  1. Frances has written a success story for mum here. Hello. I'm supporting my mum 63 who has been experiencing some severe withdrawal symptoms these past 6 weeks. I suspected possible withdrawal but I did not know for sure until 2 weeks ago after reading work by Dr Peter Breggin. Mum was on Zoloft 14 years and Lexapro 4 years over a 20 year period. After a 6 month reduction (which mum did on her own) my mum has been completely off meds now 9+ months. Mum seemed to be doing ok, although looking back I can now see withdrawal symptoms, up until 6 weeks ago when she really hit rock b
  2. godiswithme-xanax-taper-after-cold-turkey-of-lexapro-and-abilify It has been 8.5 weeks since I ct'd off 30 mgs of generic lexapro and 2mg of Abilify. I was depressed because my father who lived with us had died and marriage was getting rocky from the stress. I had been taking the generic lexapro for 2 years. This doctor added Abilify in Jan '16. I trusted her. I was depressed over life issues. I have no previous mental health diagnosis other than some anxiety which I had taken Xanax over the past 5 years. Most .5 three times per day. varied in usage - often less. I quick
  3. Hello, I've been on antidepressants off and on for about 11 years. I'm 25 now and started when I was fourteen, just months after I started transitioning into adolescence. My parents put me on them so I didn't have that much of a choice. I also never received therapy while taking medication. I've been in therapy for about 3 years and have a wonderful woman who is willing to help me through all of this. However, I'm having some reservations about coming off of medication because I've tried it so many times unsuccessfully. I have been taking 50mg of Sertraline for the last two years and tried
  4. This is my first time posting in a forum because my psychiatrist told me three months is generally the end of withdrawal symptoms, especially when you were on a low dose like I was. Yet I'm still having bad symptoms. I was on Lexapro for about 15 months at 5mg with one month trying 10mg only to drop back down because of bad side effects. Now after nearly four months off the main thing I have is severe anxiety around my period. Two-three days before and lasting through the week after. I get shaky, anxious, panicky, have pressure and pain in my head and face, sore throat.
  5. Moderator note: link to benzo forum thread - Wisco: Tapering off of Valium Hi everyone. I've been on a long journey with medication. I took various SSRI's from 2004-2012 (this was mainly during my adolescence) for OCD and GAD. I did not put much effort into therapy during this time and was told by multiple psychiatrists that I'd probably need to be on antidepressants for life. I tapered off 20mg of Lexapro back in 2012. It was a very quick taper and to the best of my memory my side effects were not terrible. Unfortunately I have neglected to treat my underly
  6. Hi All, What an informative site. Well done all involved! The first SNRI I was put on was Cymbalta (30 mg since January 2010). Over the years I have made three attempts to withdraw from it. My last attempt to withdraw was in July 2017. My doctor recommended me an every other day tapering from 30mg for two to three months and then to stop. I did what she suggested and this was a big mistake. She then switched me to Lexapro (10 mg). That was two months ago. I have experienced some ups and downs with anxiety since then, but things feel relatively stable now. Here is my qu
  7. Link: I had been on the highest dose of celexa before this. my dose was quickly raised from 20mgs to 30mgs to 40 mgs, where it stayed for many years. My insurance balked at the 40mg dose, saying that over 30mgs was not shown to have any additional effect so about 2 yrs ago, my dose was reduced to 30mgs. I don't even know how many times I have tried to go off this drug. I do not believe it is helping me at all. It seems all I have is the side effecs but no benefit whatsoever. I have had several severe depressions in the past couple of years. I am
  8. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if people still get on this site but I really hope so cause my story is similar to many I've read on here. I started nursing school last fall and was very stressed and I was put on lexapro 10mg. About a month later I met an amazing guy. I absolutely adored him and we were head over heels for each other. About 7 months later we were making wedding plans and even talked about having kids not too far after. I decided to stop taking lexapro because I was so beyond happy and didn't think I needed them anymore. I quit cold turkey. Which I knew was bad but I thought
