dark outside. So sometimes sleeping through the afternoon, despite the fact that it will cause me to stay up late, is worth it. If I can, that is. The pangs are not as intense in the dark for some reason.

Hi I just got caught up on your thread and was wondering if you have tried food sources of magnesium?  I still can't seem to tolerate the pill variety but I have learned to love humus. For a time I was worried about preservatives and bought the chick peas soaked boiled them and made my own.  I ate it with rice crackers rice thins or carrots or celery... I love it with rice crackers tho they are likely not as good for me.  I started looking at my food a long time ago as in how could I get vitamins and minerals into my body that may help withdrawal.

I found a few things that worked maybe at different times I am not sure now as my memory is not so hot... but over the times... a few things I have tried... the sticks kind of bran cereal that was a mainstay for a long time... even just a tablespoon a day.  Not the buds if you check the nutrition on the box they are not the same. I did not feel the same sore of wellness after eating the buds as I got from the sticks. If you don't like or are leary of milk as I tend to be almond milk is ok.

I did water therapy too 4 glasses of water on waking ... then brush you teeth really well then eat within the hour even if it is just a tablespoon of that bran stick cereal. That is enough.

Grated beets for some reason help me feel better.. sometimes when I feel I can't get up I ear them ... a mix of them with carrot and an apple all grated together with a oil vinegar and a bit of honey and mustard... or whatever dressing you like to make...

I am sorry for posting this if you don;t want to hear it... I just dawned on me that maybe I am giving recipes to people who don't want them... lol I don't know if you read muddles thread or not but I have a street crossing lady that harrasses me with recipes and just had a flash that I am becoming her...

I hope things get better soon.. .

ps the humus around period time may help... I can go on a humus eating spree... if my nerves get back I reach for it immediately and have been know now days to eat the kind right off the shelf a LOT

I wish you peace

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

S,

I have a similar issue. I know I have a hormonal imbalance, but can't do anything to fix it because I can't change my diet and I can't take the needed supplements. :( I feel like I'm backed into a corner.

My hair is falling out, I have cystic acne all over my chin and neck, I have hair growing where it should not be, and now my periods have stopped altogether. :(

It's very frustrating and it makes me very weary to be in this fix.

I just want you to know I understand.

Well went to therapy tonight and my therapist says that she feels the symptoms that ive been experiencing for the past 30 months sounds like psychosis and i should go back into the hospital. Im so scared shes right. I mean seriously whos mind races with music, songs that I hear on the radio that i like orfrom a movie my kids watched and random thoughts like a tv in my head for 30 months straight. Im really afraid that I am psychotic, i dont know what to, im so miserable. I dont know what to think anymore. I just want to be normal.

Help, haven't slept at all, mind wont stop racing with music and incoherent thoughts, the tinnitus wont let up, exhausted. So scared that i have permanent psychosis or brain damage . Why hasnt my mind stopped racing since August 2012. Really no windows for me since this all began Im a monster, horrible mood swings all the time, yelling at my kids and husband. Need for this to stop, maybe I should admit myself again, but it didn't help, i cant do this anymore. Please has anyone been like this for as long and it stopped. I never stop shaking, its 24/7 since November of 2012 and got worse and became constant since January 2013 when i was rapid detox off benzos. My hormones are playing into this, but cant tolerate hormones. Is ECT my only option to reset my brain, i can't relax, i try everything. Im so scared that this is not withdrawal and that im really sick. Is there anybody out there that was on celexa for 10 years,c/t it and recovered because i haven't read anything good.

Been having episodes of rage, like to the point where i want to punch my husband in the face, this is not me, im so afraid that I will hurt some one with this constant agitation. Again it gets worse with monthly hormone fluctuations. I cant go on like this, dont want to end up hospitalized or in jail. What's wrong with me. Im crazy

I had this for months I don't know how many it was intense. I avoided things and listened to the ocean to try to reset my brain as I could not handle sound.  I don't know about psychosis as I had it so long I would doubt a psychosis could last that long but I have not looked it up so don't know. It does not sound like she is very helpful as a therapist I would be expecting her to help you deal with it or end it in some way if she can't do that what good is she?  Just my off the wall thoughts on the subject and no I did not have a therapist for most of my wd the first two years I seen my shrink just to be on the safe side... I started seeing him once a month then went to once every 2 months then one time I just did not go back as it seemed obvious to me we were not doing anything but butting heads.  I was trying to convince him the drugs caused withdrawal and he wanted me to take more drugs.

Just my opinion and maybe not helpful.  For me it gradually decreased.  I wish you peace.

I have had these thoughts too and made a mess of different things because of them and had to spend even more time healing from the fallout of them.  I did more than think I did things and caused problems where non existed... it helped to know this was part of the process and learn somethings to help.

Sometimes in withdrawal I would flip out and yell at people or do other things I would regret it seemed unreal to me once it had passed.  It certainly is not easy... the people around me did not understand I would think it would be easier if they did.  Yet there is still a part of me that is trying to maintain my status as sane as I am not like that all the time.  I will also say I have not read all of both these links and I am going to read them now.

