  1. Hey there! So I'm now 19 and my life has been hell for over a year now. I have a bit of a history with antidepressants. I started Zoloft at age 12 and ended up quitting after a year or so, no issues (below is my med list after starting Zoloft again at age 14). For 3 years until completely stopping drugs, I was on Lexapro, propranolol, and gabapentin. These drugs were used for depression and migraines. Through things like therapy, I was able to overcome depression and mild-to-moderate anxiety. I was tired of being medicated and wanted off. Unfortunately, my GP took me off of things wayyyy too f
  2. I am only 12 clean; are we calling it clean? This is the 5th time I have gotten off of an anti-depressant; Lexapro. The first 4 times was Celexa. All I ever took was Celexa until 16 months ago when I started Lexapro. In the past, with Celexa, I weaned for a year. No reading about weaning and no direction with a doctor. Just me thinking I needed a year. But this time I came off in only 2 months unfortunately. Because thats what the doctor told me to do and I wanted to get pregnant. I am 37 and my first son is 7. They are far enough apart already. But I am no longer ready to have
  3. Four years ago during one of my attempts of getting off my AD, I started having tinnitus. It literally threw me into a nervous breakdown. I didn't know what was going on....anyways-fast forward 4 years, I have learned to live with the constant ringing in my ears. I started tapering about a month ago. This week I noticed a whistle from time to time when I talk. I have discovered when someone talks (or I do) in a little bit of a higher tone, I hear this annoying whistle in my right ear. Honestly I am totally okay with it....(because there are others struggling in this world with way w
  4. Hi everyone, I am new here so not sure what the protocol is or how to use this site properly, so please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong section. I am looking for some advice from anyone that has done a straight switch on SSRI's. My story is that I was a long term paroxetine user (over 20 years) I was relatively ok on my dose of 40mg for anxiety, ocd. For some unknown reason 2 years ago in my infinite wisdom I decided that it was no longer working for me and that I may lose some weight if I switched to another SSRI, so, as I had a brief experience (1 year) with escitalopram
  5. Hey guys, I want to tell you my story. At the moment I am doing very bad. I have very severe anxiety and I don't have any idea on what to do. Let me tell you my story first. I was on Lexapro from January 2019 untill August 2019. I was also on Wellbutrin from May 2019 until August 2019. Although I was doing quite well I for some reason wanted to get off those medications. I tapered the Lexapro from 10mg to 2,5mg over the span of I would say 2-3 months (I am not exactly sure). I was decreasing with 2,5mg at a time. At the time I didn't know that this w
  6. I go by Jacq/DemonOfSarila/Sarila/she/her. Currently taking: 10mg Lexapro (escitalopram) & 50mg Trazodone & tracking them in a google spreadsheet Starting dose: 20mg Lexapro & 100mg Trazodone Taper started: July 2020 Max dose: 20mg Lexapro & 150mg Trazodone Meds started: 2014 Anyway, as far as detailed history, I guess let's start at the very beginning? Issues with depression symptoms started in high school, some time 2002-2006. Major depressive episode in 2014, about March to November. Saw a few doctors, tried a few pills an
  7. Hi there, I am not sure the best way to start, and the answer to my question may already be buried in one of the many other excellent responses, but here is the question anyway. I take 2.5 mg Lexapro by cutting in half the 5 mg pill, and want to taper to 0. I tried this before by going to 1.25 mg by cutting the 5 mg tablet into 1/4ths and was OK, but then tried using a compound pharmacy to get smaller doses to get to 0. However, about 3 days after starting to take 2 what were supposed to be 0.5 mg doses (to go from 1.25 to 1.0) of the compound pharmacy doses, I had a
  8. I took a generic Lexapro 10mg (oxalate of escitalopram) from age 15 to now (I'm currently 21). Last year I tried tapering it off for over a month and after stopping it I had the absolute worst breakdown of my life, most intense depression I've ever had and nearly lost my life. Now I'm back on it 15mg/ day and fearing I might never be able to stop it. It's so sad they put me on this at age 15 when I had absolutely no clue what it was. I only had some trouble with school and they altered my biology forever because of it. I'm feeling hopeless about this and sta