  9. Hey guys! So I have started my taper off of Lexapro 20 mg, for Panic Disorder and Pure O. When I spoke to my psych she said to just drop from 20 to 10. I of course looked at her like she had lost her mind! I have already quit cold turkey once and after 3-4 months of it, I had a very severe panic attack and went back on. Needless to say, I am doing this the right way now! I started at 18 mg, and have been here for almost 3 months. Of course, it isn't exact, due to it being a pill and a wonky pill cutter. So far, I have felt great. But then I started my period. Of course I was emotiona
  10. Hello, i had been on Lexapro for 2 years : 10 mg and then 5 mg from January 2018 until Mid-july 2018. Following wrong medical advice, I have quit cold turkey at mid-July 2018. It has been a rollercoaster since .... with good days and bad days: -First 2 weeks: everything great except that I feel I just stepped out of a boat when walking and sweating a lot at the gym. easy. -August : crying spells, snapping easily and difficulty to concentrate. Loss of appetite. -September: I am more stabilised (Thanks to the gym and being busy) in terms of snapping at others
  11. Hi, About 12 years ago I took lexapro 10mg for 18 months and tapered completely off in one month. I had terrible brain zaps, loss of appetite, and was uncomfortable in my skin for about two weeks. I was ok for almost one year and then started having panic attacks, which I contributed to going through menopause. The panic attacks were dibilitating, so I went back on lexapro 10mg, and they stopped very quickly. I took lexapro for another 9+ years (never a good time to go off as I was expecting the brain zaps). I had tried to go off several times over the years but never made it. This
  12. I started Lexapro when I was 15 for anxiety and panic attacks and it did wonders for me. I have been on lexapro now for 11 years and for 6 of those years been on 20mg. (Thanks to my psychiatrist who would always tell me to keep going up on the dosage whenever I would feel the slightest amount of anxiety). A few years ago I started working with a naturopathic doctor to help with my anxiety and to plan on weaning off. June of 2018 I decided I am going to try to taper off VERY slowly. I started just scraping off the edge of my lexapro trying to get 18-19mg. For a month I d
  13. Hello all, I've been reading these forums intensely for the past week as I've been in rough shape, but I found out about SA last August when my meds first pooped-out. Anyways, I thought it was time that I posted and got more involved because it's Hell right now.. So a little background, I was first put on Zoloft in 2006 for social anxiety and depression, which was secondary to the social anxiety IMO. I was started on 50mg and had some slight flushing and palpitation, nothing too severe and completely bearable. Then my psych Dr kept increasing the dosage by 25mg I thin
  14. Hello, It's been 3.5 months since I stopped taking lexapro. I still can't get an alcohol buzz. I don't experience any euphoria just the dizziness. Has any else experienced this? Did you regain the ability to feel a buzz? This seems so unnatural. I wonder what is happening in the brain. Thanks.
  15. Hi everyone, Very happy to have found this forum, as I feel my doctor has been a bit too aggressive with medication changes recently and I am not sure what to do. As history, I was put on 10 mg of Zyprexa when hospitalized for a psychotic episode Spring 2017. That was followed by 10 mg of Lexapro for depression and anxiety. When I later had insomnia the Lexapro was increased to 20 mg. I gradually reduced the Zyprexa to 2.5 mg with the support of my doctor. I recently moved across the country and began seeing a new psychiatrist for general support but also d
  16. I'm new here. I have been on various SSRIs for 22 years and depressed since I was at least age 12. I went off the latest SSRI, generic Lexapro, because I have gained 30+ pounds over the last few years, needed at least 12 hours per day of sleep and still wasn't happy. I am on the max of Bruproprion. It doesn't seem to have any unwanted side effects. It is supposed to be at least weight neutral when taken without other drugs. The physical withdrawal effects are brain zaps, ringing in the ears, dizziness and nausea. These aren't 24/7 and they may be subsiding. Hard to say. I tapered from
  17. Hey there, So it's taken me awhile to work up the courage to share my story. My journey with SSRI's began when I was 9 years old. In hindsight, I think it was a combination of being on a string of antibiotics (with everything we know about the gut/mind connection now) and living in a hugely dysfunctional family (i'm an empath/highly sensitive and tend to feel the emotions of others) that started my "depressive" symptoms. I also had a depressed mother (since giving birth to me) and she too was on Prozac so it only made sense to put me on it as well I guess? the medicating of young chil
