  1. Hi all, I saw an acupuncturist for the first time yesterday, and she prescribed me some chinese herbs and told me to stop taking all my other medication including vitamins. I was surprised she told me to do this so quickly - I guess I was expecting she would treat me for a while before considering going off the meds. It also seems potentially unwise since usually you taper off of these things (I am only on 15mg of remeron so it wouldn't be much a taper, but she didn't actually ask me my dosage). She told me that I won't need the remeron anymore because I will have the chinese medicine and
  2. Hello, I am currently experiencing significant PTSD after a very traumatic life event. I started 12.5 mg trazedone 1 week ago. It allowed sleep - I thought I could take it as needed but I am wrong. I also tried 3.75 mg Remeron which I was on several years ago. Anyway, I feel so agitated in the morning after spotty sleep. Is it too late to do a quick taper. I've read about the mcpp metabolite and am scared to make things worse. I am barely staying out of our local stress center. Should I switch over to the Remeron, get stable then taper off of that or stay on the 12.5 mg trazedone. Four
  3. Hi. My story is a bit complicated, sorry. Much of it is about Klonopin, but my main problems currently seem to be a result of Remeron (Mirtzapine) and a drastic forced reduction of the Klonopin 4 months ago. I apologize if this is the wrong place to discuss Klonopin (chlonazepam). I'm 62. My overall diagnosis for the past 7 yrs is Fibromyalgia. I took 1.0 g Klonopin every night for several years for RLS, and it didn't seem to hurt me in any way. Occasionally my dr increased that dosage, as it is addictive - but I kept insisting on tapering down again. Sometimes I went down to .5 per night
  4. My first post here... I have been taking Remeron (Mirtazapine) for 16 years. I tried to come off of it in October, but I weaned too fast and have had problems ever since. I tried to taper off of 15 mg. I ignored my doctor's fast tapering plan and tapered from 15 mg. to 10 mg. The first part of the month was fine, but then a delayed withdrawal hit with horrible symptoms including insomnia. At that point I was only sleeping about 4 hours a night. I reinstated so that I could continue to work... back to 15 mg. In hindsight I realized now I shouldn't have been changing doses so fast. After
  5. Have been on this stuff for only six months... 60mg Mirtazipene (in doses raised from 15mg. In 15 mg. increments) and 50 mg Serequol. I want off, but am aware that this stuff mucks up your brain. Temporararily or permanently? I am 81...what hope have I at this stage of life? I could cheerfully murder the psych who put me on these and now that I'm so much more informed re both depression and the meds... Help!
  6. Used Remeron for a couple of months, and was weirdly content at all times, but also zombie/lethargic/sedated, and it increases my adhd symptoms/stops mt adhd meds from working. Meh, ill write more later. Been lurking on this forum after my first taper attemt was to impatiemt, and backfired after 2-3 weeks. Got a sore throat todat, and feeling a bit sick, not sure if it is from tapering or if I'm actually getting a cold. Feel sick from time to time, that is probably due to cutting Remeron from 7,5 mg to half of that. Was on 7,5 (from 15) for 3 or 4 weeks, and it was fine, except that
  7. Hi, Following a rapid (lesson learned) taper from Mirtazapine approx 5 months ago, I have been suffering from persistent Akathisia. This has been by far the most horrendous and distressing of a long line of side effects. It appeared 5 weeks after coming off meds and appeared to subside and become less intense, thus some quality of life returned. Over the last couple of weeks it has intensified and I am once again in its awful grip, constantly pacing, crying, feeling agitated with a return of those terrible feelings of grief and despair. I have seen three different doctors, none of w

HI all, I am new here! I am Dan My signature sais it all but basically I am here for support to taper remeron. I have only been on it for about 3 weeks to help with insonia from benzo withdrawl. I seriosuly thinking it is making things worse with my head so I want to taper to half of 7.5. As of now I am on around 7.0. I have a sesitive scale so I could use your advice. I will also read the forum here for info. Thanks for having me! Dan-
  9. Hi, I was prescribed mirtazapine 15mg and took my first dose on Friday night. Sadly I had a very adverse reaction and was hallucinating so was advised to discontinue immediately. I have not taken another tablet and the doctor said it would be out of my system in a few days without anymore problems, it is now Tuesday and I keep getting a prickly, itchy feeling on random patches of my body, arms, legs, back and torso in particular. I thought it was the tablet still in my system but it only started yesterday and seems to be getting worse, I know it sounds crazy but is it possible th
