  1. Hi I has been taking antidepressents for more than a decade, and I want to come off them. Because of the unavailability of smaller doses, I wonder whether it would be safe for me to taper off by taking drug holidays in the following way: For example, I can take a drug holiday for one day every week for 6 months, and then take two day drug holidays every week for the next 6 months, and so on, until I come off completely. That makes 3 years and a half of gradual tapering off. Thank you
  2. Hello everyone, I’m at day four of cold turkey from Effexor 75g, its not much fun but I’m hanging in there. Am i crazy or just stupid for embarking on this journey?
  3. Hi, ive recently been taken off Effexor which I was on for 2 months, I was then on pristiq for 25 days. 3 months in total. I have had a really tough year trialling meds that didn’t help but made everything worse. My psyc told me to stop pristiq cold turkey due to my rapid decline in mental state. the first 6 days where hell with zaps and vertigo and migraines. I still feel dizzy at times and my cognitive function feels like it’s lagging. Now day 10 I have woken with what I thought was a UTI. I went to the doctor and I don’t have a UTI. Upon research based on symptoms I’m con
  4. I'm new around here, kind of. I've dropped in over the years and made a couple GP assisted withdrawal attempts. Back story: During a marital separation in 2000 I had a deep depressive episode, I'm fortunate to be here. I sought counseling which led to psychiatry and being started on Paxil and Ativan. Paxil worked very well, however when my wife and I got back together Paxil's sexual debilitations became apparent prompting a switch to Wellbutrin. I spent a few years on Wellbutrin as the marriage continued to devolve, but had terrible sweating episodes; which led to a switch to Effexor and
  5. I am a 33 year old mother of 3 and it has been 2.5 months since my last dose of escitalopram. So many downs with a few ups. I wake up with extreme anxiety. Fear of death and dying for me and my family. I have so many physical symptoms I feel like a hypochondriac. I've had stomach pain side pain, neck pain, knee pain, and hand pain these go away occasionally and then come back. Constant fatigue, dizziness, brain zaps, and headaches. My palpitations have calmed down a bit. I am able to sleep I think that is my saving grace though all this. I try to walk 30 minutes on my treadmill most days and t
  6. Hello, Hello I am new to this site. I would specifically like to connect to others tapering from Venaflaxine/ Effexor I have been taking Venaflaxine XL 150mg for 12 years and have decided to start tapering my dose. From reading this site and some others, I've decided to start by tapering by 10% of the last dose that I have taken and hold on the new dose for a month. I am from London and am speaking to my GP who is my prescriber about this in a weeks time. I am sure that my GP does not have any knowledge of bead counting or weighing as I was originally advised to make mu
  7. I’ll try to make a long story short. After about 4 unsuccessful attempts to get off of Effexor (prescribed by my pcp), I switched to a psychiatrist who successfully switched me from 225mg of Effexor to 200mg of Zoloft in about 10 months. I was trying to get pregnant and thought Zoloft would be safer. After about 5 months of just Zoloft, I started getting weird symptoms no one’s been able to explain: lightheadedness, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, irritability, headaches, and worsening depression. 3 months and no answers later, with a worse mental state than I’ve ever had, I went back on 150mg of
  8. Hi. Been on the SSRI/SNRI merry-go-round for 12 years straight without a break. Been on Venlefaxine ER (Effexor) for over 5 years. My psych NP did not know about "slow taper" and so I tried make one on my own. Turns out I tapered too fast and am now in Withdrawal. No psych symptoms but severe electric zaps and bad paresthesia in both arms down to finger tips. Am trying to get an appointment with a new psychiatrist who can maybe put me back on a dose that will stabilize me and then do a very slow taper from there. But the almost constant zaps are driving me c
  9. I took Effexor for 2 years for my anxiety. I was on 150 mg, after 1,5 years it didn’t work anymore. I have still taken it but added many supplements as well which made me feeling better after 2 months. Then I thought to stop with Effexor. I did it in 9 weeks totally. The first steps were not so bad. On 37,5 I was 3 weeks and the first days were difficult but after a few days I began feeling very well. I was 6 weeks Effexor free and after a few days after my last dose I started to feel worse with time. Very anxious, nauseous, insomnia, can’t eat, very nervous all the time. I found the Effexor f
  10. Hi New here been checking out the forums, lots of good info. Been struggling a bit. Refer to sig. Think I've been put on wrong combination of drugs. Looking to go off quetiapine and mirtazapine in that order. Apprehensive about the quetiapine - was one of the two meds that reduced within a week, leading to second admission. That taper was supposed to have been quetiapine 100-50-25-0 with a month at each level. Needless to say that the quetiapine 100-50 drop combined with venlafaxine drop 300-225 (75mg per month till 0) saw me admitted for 5 weeks... So they took me off the venlaf
  11. I have been off of lexapro rapid withdrawal by my psychiatrist since March 29th and the faster heart rate is the most uncomfortable symptom for me, it is in the 100s resting. I took lexapro for a few weeks after being taken off fetzima that I took for a few months and effexor which I was on for a couple of years. When have people noticed their heart get back to normal? I have been checked out and everything seems fine with my heart. Its just fight or flight constantly, maybe? What are others experience with it? Help please.
