  2. Hi everyone, After many months of reading and gaining some hope and encouragement from the stories here I decided to join your great forum. Sorry, but this is a very long story. Im a 39 year old male from Australia and I have been taking ssri’s for GAD for the last 10 years. I started on Paxil 20mg for around 18 months and was switched to lexapro 10mg due to weight gain, sexual dysfunction and fatigue. Lexapro was a little better but I really didn’t feel like it was doing much apart from keeping the weight up and the motivation down. I am 6’2 and was alwa
  3. Hi Everyone, Sorry about any misspellings or rambling/fragmented sentences. I'm in the middle of a wave of high anxiety with severe insomnia. I figured it was time to give this a shot. I've been on and off Lexapro since 2014, mostly on. I had never taken a medication my whole life, barely took headache meds. Very active my whole life. I had flare ups of anxiety since I was a young child but I never knew what it was and just powered through. I'd always distract myself by working out, running, video games, etc. In 2012 my four year old son
  4. Hey guys, I want to tell you my story. At the moment I am doing very bad. I have very severe anxiety and I don't have any idea on what to do. Let me tell you my story first. I was on Lexapro from January 2019 untill August 2019. I was also on Wellbutrin from May 2019 until August 2019. Although I was doing quite well I for some reason wanted to get off those medications. I tapered the Lexapro from 10mg to 2,5mg over the span of I would say 2-3 months (I am not exactly sure). I was decreasing with 2,5mg at a time. At the time I didn't know that this w
  5. Admin note: link to benzo forum thread - Blondiee1915: Xanax taper. Need help Hi all . I was on SSRI for 9 years (mostly lexapro) with some small breaks in between. I withdrew fully (don't believe I did it slowly) in July and now 3 months later I am experiencing intense symptoms that became disabling at times . I was initially prescribed lexapro in college for panic attacks and general anxiety . Physical symptoms compared to emotional were not bad for me at all . Now 3 months later my fatigue intensified. I am constantly exhausted no matter how much I sleep . I feel detached and di
  6. Hello- as my topic title shows, I have been on anti-depressants for 24 years (20mgs Lexepro, 175 mgs Wellbutrin). It is hard to face. After the birth of my first son, I began having acute anxiety. When I told my gynecologist he told me it was common after giving birth because of hormonal changes. In such cases, he recommends about six months of medication to help with the symptoms and recommended a psychiatrist that he works with for patients such as me. I'm sure none of you are surprised to know that, as is all too common, I never got off the drugs for very long. Each time withdrawel symptoms
  7. I have been on escitalopram for eight years and started to taper in february 2020. I started 1 mg per month and when six months had passed I was at 1 mg but I decided to raise it to 2.5 mg because I thought I was going to die. Now I have been on this same dose for 6 months. I had almost 1,5 months good feeling but now I am feeling horrible. I get panic attacs during The night and day. My mood seems to change from quite good to absolutely horrible. I just do not know what's going on with me. I have been on The same dose so long and still I get these feelings? Can anyone tell me what this is ? D
  8. Hi, I am new to this side, but unfortunately not new to antidepressants. In 2010 I managed to tapper Effexor, which took me more than two years. I made a terrible mistake and around 2 months ago I have started taking escitalopram. I was fulled by a psychiatrist that this is a safest antidepressant, which does not cause any side effects. I have also been on low dose of Doxepin at night to prevent migraines (this has been for over 2 years, but never caused any major problems...) I started on 5mg of escitalopram and I was ok on this, my anxiety stopped, I slept better, etc. Two weeks ago I inc
  9. Hi guys, Figured i'd join this community for support and to support others. For a bit of background I was prescribed Escitalopram for OCD in early March this year. (Tried regular citalopram first but it was gross and refused to take a second pill) Worked my way up to 15mg of escitalopram by the fourth month. The whole time i was wary of being on them and wanted to get off sooner rather than later, always felt like they were bad news but was essentially out of options. Over this time period I worked extremely hard in therapy/ERP and made a lot of progress wit
