  1. Hi, I've been medication-free for 14 years and I've just written to the psychiatrist who originally diagnosed me with Bipolar 1 in 2002 to see if I can get the diagnosis overturned because my mania was caused by sertraline. I'd be very interested to hear from other members who were never manic before being on antidepressants.
  2. New Member: A therapist/GP put me on Celexa in 2002 to help with occasional bouts of anger (not sadness). Then around 2014, my Celexa prescription transitioned to Lexapro/Escitalopram (20mg). This was my only prescription for many years as I was blessed with a healthy life until I decided near the beginning of 2020 to stop taking Escitalopram as I was feeling pretty good and wanted to be pharmaceutical free. Unlike myself, I didn't research the tapering process or ask for medical supervision. I took 20mg tablets when the headaches got bad. The times between headaches got further and further ap
  3. Hi there- been on Lithium 800 mg and Mirtazipine 15mg. absolutely hideous side effects - I'm not sure from which- are forcing me - with my doc's approval - to withdraw these drugs and possibly look at alternatives. Would love to hear some of your members' feedback on this.
  4. Hi! I am in search of some guidance... Since October I have been tapering Lithium and I am now doing fine (not whithout bumps in the road though...) For other reasons, in the last couple of months I have been seeing a GP practising alternative medicine and when I told him I was tapering lithium he gave me some advice, based on his experience with patients tapering psychiatric meds. He suggested me to take magnesium, which I was already taking, and also cannabis sativa oil (not cannabis indica). He seems to have had many patients in my conditions, but since t
  5. Hi! I've been reading posts and discussions for a couple of weeks now, but I wasn't sure I really wanted to try again to get off my meds. I have always thought I am 'broken' and that these drugs are the only things that are keeping me together, but I am not so sure anymore. Here is my story and below I posted some questions about how to go on from here. Any suggestion and / or personal experience is welcomed! I have always been quite a sad child. In my teens and up to my early twenties I went through many typical distress-related problems (lack of selfworth and self conf
  6. Hi all, I searched this site for info on seroquel and lithium but didn't find much. Basically, what I want to do is try to lower my dose of Seroquel. I'm on 300 mg and have been on this dose for 7 years. Been taking seroquel for 13 years, first 3 years on 100 mg, then 3 years on 200 mg and then 7 years on 300 mg. I'm on it for bipolar disorder. I have had two psychotic breaks. Tried to lower the dose 2 years ago by tapering 25 mg every month. When I got to 200 mg I got very depressed and had severe insomnia. The dose was increased back to 300 mg but that didn't he
  7. After 24 plus years of bi-polar meds, lithium and clomipramine, which I don’t think I should ever have been on in the first place, I have finally managed to come off altogether super gradually over the last year. I have been off completely for about three months and feel much better. Except for recent and increasing episodes of acute anxiety and rages. I never had those before. Nothing like mood swings or depressions that I have ever experienced. Could this be symptoms of withdrawal? No-one in the NHS, of which I am a huge supporter, seems to know anything about withdrawal. Even the loc
  8. Good books or review papers on antidpressant withdrawal? Hi All, I'm new here and will spending time reading the many posts, but I'd like to know what are the best books on guiding someone through antidpressant withdrawal. I'm also looking for scientific studies. I have "The Antidpressant Solution" by Joseph Glenmullen, which is good, but is there anything more recent? Thanks Bruci
  9. I'm brand new to this site. I have been on the ride of psych drugs since my late teens. I started with sertraline, which I went off of cold turkey after six months. I self-medicated with drugs and alcohol for the next decade. Was put on paroxetine at age 29. Went off quickly when I became pregnant. I went back on paroxetine in 2012 and was on it for six years. It didn't help much, I gained a ton of weight and had decreased sex drive. In 2018, I went into crisis and began a horrific journey of medication chaos for the next two years. I can list all of the drugs I was put on, but not the length