  18. Hey everyone! I really need some answers because I've looked everywhere to try and find one answer which can relate to my question but sadly to no avail. I was on 20mg Cipralex for 7 years due to general anxiety disorder. I was feeling better last year so decided this year in February I would start tapering and weaning off. It all went great until roughly 7 weeks ago when I went from 5mg to 2.5mg. Withdrawal has hit me hard and I have been off work since then. My question is basically, after now 7 weeks is it safe to go back up to 5mg from 2.5? I felt fine on 5mg hence
  19. ADMIN NOTE 10 09 17 Lilu wants everyone to know: "Please disregard my initial posts, since my knowledge about the subject of withdrawal was very limited and often wrong. Please follow the administrators' knowledge and advice to properly taper your medication." I would like to know if anyone else has experienced while on Pristiq: I take 50 mg of Pristiq every morning at around 8 am. But despite sleeping for 8 or 9 hours a night, I wake up feeling tired and sleepy with a heavy brain fog that pretty much lasts all day. It does seem to lift at around 3 pm when I find mysel
  20. I'm kindled now since 2012,when I reinstated Fluoxetine after 10 months clean of it .the first capsule I took made my symptoms worse than before. After that I tried to come off of it,I did quick taper, then CT,then reinstating untill I went on brain kindling, last year my psychiatrist switched me to Escitalopram Lexapro tablets but made once again my depression and anxiety more worse! I m tapering now by doing no more than 5% of daily dose wich was 5 mg ,it's my second cut now every cut is 15 days, but steel feeling withdrawals! Any thoughts?and advices,?
  21. I hope somebody can help me. I was on Zoloft for eight months at a low-dose of 25 mg during my pregnancy. After the pregnancy, it was not working. I had a lot of anxiety. I tried to go up on the dosage and it did not work, so my doctor prescribed Lexapro. She told me just to cut the 25 mg in half for two weeks and introduce Lexapro. Once I introduced Lexapro I had a bad reaction. Now it's been four months later and Im still withdrawing from Zoloft. I'm having terrible dizziness and feeling off balance still. My anxiety has been through the roof. I've been to the ER multiple time
  22. Hey y’all! I’m so glad to have found this site. I’ve been on lexapro for 15 years, currently tapering off and holding at 10mg. It’s been four weeks since my last “regular dosage” of 20mg. No withdrawal symptoms for the first three weeks and then BAM! Brain zaps, exhaustion, nausea, one bout of vomiting. Insomnia, which I expected, at least. Symptoms resolving now that I’m taking fish oil, B complex, and magnesium. Docs have always suggested a 50% taper to me and I’m done with that! Hoping to stay here at 10mg for quite a while before doing a nice 10-20% step around my Thanksgiving or C
  23. Hi all! I'm so so happy places like this exist to aid in our recovery! A little background on me - I was prescribed lexapro 10mg August of 2017 after a horrible bout of anxiety. I literally had tried everything under the sun to feel better and I was at the end of my rope, so it seemed like medication was the only option. It felt like a miracle! Within days I felt back to myself and continued to feel great for 4 months - so good in fact that I talked to my doctor about tapering. I had zero withdrawl and felt pretty good until 6 months after starting the taper. My insomnia came back full fo
  24. 10 years ago I started having what I thought were panic attacks diagnosed by my Dr...I was put on 10 mg Lexapro. During the last 10 years I still had the so called attacks but only a few so we assumed the drug was working.....until July 2015 when I had another episode that lasted 4 days... a pulse of 180 that would just not go down...In th ER an attendant looked at the monitor and said casually -oh you have “a-fib”....something I had never heard of..... which convinced me that all those panic attacks were really a-fib attacks...because they all felt the same! Last June 2017 I decided al
  25. Hi, I've been on Lexapro for a year. My highest dose was 5 mgs. Since Aug. 4th I tapered to 1,25 mg daily. I am feeling terrible. A complete lack of motivation. Unable to get out of bed, wash myself. Stopped working a year and a half ago, am on disability benefit. Lots of anxiety, compulsions and obsessions (hand-washing), terrible insomnia. The additional problem is I'm taking Valium and Ambien. For sleep also Seroquel, a tiny amount (a quarter of 25 mg). Also anti-acne (BC) medication Diane-35. Used to be on Lexapro 10-15 mg in years 2007-2011, switched to Effexor for two years 2012-2013.
