  1. Hi all, This is my first post, so please bear with me. I hope it is okay to discuss tapering off from other psychiatric drugs besides just antidepressants. I am currently taking 20 mg of Prozac, 2.5 mg of Zyprexa, and 1,200 mg of lithium. I am in the research phase and in the process of planning my withdrawal, which is why I decided to join this site. My goal is to eventually taper off of all psychiatric drugs. I have attempted to do this several times in the past, but have ultimately failed and found myself reaching for psych meds again. I first sought "profession
  2. 2-17-16 I was taking Effexor for 13 years (since I was 19y/o) up until a year ago then was weaned off with Prozac till September 2015. I experienced everything that everyone has talked about. October and November seemed to be going well and then December developed SEVERE stomach pain and burning with GERD/GI issues. I went to the doctor and have since been on Prilosec 2x a day which isn't doing sh*t for me. I am completely terrified. They ran the basic tests of ultrasounds and blood work and came back normal. I am terrified of having the scope although that is what's next when I go for a foll
  3. On day 5 only of using 10mg of Prozac with 75mg of Effexor for first week, then 20mg of Prozac and 37.5mg of Effexor for week 2, then no more Effexor. Could it work? Who the hell knows? Been on antidepressants for 20 years and have had enough of withdrawal/activation syndromes/poop out. These are powerful analgesic drugs that should never be prescribed. Psychosocial support(cbt, exposure/desensitization therapy works and is much safer).
  4. Can anyone share if while coming down off of Effexor XR and bridging and going to Prozac they had horrible panic and anxiety symptoms with numbness, tingling and weakness? I feel like I'm coming out of my skin and have a terrible dread, panic waking up. My feet feel cold at night, then on fire in the morning. I can't get any relief. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. I suffered from depression and was put onto fluoxetine (Prozac) about 10 years ago. Did 2 months on increasing doses but was having no effect. Easy switch to citalopram. Upped to 60 mg. Seemed to control depression quite well for quite a while. About 7 years ago citalopram stopped being effective enough so got moved to venlafaxine (Effexor). Venlafaxine worked, but whenever I missed a dose (took extended release version and always took about 8am) i'd get a headache by about 2pm. Since about June last year i've been coming off V. 225 to 150 jump I made without any pro
  6. I have been on antidepressants 3 times in the last 14 years. Usually would take them for 6-8 months and then taper off with no problems. The last time I took them (2011), I needed the maximum dose of sertraline (200mg) to get an effect. After a year on it, I felt it was time to stop. The nurse insisted I had to keep taking or risked relapsing into severe depression. I tried several times to bring up the topic to no avail. After about 1.5 years on it, I cut the dose on my own to 150mg and felt ok for 2 weeks. But after I started having a dull headache that lasted hours, dizziness, serio
  7. Hi there, I am new here. Been on different anti-depressants since 1995. Recently had been on Prestiq 100 mg and Abilify 10 mg. Due to procrastination, finances and major stress, depression and an addiction I ran out of the Abilify and only had 4 Prestiq left before I finally made a Dr appointment and paid 150.00 cash self-pay to see my long-time Dr. Due to very low income and no insurance he switched me from Prestiq to Prozac 40 mg which is much cheaper (Fluoxetine). First Prozac was 1/12/17...he said it will help but not prevent all the Prestiq withdrawals. I still feel the loss of the P
  8. Ugh5000 Hello Everyone, I am very happy to have found this site. Any help that could be offered would be greatly appreciated. I hope today is a better day for all of you. I have been taking SSRIs for about 18 years for OCD. The main drugs I have taken in order are Celexa, Lexapro, and Prozac. I recently came off of Prozac under a Psychiatrist's guidance. I have been off of Prozac for 5 weeks and 2 days. The withdrawal has been absolutely miserable. I have experienced extreme rage, irritability, brain fog, d
  9. Hi everyone, I am a 30 year old woman from California. I have been on Prozac since I was 13 years old. 3 years ago I started feeling extra depressed, and my psychiatrist doubled my dosage from 20 mg to 40 mg. I felt insanely good for a couple of weeks, and then I became even more depressed. I had made a plan to OD and kill myself. I agreed to voluntary hospitalization at the suggestion of my psychiatrist. When I was released, I was taking 10 mg of Abilify, 100 mg of Lamictal, and 20 mg of Prozac. They diagnosed me as bipolar 2. Over the past 3 years I have been pretty
  10. Firstly, I want to say i don’t know English well. I have generally high IQ. My memory and motor coordination was very powerful. I used Prozac for 36 days / 10 mg. While using, i notice some cognitive impairments. I stopped it suddenly after told my doctor. After 20 days, i lost my ‘all’ emotions and movement capabilities. I must try 3 times to write one word properly. I can’t play FPS games now. My emotions and of course sexual desires gone. I think it’s called PSSD. I researched as much as i can but couldn’t find any solid answer. In longec
  11. Hard to believe I have been taking Prozac for 23 years. History of depression, anxiety, and OCD. First diagnosed at 21, but remember being a sad child. I started tapering from 20 mg to 10 mg in January 2015. So far I'm doing pretty good. The anxiety has ramped up a bit but I'm able to manage it fairly well by using meditation, magnesium, herbs and kefir. For so long I've been afraid I couldn't cope with life without taking antidepressants. Then one day I decided being on Prozac for so long was probably not a good thing. It had lost most of its efficacy many years ago. I had gone throu