  10. Hi all, glad to be here. Relatively new to the world of psychiatric medication. Here is my journey so far. I was on Latuda for a few months for mood issues (formal diagnosis of bipolar 2) and the stability was very nice. I also was placed on Guanfacine for ADHD. Back in early July I sunk into a kind of depression, I realized I took no joy in anything in life, whether it was hobbies or even loved ones. I had flat affect and lack of motivation and couldn't gain pleasure from anything. On the night of July 13 when I was laying in bed about to sleep, I had what
  11. Hello. I have been reading threads through this forum and finally I have the courage to ask for help. I saw the wonderful work that you all do here, so first of all, I would like to congratulate all of you involved in helping people. Since 2002 I use antidepressants intermittently. In 2016, due to an undiagnosed withdrawal syndrome, I was gradually subjected to a multidrug regimen. So, since April 2014, I'm on these drugs: Paxil - 20mg initially - Depakote SR 1000mg Modafinil 200mg 450mg lithium Aripiprazole 1mg In February 2020, I
  12. Hello. Details below but I think I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms, mainly intense anxiety and insomnia. Both seem to be geting better following the windows and waves pattern, but it's exhausting. Looking to make sense of what I'm going through and support. Brief med and treatment history 2002-2019 Lithium 900-1200 mg (0.6-9.0 mEq/L blood serum levels), 2018-2019 Prozac 20 mg. After trying various mood stabilizers following manic episode precipitated by Zoloft (very high 100mg+ dosage), I was prescribed lithium, which I took most of the period from 2002 until I stopped it
  13. In fall, 2019 out of the blue, without warning, I had two vertigo attacks (different weeks). For 4 days after I had dizziness while driving to work. I learned about maneuvers to re-set ear particles and those helped. 4 days after the 2nd vertigo attack I had my first ever panic attack. Typical first-timer story: had no idea what was going on, went to the ER. All tests came back negative. Was diagnosed with GAD, even though I've never had an anxiety problem or depression diagnosis my whole life (middle aged here). 3 days after panic attack was prescribed lexapro. That's when the hell
  14. My college age daughter is now home with us after her first manic episode. We think she stopped sleeping due to Vyvanse, which is a stimulant she was prescribed for ADHD a few months ago. She swears it's the only thing that got her through school last semester, but that she'd told the dr the dose was too high. Anyway, even two weeks in the hospital didn't get her down from the mania, or even sleeping that well. They started with zyprexa, and just kept adding and adding things and discharged her. She's been adamant she doesn't want to take clonazepam, so have been cutting down tha
  15. Hello, new family. I’m a 39 year old man, 14 months off benzos. I am not doing well; withdrawal continues. But I want to start coming off of this other crap that I’m sure is worsening my situation too. I trust what I’ve been told about you much more than I trust my psych alone about how to do this. BENZO/WITHDRAWAL HISTORY: I was on Klonopin about four years. In an voluntary inpatient setting I was taken from 3mg to .5mg in one week. This gave me a manic episode that I was then blamed for. (“You must not have been taking your bipolar meds.”) I
  16. I’m Foggy. I’m 29/f/US. Warnings: talk of constipation and emotional issues My story of going on, going off, and going on Lithium. I was diagnosed with Bipolar at 5, I was also being not treated nicely by some people. Put on lithium at about 6. As I got older I started asking for less or none at all but whenever we would start to taper I’d get too stressed and change my mind. But at 12 I was dead set on being off it. I felt like my brain was disappearing and I had to hold onto all the pieces for dear life. I felt like I was trapped on a broken treadmill that would sl
  17. Hello, this is my first post, it’s nice not to just float out in space with this very difficult experience. My story is that I had been on 250 mg of Seroquel in combination with Lithium for about 8 years which kept my bipolar II in pretty good control since 2012. I then had a hypomanic episode in November 2019 (after one of the toughest years of my life, finally cutting contact with my abusive family of origin and the related trauma) that lead to my psychiatrist raising my Seroquel from 250 to 350 mg to help me sleep as I was not sleeping for 3 nights (not to control the hy
  18. I have come off Strattera successfully and am now in the process of tapering off Latuda. I am down to 20mg from 60. It's taken a month and half. I know that's not super long. I have to taper off Cymbalta next which I am planning on doing alot more slowly. I've gone off it before and the withdrawal is quite intense. After the Cymbalta its LIthium and then I'm done. I'm nervous but determined. I'm taking supplements for my mind to help out.