It seems this ended some where along the line I just can't pinpoint when... now it seems to happen when I get really sick.. I can't keep the plot get lost ect. I too wish I understood it better.

peace

Really scared, not doing well at all. Im home alone with the baby, im not making any sense when i talk, this is erratic behavior is so irrational aand I know it. Losing it, want to climb the walls, so nausous, dry heaving. Oh my god

How do women in perimenopause or menopause survive this?? Does it just get worse?Im not strong enough to keep enduring this

my entire family doesn't understand whats happened to me, i try to explain, they say keep going to doctors because their has to be a treatment out there for me. Why didn't i have all these problems during the pregnancy, I tolerated vitamins, dha supplement and calcium, even an occasional half cafe coffee and no problems with food, could exercise, sleep, nap, work, go out places. Now forget it. Why is the anxiety non-stop? This isn't living or even existing. Im at such a loss

I went to a lot of doctors I can't say any of that helped me.  That is not to say there is not a doctor out there who could I just never found one.  I don't know if your aware of this but there is a list on SA of doctors.  None where I live at last check.

I know how you feel and your family too it would seem unreasonable to think this could call be going on and doctors don't know how to fix it. The only thing suggested was to go back on ADs I tried that I also tried some Parkinson drug.. and a few others suggested by the neurologist eventually gave up on him having any ideas to help and tried to go back on low dose of Effexor that did not work either.

The only other suggestion was from the shrink to take a mood stabilizer... to that I just said no.

I don't know if going on a mood stabilizer would have helped.. event he neurologist said since I reacted so badly to the other drugs I would likely just have more reactions.

I am sure it seems unreasonable to your family it still seems unreasonable to me yet her we all are.

peace

Skylar, withdrawal syndrome can make a person very irritable. Do what you can to calm yourself. Many find deep breathing meditation to be very helpful. Read

I am so sorry that you arefeeling so rotten. You are not going crazy you are suffering withdrawal and it is a nightmare.

I feel for you so much and wish there was something I could do to help. Is there anyone who could help with baby?

When pregnant your body is in a different state and with all the hormones it seems that some women feel much better

in pregnancy. It is sad that withdrawal caught up with you. It will pass, it really will.

Sending you a big heartfelt Mamma hug. I hope you start to feel better soon, we are all here for you.

**I am not a medical professional, if in doubt please consult a doctor with withdrawal knowledge.

Skylar, look around for peer support groups in your area. Maybe on Meetup.com there are groups for new mothers. Maybe on https://nextdoor.com/ ?

Thanks alto for the suggestion, since my rapid detox off benzos almost 2 years ago I developed agoraphobia and it's gotten worse. Never had this before in my life, so it's really hard to leave my house and be around people, again a problem I never had. Well I slept ok last night, but am still exhausted. I used to sleep 10-12 hours before a/ds and while taking celexa and was tired. Being always tired had been a problem since I was a kid. I really do feel I have an underlying endocrine issue that has been swept under the carpet, but right now I wouldn't even think of touching any meds, I now can't take Tylenol, it makes me vomit. So lovely, again never had a problem with Tylenol. So love being exhausted and wound up like a top at the same time, ugh I hate this.

I will tell the truth here when I was in one of my many wd years ago when I was well and trying to get off the med I had the same issues with not leaving home and all blinds closed when in the house too... I used crisis lines a lot to get me thru the rough patches.  They helped... here they are anonymous and it kept me going it may be something you could try.  I had a child I was scared to death of losing he had a drug addict father who had money and looked great on paper... so I could not risk it... I use anonymous help at those times as I could not afford a more serious label... which I know I would have gotten and I now know would have been wrong as it was wd.

just an idea peace to you.

Just really want to slam my head against a wall, ugh just to jog my brain. Hate this, just hate this!!! Sorry to be a downer just needed to vent

It's so awful..but you still here..you have survived so far..which actually it's amazing..keep going..wishing some light for you in that dark tunnel soon x

2000 - sertraline for job anxiety low confidence (17 years old) ..which turned the next 16 years into nightmare!

On/off sertraline severe withdrawals every time. 2014 - felt better as reduced dose of sertraline no more inner restlessness. Doctor rushed off again. Hit severe withdrawal. Lost the little I had in life. Couldn't get stable again on 12.5mg. Was switched to prozac. Had severe reaction to prozac..came off in November 2015 at 6mg as felt more confused and damaged on it..Even more withdrawal ..rage, depression, dyphoria, near constant suicidal ideation, self harm impulses, doom, concrete block in head, unable to do much of anything with this feeling in head..went back on 6mg of sertraline to see if would alleviate anything. It didn't..reduced from December to June 2016 came off at 2.5mg sertraline as was hospitalised for the severe rage, suicidal impulses, and put on 50mg lofepramine which in 2nd week reduced all symptoms but gave insomnia which still have..psych stopped lofepramine cold turkey..no increased withdrawal symptoms new symptoms from lofepramine except persistant insomnia which has as side effect.

Taking Ativan for 8 months for the severe rage self harm impulses 1-3 times a week (mostly 2 times a week) at .5mg. Two months (I'm unsure exactly when the interdose started to happen) ago interdose withdrawal seemed to happen..2 days I think after the Ativan.