  10. Hi from Oz, I recently got real fed up with the amount of tablets I was taking. I looked at them and thought... Which one is the least needed... Mirtazapine was my choice. I've been on 15mcg nightly for well over a year now and it was given to help with my elevated anxiety and crap sleep. I'm also on pristiq many years now. Well, 3 weeks ago, I stopped it cold turkey... Felt fine, felt great, no worries whatsoever. About one week later I started itching like mad, I thought... Bug bites, scabies, bed bugs, fleas. I would feel the itch, scratch it and bang, big itchy mozzie like lumps would form

***Moved from Tips for Tapering Lexapro*** I know this thread is old, but I have a question a little different than what I'm reading. Everyone is different, and I am thankful for the experience I'm having although I have questions. I realize there are people on this thread who have struggled more. I took Lexapro for less than 6 months in 2009. I quit cold turkey - I had no idea that there was a withdrawal effect. PCP didn't tell me, which I'm learning is a theme. My withdrawal didn't last long, maybe a month, gradually getting better over that time. My major sign was the brain z
  12. Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum. So I was on Abilify back in May for 3 weeks and then I went off of it. Everything went down hill so I went back on it for 3 more weeks then went off of it. It's been a month since my last dose. I wake up every morning crying for no reason. And feeling depressed for no reason. Is there anything I can do to help the healing process? I'm feeling really hopeless. PS I was on 2mg
  13. Hello. I've heard many good things about this site. I'm finding Remeron to be a tricky little devil. I tapered from 7.5 down to 5.0 mg too quick...like 3 weeks! I thought I could sail off it like I did Valium and Trazadone, but not so. I'm taking a break for a week or two so I can stabilize. I generally stabilize rather quickly, but this one took more time. I have friends who are suffering from protracted w/d after decent tapers from Remeron, so I'd like to avoid the same. Has anyone crossed from Remeron to Prozac since the latter has a longer half-life and might be easier to tape
  14. Hi, my name is Trevor, I'm 28 years old and I have been recovering from Remeron withdrawal for a while now. I took 15mg Remeron for 7 years and every time I tried to stop taking it I experienced debilitating insomnia that would last for weeks til I just couldn't take it any more and went back on the medication. Finally I decided it was time to kick this drug for good and started out by reducing my dose to 7.5 mg for a few months, then I started the long process of slow reduction using the liquid titration method. I spent 5 months reducing from 7.5 mg to 0 and by the time I got down to 2 mg I w
  15. Hello everyone, I have been reading many posts regarding Remeron/ Mirtazapine in the last few weeks. I found the information very helpful. I wish I had found this site earlier... I started taking 4mg of Ativan and 30mg of Remeron in February of 2014. In May 2014, I reduced Ativan from 4 to 3mg overnight. Was unaware of proper tapering technique, felt terrible side effects from 25% reduction. After becoming familiar with the Ashton manual, started a crossover taper 3mg Ativan to 30mg Valium in August 2014. Completed a slow taper on May 19 2016. Benzo free as of today, but still on 30mg of
  16. Hoping someone can help I have recently been prescribed Mirtazapine which I believe has increased my anxiety, I tremble inside through my whole body. I have been on many many different AD's all with terrible side effects. I'm too scared to taper off slowly as the anxiety is out of control and my dr told me to take Valium to counteract the anxiety. Very stressed and anxious would love to hear from someone who has experienced this anxiety side effect from Mirtazapine
  17. Hi I started withdrawing from mirtazapine 15mg at the end of March 2016, reducing by 5% every two weeks. I've been grinding the tablets and making a liquid. Now down to 11mg but the last couple of weeks have been feeling extremely tired and unmotivated and very low and anxious. I'm not sure whether just to go back up to 15mg and stabilise on that dose again and then try withdrawing again in a few months time? Thanks
  18. Hi guys, Have had a lot of problems with tapering of mirtazapine. Finally got my head around fact that I need to do it slowly. But unsure as to what is a stable dose? Was on 7.5mg then went to 5.75 which did not work out. So went back to 7.5 and don't feel any better on that dose. Do I stick it out at 7.5 or perhaps go higher to 10 or 15mg. Any suggestions?
