    Neverending13

Hi all! I've been lurking for two years following a slow measured taper and really excelling until February '16 when I assumed my tapers had caught up with me and I was hit with anxiety and panic accompanied with nice muscle twitches, tremors and spasms. I'd awaken early with cortisol mornings, sweats and the other lovely physical symptoms of anxiety and panic. I, like many others, have never experienced these and mistook the panic attacks for anything I could find. Being a 48 year old female doctors and friends all want to blame this on menopause, but I know better and so do you. =) O
  2. I have been taking effexor for almost 15 years. I was on a very high dosage, 450 mg for a long time and 650 mg for a few weeks. But I managed to taper it down to 150 mg a day. Then I wanted to stop taking effexor completely because soon in the future I want to have a baby and breastfeed. With a GP's advice, I reduced the dosage by 37.5 mg every two weeks, until, about 3 weeks ago, I stopped fully. The result has been hell. The first week and a half, I had the usual withdrawal symptoms like nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, horrid nightmares, insomnia, mood swings, anger etc. I stuck it ou
  3. Hi Everyone, I'm new here so thought I'd introduce myself. I've been on the mental health journey since 2007, offically diagnosed with Major Depression. I've never really had any formal triggers that get me down and naturally the symptoms of depression I battle with are usually more physical, but can be thought related too (tired, poor memory, poor concentration, can't be bothered with anything, guilt etc.). I was started on Lexapro in 2011 at 10mg and then increased a few months later to 20mg, I don't remember building up gradually or any side effects of the bump up in dose.
  4. I have been on Effexor for 6 years. Since my stroke may 2010. I started weaning my self off about 3 months ago. Finally 2 weeks ago. I was able to stop taking them completely. My issue is I still feel like crap. Depressed. Brain fog. (Granted I had a stroke so this may just be the norm). I don't sleep. I have rls bad. I also have been on norco for that many years or more. Been attempting to get off of them every month. Now my doc says I am not taking them. Like I am selling them or something. What?!? I take at least 2 a day. I must also say I have a pretty stressful life with my fa
  5. Hi all, My signature basically sums it all up. I am experiencing terrible withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing 150mg Effexor XR. I wish that my psychiatrists had told me about discontinuation syndrome before they pushed these drugs on me. I am wondering when the discontinuation symptoms will go away. The symptoms are severely affecting my ability to work, and I cannot afford to lose my job. I REFUSE to go back on the drug. I would rather die than start this process all over again. The drugs never did anything to improve my mood and simply made orgasms impossible for the last
  6. I really could use some advice I am not sure if what I am experiencing is from Effexor withdrawal or not. I was on 150mg for a few years I have been slowly tapering down for several months now (weighing beads on a micro scale for accuracy) on Friday 22nd I took my last dose which was 0.124g of beads (so very little actual drug). For months now I've had severe dizziness and nausea, and diarrhea too. Enough to keep me in bed a lot. Plus a strange sensation on the tip of my tongue. Now it's pretty much just dizziness but it's so bad. Previously when I was down to 0.5g of weighed beads I decide
  7. Hi guys. I've just started tapering off Efexor XR 75mg tablets once a day. I've been reducing the beads by 1 every two days. For e.g. I take out one tablet today, one tomorrow, then two beads on the third day, two on the fourth, three on the fifth, etc. I have been experiencing withdrawal symptoms of sore eyes, (I do wear glasses), become very tired and have to take a nap half way through my day, brain fog, flu like symptoms such as slight runny nose, cough. I was wondering, and read somewhere previously that there are other things to take while on the taper to help. I was wondering if anyone
  8. How can I build of the best? Now I've cut my pil in half and have no severe side effects. What should be the next step? And is there anyone there who als went of this dose. My dokter said it wasn't a high dose, but i don't see much people with my dose on internet. With love
  9. Thank you so much for being here. My life is now a nightmare. People around me think I'm doing fine but living in my head and heart since I went off Effexor XR has been increasingly a complete nightmare for me. I was on 225 mg Effexor XR for 11 years. I'm 65 and creative and decided I wanted to be free of this drug so I could be fully myself and not feel that revved-up feeling I always had from the drug. I felt like the drug was a cage that protected me but it also felt like a prison and I wanted to give myself freedom as a gift for the rest of my life. I now know that the 'gradual' withdrawal
