I have been on myriad anti-depressants since 1982 for major depression and generalized anxiety. Imipramine, desyrel, ativan. Off drugs from 1984 till 1995. Started Prozac 1995 till 2014 (did well from 1995 to 2011). Tried Wellbutrin, Cymbalta. Abilify and Trintellix from March 2014 till August 8, 2017 (depression free). Had to withdraw due to cervical dystonia and tremors which still persist. Terrible experience withdrawing from Abilify and Trintellix. Started Wellbutrin 150 mg. an

I have been put on Escitaloprám ( 10 years) then stopped working, next day on Zoloft (7 weeks) made me terrible ill and stopped, put on Citalapram for 9 days and Dr said stop for 2 weeks and he will evaluate me. I didn't go back ro see my Dr and was clean for 3 months and I crashed. Went on Cymbalta for 1 day and was out cold for 2 days, Dr put me on prozac (2 days) made me sick, so I stopped, then put back on Zoloft for 2 days and became really ill and lost 8kg in 2 weeks. 23 days clean and I was going crazy. 3. I'm new here. I began a (too fast) taper of 40 mg Prozac at the end of January 2018. Had been on for many years (at least 10+). As a sidenote, I also have Lyme disease which muddies the waters of symptoms and will explain why I didn't catch that I was declining once I started tapering. In looking back at texts I was writing to friends at the time, it is (now) clear to me that I was declining mentally very soon after I reduced the dose of Prozac, but I was attributing it to Lyme disease (not discontinuation of the drug), so I never connected the dots. I started reducing Prozac end
  4. Hello, thought I'd post here as it seems like a fairly supportive place. Here's my story... In 2003 I was put on 20mg of prozac for instrusive thoughts (mainly the fear that I would lose control and attack others). It improved my mood, however, it did cause emotional blunting. Incidentally, it didn't have any effects on either sexual function or cognition, so I was happy taking it. I was able to function fairly well whilst taking it. I then stopped it (cold turkey) for 8 months in 2008. Had no physical withdrawal symptoms, but I did feel really depressed for all the time I was off it -
  5. Hello, I m Melany and I stopped Prozac 66 days ago. I ve been on antidepressants for 2 years now because I had a major depression and Gad with Ptsd and probably a personality disorder. I have some borderline tendancies and obsesive compulsive behaviour sometimes.Recently diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. But mainly I suffer from anxiety the most. I was on benzos for months and quit them and now I am trying to recover from antidepressants or my disease. I was never doing really well on prozac either , it was just keeping my panic atacks away. I was having waves till some

AKA 5htp and oxitriptan (INN) [Also see our topic on SAM-e] http://www.5-htp.net/Safety.asp 5-HTP Safety, Side Effects and Dangers Safety and Side Effects 5-HTP appears to be well tolerated with few and relatively mild side effects, the most common being nausea. However, large doses of 5-HTP should be avoided as it can result in the formation of excessively high levels of serotonin in tissues other than the brain, resulting in significant adverse reactions. 5-HTP is generally better tolerated than its SSRI counterparts, such as Prozac®........ 7. HI, I'm new to the community and at this point am very scared. I will give a quick history and then a couple questions that I would love help with, if you don't mind. I have been on and off prozac for around 9 years(as needed). I was diagnosed with PPD after my son was born. I never experienced emotional blunting while just on the prozac. However, in Dec. 2017 I had a breakdown after suffering a big T (trauma). My doctor prescribed me Abilify to go along with my antidepressant. I almost immediately felt emotionally blunted, and asked if it could be the drugs. I never
  8. I am brand new to this site and scared to death after reading this post BUT hopeful. 1986 Prozac now Fluoxetine 20mg 2x a day added 2002 Postpardum Wellbutrin now on 300XL 1 x day Just began reading A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan MD which is how I learned of this site I will soon turn 56 and antidepressants have ruled my life. I can see the prolonged use is causing my condition to worsen as I an having to go to Canada for Brand Name (generic doesn’t work) Insurance won’t cover $2400 month Brand in the US. I know this will be a challenge but with Dr. Brogan’s
  9. Hi just a little about me! I have been taking fluoxetine for approx 20 years! Throughout which time I have continued to struggle with coping and mood! I have made adjustments in my life to help me cope better: not overloading myself, mindfulness, taking it easy and trying to manage my reaction to situations and life better! I am now weening myself off Prozac! I have always taken 20mg. At the moment I am down to taking the tablet just 5 days per week. As for symptoms, I never felt well while taking them, tired moody, highs and lows, generally feeling unwell. Noticeably more recently foggy head,
  10. Hi folks, Just looking for a bit of advice. I'd been on Prozac, 25mg a day, for 9 months, for depression and wanted to come off them. I was advised by my doctor to take a 25mg tablet on alternating days for 1 month and then stop completely. I did this and have now been off for 4 weeks. Asides from some rather severe depression symptoms my main withdrawal issue has been PGAD (Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder), something which I suffered with 2 years ago. What I'm wondering is, does this mean I tapered off too quickly? I should also mention I have M.E. and tend to respond strongly
  11. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE TOPIC BEFORE GOING OFF PRISTIQ. Pristiq comes in insufficient dosages to taper. Do not alternate doses of Pristiq to taper -- this will cause the levels of this medication in your brain to go up and down and is second only to cold-turkey in causing withdrawal symptoms. AND DON'T COLD-TURKEY EITHER!!!!!!!!! To reduce the risk of withdrawal symptoms and post-discontinuation prolonged withdrawal syndrome, as with other psychiatric drugs we recommend reducing Pristiq by 10% per month, calculated on the last dosage. (The amount of the reduction gets p
  12. Hello! How slowly should you taper off Fluoxetine when you’ve been taking it for 20 years? I started taking 20mg fluoxetine every day in 2002. In 2013 I reduced it to one every other day. Then in 2019 I reduced it again to Mondays and Thursdays (i.e. alternating between every two and every three days). Two weeks ago (Jan 2021) I reduced it further to every three days - and I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms. How long do you think these symptoms will last for? And should I wait until next year before reducing it to every four days? Any advice would be very welcome!
  13. Hi Everyone, I’m hoping some of you could help me out on what my next steps should be since I’m 23 weeks pregnant and now very scared of what the next months and years hold for me. Here’s my history. When I was 16 (2006) I went on Zoloft due to break up with a boyfriend I could literally scream now that my psychiatrist kept me on the drug all these years I’m 31 now. Over the years I upped the the dose to 100mgs of Zoloft and stayed there for the most part in December of 2018 my mental health started declining and I developed severe ocd symptoms I was so scared we t