  19. Starting withdrawal of Remeron from 30mg after taking for 9 months. Remaining on Effexor XR 300mg, Wellbutrin 300mg, and others. Have felt like parts of my head, face, and neck have seized up (like muscular stiffness) off and on over last few months. For the longest while thought it was psychosomatic. Then noticed I hadn't felt these sensations prior to Remeron, and that there were not thoughts or emotion associated with the tension spells. Subsequently, I have begun to suspect Remeron as possible culprit. Intend to withdraw slowly and keep a journal. Also intend to work with psy
  20. Link to: Santino's success story topic Dear friends. I am right now in a very big of a situation. My second daughter is coming into this world due in two weeks and i am as much as a wreck as evere. I had used xanax for on and off very small doses but after two weeks of continuous 0.25 mg usage it seems i got hooked and started to have a lot of anxiety and panic attack. Before that i have had twice problems but i managed to pass them with personal power and sort of other CBT. This time was a bit harder. I Somehow stabilized at start of April on
  21. Hi everyone and thanks for operating this great site. I found it by googling "How to survive antidepressants" -- sardonic LOL I am so angry about these drugs after reading _Anatomy of an Epidemic_ and then reading some people's stories on here. I feel like I dodged a bullet because I hadn't been on meds for that long when I came across that book. I feel sheepish asking for help when a lot of people are so bravely facing getting off of multiple psych meds and I am just dealing with one or two and at low doses. Nevertheless here's my story…I'm a 36 year old woman who has been st
  22. Hi there, I was started on Remeron in July 2015 for sleeping difficulties due to worsening depression due to an abusive relationship. I attempted to cold turkey the Remeron in Nov 2015 and was up for 7 days. I was also experienced flu-like symptoms, severe anxiety and intense fear. I had to restart the Remeron per my MD suggestion. I was doing ok for a couple months but still battling with depression. By Feb 2016 I had sought out an intensive outpatient program for treatment. I was told it was ok to tape my Remeron AND Lexapro (I have been on an SSRI for 20 yrs, Prozac first, t

Hi I am new to the forum and only just getting to grips with the damage that AD s have wreaked on my life. I took Effexor and Mirtazapine, AKA Californian rocket fuel, for nearly fifteen years before deciding to come of the Effexor. About one month after my much too quick taper....150 mg to 0 in six weeks. I started having dreadful symptoms..nausea, vomiting, weight loss, feeling that my essence had been completely taken away from me. I put some of this down to a successful chemo I had undertaken the previous year. I am now certain it was the withdrawal from Effexor. I was presenting a
  24. I’m new to this website/forum, but I’ve been researching and finding great information about people getting off their psychiatric medication. I’m 46, and I was 20 years old in college when I experienced my first full blown panic attack (official diagnosis, panic disorder without agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, depression). Looking back (after lots of therapy), I can now understand the stress I was under at that time. But the main point is that I was put on zoloft and lorazepam which, combined with lots of “social drinking” seemed to put a lockdown on the panic attacks (though I woul
  25. I'm 45 years old. I have been on psychiatric drugs since I was 25. For years, 17, I was on Paxil 20mg and tegretol 200mg. I believed I tripped off my first depression after using ecstasy, which I think altered my brain's serotonin functioning. Four years ago I went to my gynecologist seeking help for worsening pms, as I believed perimenopause was coming into play. I failed to consult with my psychiatrist and trusted her. After a too-quick taper off of Paxil and onto Lexapro things just completely deteriorated. After 6 months I was a wreck, did another, even shorter, taper off of Lexapro back