  9. Hello! Here is my story: Started taking Lexapro in 2012 and it really helped me to function in life during a stressful time. Decided to go off Lexapro in 2017. It was a fast taper, and I ultimately ended up staying at 5mg. Acute withdrawal symptoms were brain zaps, agitation, anxiety but they subsided after the first month, and over the course of the next 6-8 months, I slept a lot. I planned to ultimately finish the withdrawal process in the future. October 2020, I started putting a withdrawal plan together. Instead, I ended up going CT on Nov. 1 when
  10. anyone going through this ....... i have been on Lexapro for almost 18 years, went up to 40 mg 5 years ago felt better for a while and it hit me again head pressure( brain is not working right, lack of concentration} feels like my eyes are lagging, weakness, blurry vision, nausea, eyes tightness. Did brain, neck, lumbar, mris, ct scans with angio, all kinds of blood work , hospital visits almost every 3 mnths. no answer , started the withdrawal process about 17 weeks ago, not fun at all, daily disorientation, dizzy, balance issues, no appetite, lightheaded, agitation
  11. I have been off cyprelex for 6 months now and it’s been dreadful ever since my husband had an affair on me and told me I needed meds when I suspected it so I took them for a year and then found out about him so I decided to go off. I went from 20 to 10 to 5 mg in 3 months and had severe reactions . Almost immediately my panic came on fast and hard and the fear of dying was all day everyday. I called ambulances was put on monitors to check heart everything was ok. Here I am 6 months later though and everyday I fear death ! I can’t stop googling symptoms . Tingling in arms legs feet and hands ,
  12. Used2be: Tapered off Lexapro after 5 years on......in withdrawal hell ^ Introduction topic It’s been over seven years now since I’ve taken any sort of antidepressant, and I am in an infinitely better place these days. I was on all types of ADs over the years, including SSRIs and MAOIs. I even went through Electro-shock therapy in the mid 90’s in a desperate attempt to relieve my intractable severe depressions. In 2008 I finally found incredible relief with Lexapro, and I will never regret taking it, but the withdrawal from it was quite intense and lasted for a good long year.
  13. I whoopsed and I need advice. Have been on escitolopram for about year. 20 mg/day. Have been on & off other antidepressants (Paxil, Zoloft) throughout life. This is first time on lexapro. Doc initially put me on Zoloft as it had been good before, but I reacted very badly to it. In the past I have “accidentally” weaned - forgotten to take more & more often then just stopped, without issue. I thought that’s where I was at with lexapro (and am in a new relationship and noticing that being off for a couple of days really improves sex experience. This is impor
  14. Hello, I’m new, I’ve been on 10 mg lexapro for 11 days. I want to bridge to Prozac. Lexapro side effects and fear of harder withdrawal ( to say the least from what I’ve read) if I wait are my strong motivations. I was on 20 mg of Prozac for about 6 yrs up until 2017. I had no problem stopping because of the long half life I assume but had virtually zero issues. For context I’ve also taken trazadone 50mg for sleep for 12 yrs and have not been able to get off that, so I do have experience with miserably failed ct attempts and one crude ( pill cutt
  15. ok! so where do i start ive been reading on this website almost since the withdrawal started back in october and im just now starting an account! but anyway i recently tapered from 40mg of lexapro to 20 in one month and 10 the next month and the doctor said to stop after that which i did and boy do i feel bad some of the strangest symptoms ive ever felt in my life. I should mention the reason i got off was because for some reason i developed a horrible phobia of medication like im even scared to take a flinstone gummy its so bad which from everything ive read on here would make reinstatement v
  16. Hi I'm 3 months from cold turkey lexapro 10mg, I have read many people going on years with withdrawl from cold turkey, would it be advised to reinstate liquid lexapro at 1mg? Or ride this out. I think I'm getting windows already, but symptoms are still debilitating, I was hit withdrawls basically day one of stopping or my body just refused the drug. I ended up in hospital from mistakenly taking 20 mg over 2 days instead of 10mg heart went into SVT major panic attack, violent diarheah and intense shaking fever etc persisted for a full week 10 minutes or so after taking my norma