  10. New here, so will hope to fill in fuller history later. I am 71 and have had depression to varying degrees 1977 to date. Managed to work full time 1964-2001, though. 12 years on irregular shift pattern 1964-1977. Last month, went to new younger GP who arranged blood tests, (after I had given him my list of ill-health symptoms!) Blood, mostly OK, but indicated low folic acid, he said. I am on 5mg daily folic acid tab for last 5 weeks. I do feel better (carrying out lots of small projects in my retirement). Had so many ups and downs in last 40 years, though, that I think this may b
  11. I have been on antidepressants for 20 years (since my mid-twenties), but recently--over the past five years or so--was put on an "aggressive" cocktail of drugs. After trials of zoloft, wellbutrin, effexor, serzone and abilify my psychiatrist settled on a combination of serzone, effexor and abilify. I was also taking adderall for general fatigue and inability to concentrate through all of the anxiety and depression, as well as ambien to allow me to sleep. At the time that I began this cocktail, I had a high stress job and I was finding it more and more difficult to cope with the pressure ea
  12. So thankful to find this group! Will you please tell me what dosage of Effexor XR to reinstate with? I've been off since April. Someone who is holistic minded, but not a psychiatrist, suggested that I reinstate at 37.5. I did take it yesterday and now reading the posts, it may be too high. She said to see how I'm feeling today. (Diarrhea has begun now ...and still very depressed, paranoia and anxiety.). She suggested one of three things. 1) Take another 37.5---(2) skip a day ---(3) take 1/2 of the 37.5. I'm not functioning well and in bed most of the time. I don't know what to do. Thank yo
  13. Hi guys I just wanted to start by saying thank you so much for putting this site together. I can't begin to tell you how much it has helped and educated me in a short time. Im roughly 23 weeks cold turkey from 37.5mg effexor, I was on that for maybe 5 years before that 75mg for roughly 12 years. I don't have any medical history records available and can't remember the exact times because my memory is so screwed. I honestly could be years off when estimating the dosage changes. I stopped cold turkey because I initially forgot to take it and didn't feel as though it was of any therapeutic
  14. Mine is a very complicated long story which I don't have time now to go into detail about but I had decided to hold and stabilise for a while after a horrible experience with Seroxat last summer - small reduction, massive crash. I'm currently on 12mg. I'm also on Venlafaxine (another long story, how I ended up on 2) and recently (against my better judgement) was persuaded by my psych to try a drop of 37.5mg from 112.5mg as the Venlafaxine XR doses don't come in anything smaller. I ended up v low, not sleeping, anxiety etc - all the usuals, so went back up 8 weeks ago. I stabilised fairly quick
  15. Hi, i am just wondering if I have left it too late to stop taking venlafaxine. I have been on ads for 20 years, however no gp has ever mentioned long term side effects. I have recently read a lot of info about these meds that worries me, also they dont seem to be as effective as they once were. I am worried about permenant brain damage, is it possible to have a complete recovery after taking these meds for so long.
  16. Hi I am currently on Venlafaxine XR ( 150 mg ) and have decided to reduce my dose as feel in a stable place to try. Me and my doctor decided to taper down using 37.5 mg XL tablets as this is the smallest dose they do. Anyway I had very bad withdrawl symptoms which began after about 1.5 days after dropping the dos by 37.5 mg After about 9 weeks and still suffering from withdrawls I went back up to my normal 150 mg XL dose which helped. My question is how do I withdraw any less that 37.5 mg as this is the smallest tablet and I believe you are not able to cut the XR version of venla
  17. Hi, all. I've been tapering off Effexor XR for the past month. My psychiatrist and I decided together that, after 12 years, Effexor was no longer working for me. She set me up on the following schedule, down from 150mg: Start: 150 Week 1: 112.5 Week 2: 75 Week 3: 37.5 Week 4: Completely off The taper hasn't been going well at all, so she decided to let me have two weeks between reductions. It's helping a little, but not much. After this last taper (to 37.5mg), it's been a nightmare. I can deal with the dizziness, brain zaps, and shakiness, but the constant mood swings are horrible.