  13. Hi all. Please help woth some advice. I took a total of 16 20mg pills of Prozac in the course of 1 month for some moderate anxiety - thinking it is an innocent happy pill (10mg/day,then several days with 20mg,then 10 every other day). The first 2 weeks - my symptoms were increased anxiety, up to a level I have never experienced. Then complete insomnia followed. I was so agitated that I could not do a Lego toy/watch a movie. Then a period of apathy followed, with no anxiety. I was still driving/talking to people, eating etc. I am now 2 months after stopping the Prozac. First month: I have
  14. Dear reader, after taking Prozac (40mg) for almost 15 years I started my (maybe) fourth trial to taper...on 5mg crash came and I fell into a horrible condition I never felt before (infernal ruminating, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, irrational thoughts and feelings, paralysed, deper- and derealization, mood swings and a lot of further weird and agonizing symptoms - my life came to stop)...reinstating the drug does not help as before...only a new medication with quetiapine (200mg) brought a little relief. Since the acute phasis in last September 18 -January 19 a wave and window patter

  17. Hey everyone, My name is Abby and I have been off Prozac for 3.5 months now. I'm currently experiencing intense withdrawal and the return of mental states I never thought I'd have to experience again, and I would really like to connect with others who are going through similar during this long, difficult process. Background info: I always had tendencies towards anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder (the Pure-Obsessional variety) since childhood. At 16 these symptoms very rapidly became so severe my whole life fell apart within a matter of days (Going on

    Re39: Hi

Hi, im Re.. and this is my story.. Im 39. I was assistant to CEO for 10 years. Had think-tank business with my friends about 2-3 years ago. Last week i signed papers to delegate my job to my business partners, as it hard for me to think in proper anymore, and this year get worst (hard to recalled/exact words or database from my brain). Im on benzos & ssri for 14 years and counting.. My presc. meds per day are: 2mg xanax, 2mg estazolam, 10mg prozac (first 20mg yrs ago, forgot what year, been a year really hard to recalled specific memory). Around first 2-3 years, I never mi
  19. Hello, I've read most of the intro topics and am ready to properly begin my own tapering journey. I have been on some form of SSRI since 2001. I trialed with celexa and paxil and eventually settled on Effexor XR for a number of years. Because it was so expensive, I asked my PCP to consider an alternative and we switched to Prozac in 2006, which increased bit by bit to settle in at 40 mg. In 2010, after a major depressive episode, 300 mg wellbutrin was added. In spring of 2019, I ran out of wellbutrin during a holiday weekend, didn't experience ill effects, so just never refilled
  20. Hello everyone! I am a new user here. I've lurked around this site before but have yet to introduce myself. I was a Prozac user for a year from August 2015 - September 2016. I had taken it for social and general anxiety. I was on 20mg/day. Initially, I was actually doing fine and great emotionally but had side effects like massive fatigue everyday (not even 3 cups of coffee could wake me up!) and constipation every time I went to poop (sorry for TMI). I also felt like a zombie for a brief period in which I was neither happy nor sad. In May 2016, I decided to abruptly stop taking
  21. I tapered of Prozac in early 2014. I tapered over 4 weeks by taking every other day so basically ct. I had taken Prozac for 17 years for anxiety and depression. It took almost 4 months to get very bad by which time Drs had prescribed me sertraline and citralopram both of which exacerbated things tremendously. I only took a single dose of each. It never occurred to me or Drs to put me back of Prozac and by this time I was too terrified to take anything. The last 3 years have been horrific, losing my husband, my health and my income. I was unable to work for 2 years and now work part t
  22. Hey all! New to this community. Just wanted to say I really appreciate the moderators and members of this site for providing me valuable information in the past and giving an often overlooked group of sufferers a place to heal and learn. Just a little bit about myself; I am a 19 year old freshman at Johns Hopkins University. The academic pressures at a school like mine are intense. I was someone who breezed through HS and never doubted my abilities as a student. I began suffering from panic disorder in October, related not to my studies, but from a feeling of hypochondria
  23. Link to father's topic: paranoidandroid Hello everyone, Iv'e actually been looking at this site for quite a while now to get me through and decided to make an account now I feel in a slightly better place to do so. Currently I'd just like peoples opinions on my situation.. do you think I'll ever fully recover? My history in the signature sums it up quite concisely so if you want to ask any questions please do. I believe I will but I just want to hear it from other people, as you may know this can be a lonely place to be. I wasn't aware for all this time how damaging these drug

  25. Hey Everyone, I'm sorry if this gets long, it's been a very hard journey that I know yall will understand. I'm really hoping to get some sort of help or insight if the road I'm currently on is causing more harm than good. Back in 2009, I started taking Lexapro (escitalopram) 10 mg for very mild depression and anxiety. I began my career as a graphic designer in 2008 and the working environment was a bit stressful and I didnt adapt very well leading to more anxiety than usual. After speaking with my doctor, we felt it was a good idea to go on a low dose of lexapro. After a month or so, I sta