  19. Hi all, This is my first post, so please bear with me. I hope it is okay to discuss tapering off from other psychiatric drugs besides just antidepressants. I am currently taking 20 mg of Prozac, 2.5 mg of Zyprexa, and 1,200 mg of lithium. I am in the research phase and in the process of planning my withdrawal, which is why I decided to join this site. My goal is to eventually taper off of all psychiatric drugs. I have attempted to do this several times in the past, but have ultimately failed and found myself reaching for psych meds again. I first sought "profession
  20. Hi I'm new here. Hoping to come off sertraline and lithium. I believe that my 13 years on lithium have caused me to have cognitive impairment and a severe lack of motivation and my executive functioning is just awful. I've only been on sertraline for about 10 months so I'm hoping it will be a bit easier. Any advice or encouragement would be really welcome. I'd also really like to start a support group for people here in Belfast but I've no clue how to do this. Bye for now and good luck to all
  21. Hi, all. Thank you so much for providing this site. I’ve been inspired by the stories here, and look forward to my own recovery and hope to help others as I can along the way. It’s been a hellish year… I have a rather long story – 99% of which takes place within the last year – so please bear with me. I’ll write this out in a timeline for organization’s sake. In essence, I have a history of anxiety and depression, and have OCD. I have been suffering from severe postpartum anxiety (PPA) and depression (PPD) since delivering my son in May 2018 – exacerbated by a move out
  22. Wow! First of all I would like to say how relieved I was to have found this forum. For the years I've been struggling with this I have gotten so tired of other people (including doctors and therapists!) telling me that what I've experienced isn't possible and that I'm either making it all up or still sick. Everything started in my junior year of college. I had struggled with varying levels of depression and anxiety for most of my life, even resorting to SI when I was younger, but had finally hit a point where I thought that I needed some professional help. Looking back, I'm sure th
  23. Hi, i'm new to this forum, so forgive me if i make mistakes, i'm still learning. I'm about two years out from withdrawing off of Paxil that i tapered down on, and about one year from one situational exposure to benzodiazepines, and two years from consistent benzodiazepine usage (the klonopin,) as i withdrew both the antidepressant and the benzodiazepine at the same time. I am drug free for an entire year. The drugs tagged in my post are also drugs i have been previously exposed to, or had other exposures in the same class of drugs, (E.g, i have also been exposed to zoloft, prozac,
  24. I read that it is more difficult to withdraw from a drug with a short half life. It is suggested to switch to a different drug with a longer half-life of the same category (i.e., antipsychotic) before tapering off (mind.org.uk). I have been on Risperidone for 5 years. I started tapering in April at 1.0 mg and am now on 0.70 mg. I am considering asking my doctor about switching to Zyprexa, another antipsychotic, and then tapering off Zyprexa. Does titrating off one drug and onto another need to be done as slowly as withdrawing from a drug, i.e. 10% every month or some
  25. Hi all, This is my I don't know, 6th? Maybe 7th? Time coming off of cipralex. I have been trapped over the last four years in a cycle of stopping and starting the medication and this past time taking it I became so suicidal that I had to stop cold turkey from 10 mg. I am also taking lithium which I will remain on until I have discussed being weaned off of it and reassessed with my doctor(I say my symptoms match PMDD and seasonal affective disorder with social anxiety more closely than bipolar disorder). Lithium makes me violently sick all night and morning almost every