  18. Hi guys. My name is Jure and I'm about to start my very first proper taper after being on 75mg Effexor for 9 years. I didn't take the meds properly at the start so I was experiencing all sorts of symptoms, most notably brain zaps. I was 19 at the time. I then took them seriously for a bit and then tried to taper off. The doctor advising me to take 37.5mg for a month and that's it. That sent me mad and I was back on the 75mg the next day. I think was about 23 at the time. I have now been taking 75mg for a good 6 years. I've been feeling great, started exercising, getting really fit and strong
  19. I took 300mg Effexor XR and clonazepam for somewhere around 10-15 years, then since 2010 I've successfully tapered/reduced a bunch of it: 2010-2011 - Tapered Clonazepam/Klonopin gradually from 200mcg/day to ZERO 2012 March - Dropped Effexor XR from 300mg/day down to 150mg/day 2012 October-2013 February - Tapered Neurontin from 2400mg/day to 800mg/day 2013 March 4 - Tapered Effexor XR to 131.25mg 2013 March 27 - Tapered Effexor XR to 112.5mg 2013 April 16 - Tapered Effexor XR to 93.75mg 2013 April 21 - Tapered Effexor XR to 87.5mg 2013 June 22 - Tapered Effexor XR to 75mg At that point I
  20. Good Morning, I was searching online this morning to come across anything to help with this detox I am going through from Effexor. I have only been on it a year and 2 months. The first few months getting the dosage correct was hell! My doctor said it was best to stay on it for at least a year. I have since dealt with the issue that started the uncontrollable panic and anxiety so I figured I was ready to come off. I really want to start a family. I am currently on day 4 without any meds. Anyone else have any tips on how to get through this. I know its rough, I have done it before and surv
  21. Newbie here I have just been told y my doctor to come off Effexor, due to persistent high blood pressure. I have been on these meds for over 3 years and have kept me on an even keel, in the main. I am on 75mg, twice a day, tablet form My doctor has prescribed Sertraline as a replacement. She wants me to come off Effexor as soon as possible. I am aware of the adverse reaction to coming off these meds. My doctor expects me to drop off these in a month's time. Any one able to chime in with a safe regime for this cross taper? I would rather take a lot longer Many thanks Ashs
  22. Well my signature will tell you most, but I found this site as I was searching for how to wean off of my antidepressants. I read quite a bit all over on this site and found out that I need to start with 10% reduction. And I am also going to get a scale to help in my reduction of the effexor, money going towards my health. I tried going off the wellbutrin once and I became seriously depressed so had to go back on it. I thought it would be easier to start with that one since it was so low, but did not realise as I read on here that it is a slow release one and I need to change to anoth
  23. Tapering Effexor. Jumped benzo's 6 months ago. Two weeks ago I hit a hard wall at 18mg effexor and have scrambled back up to 30mg. I'm barely non-functional. sx are a combination of benzo (muscle spasm/cramps) and AD sx (zap). I can write clearly only because it's the PM. In the AM... I am a mute tortured potato. I know I have violated 3s's. 1) Not Slow. 37.5 to 18 is way too fast. I was fooled by ease of 300 to 37.5 over 4 months (%50 reductions) and maybe confused by immediate release. Things are blurry. 2) Not Simple. After benzo withdrawal I deserve a break. I really didn't i
  24. Do/did you have depression as wd symptom? Sometimes I'm in an extremely bad mood and very exhausted - it is in fact very similar to my original depression. It always gets better in the evening.