First of all, hello everyone. My native language not English.Im from Turkey.Im 26 years old and Im male.I had social phobia and I looked for a solution to this situation. My psychiatric adventure started at the age of 12 with prozac. I used it for 1 week and quit. Then I started again at the age of 18 with paxil. I used it for 2 weeks and quit.Short-term use of the drugs because it numbed me. When I could not cope with anxiety at the age of 21, I went to the doctor again. And this is how the real adventure that lasted until 10 months ago started. Doctors have tried all the drugs on me (lustral,
  15. See journal articles about PSSD in Papers about Post-SSRI Sexual Disorder (PSSD) Please note that SurvivingAntidepressants is a site for tapering and recovery from withdrawal syndrome. While we see PSSD sometimes as an aspect of withdrawal syndrome (and we see gradual recovery from it as well as withdrawal syndrome), this site is not specifically for discussion of treatment of PSSD or its neurological origins (which at this time are highly speculative). If you wish to discuss symptoms, theories, and treatment of PSSD, please go to these sites: PSSDforum http
  16. Took and stopped prozac and abilify with not much problem. Following ocd depression and a panic attack took them again. After a week constant panic attack and insomnia. Doctor gives lexapro(10) and zyprexa(5). A Week later i decide i have to stop. Tried tapering zyprexa but because of the ocd coming back failed badly. Then the energy decreased and 4 days later sleep problems started so i took zyprexa again 0.6 mg ma
  17. Hello, I was hoping someone could give me some advice about some severe symptoms I've been experiencing since switching from Lexapro to Prozac and back again. Here is my story: Diagnosed with OCD and depression at 18. Prescribed 60 mg Prozac which I eventually manage to reduce to 30 mg. Continue taking this dose of Prozac for about 20 years. At the end of last year Prozac seems to have lost its effectiveness so I speak to my doctor about switching to Lexapro which I've heard has less side effects. As instructed by my doctor I reduce my Prozac dose to 20 mg for two weeks, wait 5 days withou
  18. Hi! My name is Kim. I’m 62 years old. I’ve been on 20mg of Prozac for about 28 years. I started on them from having PTSD as a survivor of childhood sex abuse. I went to talk therapy many times which helped a lot. I have had multiple medical problems over the years that I now believe, in retrospect, are from taking the Prozac. I’ve been to many psychiatrists in my life. They all told me antidepressants were harmless, esp SSRIs, that I could stop anytime I wanted to. But I’ve tried many times and couldnt get off. I was told by the psychiatrist that my symptoms were returning. Years later I reali
  19. Hello everyone, just a 43 year old woman looking for advice I have been on Sertaline 50 mg since 2016 switch from prozac 20 mg by my GP; before that I was on prozac for about 13 years. I was less religious with my use of my sertraline over the past year, and I had an anxiety flair over the fall and reinstated my 50 mg. My anxiety increased and was given ativan 1 mg. I took this nightly for 10 days, then got another Rx from my doctor. I was freaked out for addiction, so took it rarely in .5-1 mg. Eventually my insomnia and depression was so bad that at the urging of my friend I wa
  20. Hi, this forum has been doing so much for me, so I want to thank you for all your stories and the constant hope that has got me through withdrawal this far. After the worst 7 months ever. I’m finally seeing major progress and I like to say now I’m half way back to healed. The issue is I’m currently in a tough wave and just like from the start I’m experiencing very confusing and intrusive thoughts, on top of many many other symptoms, these thoughts do not feel like my own.. almost like I’m a spectator and sometimes the nature of the thoughts can be very distressing. w
  21. Greetings everyone! Just want to say I am so happy to have found this forum and website. Have been drifting along with no oars for a decade, looking for answers. Was beginning to believe this would be a lonely journey, and was not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel. A little personal history, had often struggled with anxiety (and to a lesser degree depression) for most of my life. Initially took the form of public speaking fears, and social anxiety, around the age of eleven. Of course, was unable to recognize it for what it was and later sought help for panic attacks in my e

  23. Hi all, I am trying to wean off of Paxil 20mg. Has anyone switched to Prozac due to its longer half life then tapered off with success?
  24. Hi, I hope I'm using this correctly. I have been on Paxil for about 10 years. Had trouble getting off it. My psychiatrist said to try Prozac. Switched and was on Prozac for about 8 months. Tapered to 10mg for a month after being on 20mg and quit. Had brain zaps but nothing else. Everything was okay until a month after. I suddenly had insomnia. Couldn't sleep and trazadone only helped 1-2 hours. Didn't talk to my psychiatrist but just went back on Prozac 10mg. Met with him two days later. But this time taking it caused a lot of anxiety issues. He said it will take weeks to work aga