  10. Moderator Note: link to Moonpie's benzo thread - Moonpie: Need help Ativan weight tapering My name is Moonpie. I feel so blessed to have found this site. I was put on Ativan and BuSpar and Lexapro, one at a time for a medication thyroid mess up. For eight months my thyroid was going crazy in my anxiety was off the charts. It normalized in March and I am trying to take her off the Ativan. I'm extremely sensitive to it. I just realized I have been doing a 5 per cent reduction instead of 10 and I have still had withdrawl symptoms! I am using a file and a jeweler scale. My t
  11. Hi, I am 67 year old male and have been on antidepressants since the mid 1990s (for low mood and anxiety): - Prozac 15mg until November 2016. - I wasn’t sleeping well so GP changed me to Mirtazapine 15mg (Nov 16) which worked for sleep but gradually increased anxiety to distressing and unacceptable levels (also low mood). I tried one slow taper in 2018 but sleep was immediately an issue. - GP recently changed me (I was very unsure about it) to Lexapro 10mg (straight swop, no tapers). - The swop has caused more anxiety and as the Lexapro is starting to work I can feel
  12. Hi I’m new to this site. I’ve learned so much from this forum already. I had a brief bout with Clonazepan late 2019 and in ignorance CT’d. Tgat led me to glee to a BC Recovery Centre who put me into Nozinan (anti psychotic) abd Gabapentin to help deal with massive Benzo withdrawal. They stabilized me but said zero about coming off the drugs they gave me. I FT’d the Anti Psychitic on the advice of my doctor. Hell ensued. Extreme nerve pain in my teeth. Psychiatrist at leading mental hospital suggested a ramp up on my Gabapentin (I was at 100mg). I went to 1200mg but it did not help my mouth pai
  13. I was on 40 mgs Lexapro. started on 20 mgs then increased over 5 years. Have been on various antidepressants for over 20 years. Seeing a Homeopath and trialing remedies. Told by Psychiatrist reduce 20 mgs a week. Frightened by all withdrawal horror stories. Have to work to pay mortgage. Suffering from discontinuation Syndrome. -suicidal thoughts - brain fog - anxiety - panic attacks -stomach upsets - debilitating lack of concentration - constant fear of living My family are supporting me Dont want to go back on me
  14. Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and figured I’d ask some questions and describe my situation. I started on 3/16 taking Lexapro 5 mg once daily. Didn’t experience any issues at all for the first week (8 days) and then doctor bumped me to 10mg daily. This past week I started to get a numbing/vibrating sensation around the head of my genitals (trying to be proper here) I’ve never had any issues in this area at 44 and I’ve placed a call to my doctor. The medication has seemed to help, however there is no way I can tolerate that feeling and my concern is that this is now permanent? If I taper dow
  15. Hello all, I am fairly new this forum. Im a 35 yo female living in Singapore, currently Im facing challenges on tapering off Lexapro. back story : I was prescribed a mixture of medicines in October 2017 for GAD. Back then I have never think of anything wrong with it as I trusted my psychiatrist (BIG horrible mistake). My mixture is listed below : amytriphiline 7 mg frixitas (alprazolam) 0.25 mg lexapro (cipralex) 10 mg I took it as prescribe without even knowing the dangers of coming off these devils. in A
  16. Hi all, In 2013 I received the diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder when I started having therapy for the first time in my life - I was 23 then. I've been anxious through my teens and early adulthood, and also suffered from bouts of low mood, but did not think much of it - I thought it was just how I was. In 2013 because I was at a particularly bad phase in college, I went to a psychiatrist through which I started taking 20mg Lexapro (I take the generic - Escitalopram). Everything improved a lot. Anxiety greatly reduced, mood also better, more drive to do stuff. And basical
  17. Basically I have been on and off antidepressants for 15 years. But, the last 3 1/2 years have been on them constantly. I have tried to get off two times (within a 6 week period) and after about 6 weeks it was way worse than before. So I got back on. I'm so glad to have found this site...because I have hope that I can actually get off Lexapro for good this time! This site is hard for me to navigate...but I'm learning.