  17. Hello, I need some recommendation for my tapering. Here is my background At 15, i had a massive burn-out and was prescribed antidepressants. I am today 23 and have been on antidepressants almost without interruption. I don't remember all the different antidepressants I was on. I know it did help when i was in emergency situation (extreme anxiety and depression) but it was not satisfactory either, that's why i always had the intention to stop. I quit Effexor once and Brintellix once without a very long taper and didn't feel any major WD symptoms, except that my depression and anxiety (tha
  18. Hello, new member here I started Lexapro (10mg) on 12 October together with xanax. Took the xanax for 2 weeks then tapered it down successfully. Today I am exactly 3 weeks off benzos, only had withdrawal symptoms for 2 days. I was sleeping well until last Tuesday, I started having insomnia for no reason. I wasn't stressed, anxious and wasn't worrying. I didn't have any pain either. That's what I mean with "for no reason". I also want to start tapering the Lexapro since I hate meds (This is the first time ever that I've been on meds). The capsules that I'm taking a
  19. Hello everyone, I was on Mirtazapine for about 3 years - 15 mg. I had a stressful time going on and decided to up to 30 mg. I then a few weeks later started suffering from a lump in throat/tight throat feeling, muscle tension in neck, twitching all over body, insomnia. I talked it over with my Psych Doc and we decided to go back down to 15 mg, the twitching is still there, but its not as bad. I still suffered from the lump in the throat feeling, though. I was then precribed 10mg of Lexapro and quickly went up to 20mg within a few weeks on top of Trazadone for sleep. After weeks of being o
  20. I don't know whether it has anything to do with Lexapro withdrawal, but does anyone have this? That and brain zaps, feelings that weird hot stuff is trickling down the inside of my head. Sorry it sounds weird
  21. Hi Everyone, Sorry about any misspellings or rambling/fragmented sentences. I'm in the middle of a wave of high anxiety with severe insomnia. I figured it was time to give this a shot. I've been on and off Lexapro since 2014, mostly on. I had never taken a medication my whole life, barely took headache meds. Very active my whole life. I had flare ups of anxiety since I was a young child but I never knew what it was and just powered through. I'd always distract myself by working out, running, video games, etc. In 2012 my four year old son
  22. I've read this forum for a little while but decided to join the conversation, as I don't have anyone in real life who fully understands. I started taking meds without doing much research or really understanding their appropriate usage, so I have to admit all of my medication-taking has been pretty haphazard, poorly managed, and minimally supervised. It was only within the past year or so that I have realized what a mess I've gotten myself into. I have struggled with depression & anxiety since childhood, but started with Zoloft in 2013 during an bad depressive episode that inter
  23. Hi Everyone, I’m hoping some of you could help me out on what my next steps should be since I’m 23 weeks pregnant and now very scared of what the next months and years hold for me. Here’s my history. When I was 16 (2006) I went on Zoloft due to break up with a boyfriend I could literally scream now that my psychiatrist kept me on the drug all these years I’m 31 now. Over the years I upped the the dose to 100mgs of Zoloft and stayed there for the most part in December of 2018 my mental health started declining and I developed severe ocd symptoms I was so scared we t
  24. Hi. I started Lexapro roughly 15 years ago, 20mg, for anxiety/panic attacks. I did fine on it (although I experience emotional numbness). Toward the beginning of this year, the Lexapro seemed to stop being effective/stopped working, as I was experiencing some depression. The psychiatrist (assistant) added Abilify toward the end of May. It didn't seem to work, so I was advised to stop it at end of June. He then told me to stop my Lexapro all together and start Cymbalta 30mg immediately. I listened and did this on 7/4/2020. I plummeted into withdrawal hell (unable to function/bedridden)
  25. I was on Klonopin for 5 plus years as an add-on to Lexapro that I have taken for two decades. I did a long taper to get off of Klonopin a year ago and decided to taper off of Lexapro last month. Unfortunately, I went from 10 to 5 mg and after about 10 days began feeling really bad. I went back up to 10 mg but the damage was done and now I am trying desperately to stabilize. Should I be on a slightly lower dose or stay at 10 mg to get back to feeling better?