Nightmare that could have been avoided!

You know what just crossed my mind

when I used the crisis lines all those years ago there was no call display... now there is no such thing as anonymity unless you block your number... just thought of that.  not pushing the issue either just saying it did help me.

Thanks for the replys everyone, not sleeping again got 3 hours, been up since 2:30am, it's now 9:14am east coast time, feeling horrible. Just miserable and feel psychotic. The whole night up hot and sweating but cold at the same time with my mind racing, then during the day I'm freezing cold wearing sweat pants, layers of a shirt, sweatshirt and a sweater again with my mind going crazy. God this doesn't make any sense to me!

Why don't I get these great windows that I see everybody talk about on here? 30 months of suffering. Now do I have to count wd recovery from my last ingested drug? at this rate I will probably be 50 or older before I'm healed, if I even heal. I can't live in constant dp/dr with god awful anxiety, restlessness and no sleep with constant racing thoughts crying all the time for the rest of my life. This is horrible, I've had to go to the eye doctor 3 times in 2 weeks because I can't wear my new glasses she's changed the script 3 times and my vision is still all screwed up, eyes are so dry, can't wear contacts, like my brain is not processing information the right way that's coming in through my eyes. Never had so many issues with my eyes before. My body is so messed up in so many ways and I'm not dealing well with it.

Skylar, I know what it is to feel constantly insane with a mind that never stops with crazy thots.  It is hell.  Is there anything at all that would help your focus?  I know that the baby must take up a lot of time.  But maybe you could find something that causes your brain to override some of the chaos.  I am on the computer with Scrabble or another focused game.  Do baths or warm showers help at all?  Sometimes that helps me.

I know you must feel that this is YOU and that you're not going to ever feel anything else.  But your brain IS constantly working on reorganizing systems that are totally malfunctioning.  Even now, it is working hard to bring itself back to its DNA blueprint.  It's good that you're drug free and can let the brain work on restoring balance.

I know of other ladies who had a lifting of symptoms during pregnancy.  There is another lady on a FB site who is experiencing sooooooooo much of what you are after stopping nursing when her baby was 6mths.  She too was polydrugged and her family doesn't get it either.

It is absolutely criminal what has been done to you but in time you will find yourself feeling more and more recovered.  You might want to read "Imac"'s

post about her recovery.  Even the worst of us find our way back.  The trip back is agony, I know.  I wish I had some really good things that could help you get through each day, but I know there are little things that can help to lessen, even if just a bit, the punishing brain chaos.   Just knowing that this awful hour of pain is one less you will have to go through and is NOT being wasted but is part of the healing process.   xo

I think everyone is still learning about these drugs even people here maybe I know they are watching and thinking.  I am not sure what anyone can say for sure cause I don't think anyone knows for sure.  Just taking a page out of the book of what appears to be the general way things work.. a lot drugs in your history like my history can make it complicated.  Reacting to and quitting fast again same answer and yep I did all the wrong things too...yet I did get waves it took a long time for me to see them.  The first 8 months I was not looking I am not sure if a wave would be thought of as changing symptoms.. or not.. when One thing is replaced by another but I had that for sure in that time and after that time.  I am not sure I would call it a wave then.  To me a wave is where you feel like you may get better where there is enough improvement you can see and feel it for a bit at least.  I am sorry it is taking so long but it would appear in your case to be taking a long time for windows like it did for me. I am not sure why maybe my idea of windows is not right maybe windows is when a symptom ends ... even if it is replaced by something worse. It is hard to say...

maybe somebody will set me straight on this. It is also hard to recall all these years later I just have the gist of it.

About the eye glasses.. and the eyes.  I had this too.  I kept going back to the eye doc saying these glasses are still not right... I could not adjust to the new ones but had no choice as the old ones lost a lens outside and I could never find it and could not recall where I bought then which town or eye doc. as I was on the move then.  Getting it sorted was a bugger as it kept shifting.  I was so fed up I went to see about having laser surgery on my eyes to be done with it... so glad I did not do that as my eyes changed a lot I can't say why this happens maybe there is a thread called eyesight where they have come to some conclusions about this I have not looked... if there isn't there should be.

Not sure how helpful that was likely not much.  I am sorry this is so long and awful.  I use to read about waves too and wonder why others had them and I didn't I thought maybe there is something else wrong with me and that is why I am different.  As I already had that in my head to start with...from 8 months before finding pp and running to doctors.  I decided I may not be the same and to make the most of it just try to be a blessing to those around me if I could while I went thru this.. again I had in my head this may be the last thing I am going to do what kind of impression do I want to leave... another side of that coin is how can I change how I am... if this is my last bit of time on earth how can I change it or my perspective of it to be the best I can get it.  I worked on that for a long time that was my MO basis.  When I finally got a wave I thought I had gone to heaven... it took so long to come then I did not trust it ... it will come I hope it comes soon.  Carry on... and I know how hard it is to live and how easy it is to write carry on if that ticks you off well I would expect that too.

I wish you peace