  18. Hi I’m new here! Lexapro’s side effects were not worth it for me so I added Wellbutrin and although the combination therapy felt kind of perfect, I never intended to be on two meds so I decided to taper off of Escitalopram. A week after last dose, I feel intense panic and fear, a bit out of body, not to mention all the physical symptoms. It is so scary that I’m reevaluating everything. Dr recommends starting Esc. 5mg and tapering more slowly. I don’t know if I should start withdrawal over because I don’t want to go through the hell of the last two days all over again. Any advice on your e
  19. After reading many many people's experiences of coming off lexapro, I haven't come across any instances where someone was taking such a small dose as me, for such a short period of time as me, and having severe symptoms like mine. I took 2.5 mg lexapro for around 2 months and saw no improvement. I had pretty severe initial side effects such as inability to focus, depersonalization, fatigue and poor quality of sleep. During this time I picked up juuling again (nicotine device) to get through this hell while somewhat keeping up with school. These side effects went away, but I felt as if I was ju
  20. I go by Jacq/DemonOfSarila/Sarila/she/her. Currently taking: 10mg Lexapro (escitalopram) & 50mg Trazodone & tracking them in a google spreadsheet Starting dose: 20mg Lexapro & 100mg Trazodone Taper started: July 2020 Max dose: 20mg Lexapro & 150mg Trazodone Meds started: 2014 Anyway, as far as detailed history, I guess let's start at the very beginning? Issues with depression symptoms started in high school, some time 2002-2006. Major depressive episode in 2014, about March to November. Saw a few doctors, tried a few pills an
  21. Hello, I need some recommendation for my tapering. Here is my background At 15, i had a massive burn-out and was prescribed antidepressants. I am today 23 and have been on antidepressants almost without interruption. I don't remember all the different antidepressants I was on. I know it did help when i was in emergency situation (extreme anxiety and depression) but it was not satisfactory either, that's why i always had the intention to stop. I quit Effexor once and Brintellix once without a very long taper and didn't feel any major WD symptoms, except that my depression and anxiety (tha
  22. Have been on antidepressants since 1990s. I would go to my PCP and tell them what I wanted to try next. Over the years I have been on prozac, paxil, and now the cocktail I want to taper from. Tried to taper in past but gave up quickly thinking there would be a better time. And May 2019 was it. Started to taper from wellbutrin and lexapro ‘cocktail’ under guidance of PCP. She put me on a 2 year taper. In March was down to 150 mg wellbutrin every 4 days. Crashed with current homebound routine. So she suggested I go to every 3 days and wait for the pandemic to ease up before resuming taper. Is it
  23. This maybe long and confusing since I'm typing from my phone but I feel like I'm living in pure hell. Backstory- I'm a 30 year old single mother of two. I had my first anxiety attack when I was 11. Doctor prescribed me xanax as needed and I attended counseling on and off. I remember having panic attacks on and off my whole life. I honestly can't remember when I was first prescribed an antidepressant. Last year in july I decided I was done with the pills and the side effects so I did a taper and stopped, I was on lexapro. I remember coming on here when I was having a bad day and re
  24. Moderator note: link to benzo thread - Nolongeranxiousbut: lexapro/klonopin which to taper... see pdoc tomorrow hi all, I'm a new member. I had a medical incident (still dealing with but a lot has gotten better) that caused anxiety and insomnia back in October. Things got worse and I started medicines with a psychiatrist Jan 2nd for the first time. Was started on klonopin and Lexapro. Tapered lexapro two weeks up to 10mg. Klonopin was also increased to try and help with sleep up to 1.125 mg a day - 1 mg at night and .125 in the morning. Didn't help sleeping
  25. 3 weeks ago I took Lexapro for 4 days and stopped because of the side effects. 3 days ago I tried to start it again thinking that it would not be so problematic. I was wrong. Ridiculous anxiety. While Im never going to do this again - is it ok to just come off of 5mg after 3 days? Thank you