  12. Hi! Would someone advise me how & when it would be best to reinstate Venlafaxine? I have reduced from 150mg Effexor XR to 75 mg of ordinary Venlafaxine tablets over 12 months. Have been on this for 4 weeks and feeling the effects of W/D.
  13. Hi, im from Brazil, so my english is not very good. Id like to know if anyone ever took two antidepressants togheter. The reason i ask is because im on paroxetine 40mg and venlafaxine 37.5. I have been on paroxetine since 2017 on and off, always trying to quit, but recently i changed the doctor, i was in severe WD from paroxetine,( i CTed from 20 mg, initiali i was taking 40 mg and started lowering dosage and was feeling so good, i was so stupid i couldturkeyd from 20 mg), and he asked me to try venlafaxine, but had no reliefe, made me so anxious, like akathisia. Now i went b
  14. Having successfully, after many years of extraordinary struggle, come off Klonipin, I mistakenly assumed that tapering venlafaxine/Effexor would be a relatively mild and tolerable experience. Instead, it has been horrific. My psychopharmacologist is a decent person, but is not only resistant to the reality of this withdrawal - he actively presumes that withdrawal symptoms reflect recurrence, which I know to be incorrect. I know what “my” anxiety and depression feel like, and I know what withdrawal feels like. This is withdrawal, and it’s brutal. I have four kids and a husband and I am deeply r
  15. Hi all. I am new to this site but I am desperate for advice. my history: I have been on various antidepressants for 10 years (sertraline then escitalopram then venlafaxine). I was on 150mg venlafaxine for about 2 years. I wanted to wean off last April to start a family. On the advice of GP, I went from 150 to 75, waited a month, then to 37.5, waited a month, then every other day, waited a month, then stopped completely. I had no symptoms whatsoever until I started taking the 37.5 every other day, after about 2 weeks I had extreme nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and non st
  16. Hi guys, It's nice to meet you all. I will share a bit about my story. I was prescribed Effexor in 2014 for Anxiety and Depression. I had also never seen a Psychologist or Psychiatrist before 2020, all I ever saw was a Dr once and then the next appointment I was put on medication. Before this I tried Zoloft and Mirtazipine for 8 week stints, which both did nothing for me. When Effexor was prescribed, it worked fairly well. I would still feel anxiety and depression, but in a numb way - a way that I didn't react to. I also hardly ever felt joy on this medication. It's har
  17. Hello, I was not drug free for a long time. I got depressed again a so ended on drugs again. Did not know what else to do. Doing quite poorly now. I have a lot of anxiety and trouble sleeping. Currently, on 50mg sertraline and 25mg agomelatine. Weird thing is that even when I am in a good mood and anxiety is at bay I wont be able to fell asleep. Whenever I feel my brain is slumbering off then "zzap" and I wake up. I think it is the sertraline, that is preventing me from sleep. I'm just in a bad place mentally and cannot try to discontinue the drug as I'd than sp
  18. Hello, I think it best to start a history of how I got here. I was also on antidepressants from 1986 to 1989. Was put back on AD’s in 1997. I was functional for years with periods of remission and periods of depression and anxiety. Single mother, worked, raised two girls, etc. I was on sertraline the longest. Over a period of about 4 years I began to slowly lose interest in socializing and doing things and became increasingly anxious and fearful, lost my confidence. Was bumped back and forth from Sert. 100-150mg a few times then stayed at 150. Was able to remain functional.
  19. Hello everybody, I'm a girl from Europe and I am having some troubles with withdrawal. I started taking Venlafaxine 75mg 10 years ago when I was still very young because of light depression and was pretty quickly upped to 225mg. 5 years ago I first started tapering. Down to 37,5mg in about 1,5 years and then stopped. It was pretty tough but mostly not completely debilitating until around 8 months of stopping when I started having severe insomnia and a lot of other difficult symptoms like DR, akathisia, anxiety (or maybe I should say terror), aches and a lot of othe
  20. I am withdrawing from Effexor it was a brutal withdrawal. My dr put me on Prozac 5 mgs for a few weeks and I stopped the effexor I was down to 25 a day. I’m hoping I can stop the Prozac too but feel awful. Can’t sleep kind of queezy physically not myself. Better tho than the withdrawal from Effexor where I had cold, sore throat, dizziness nausea. I was on the Effexor for over 5 years so I guess tapering off is hard.
  21. my meds ran out a week ago. Ordered more from VA, but they wont be here for another 10 days with holiday mail. going crazy with electric shocks, crying, anxiety, shivering, hands shaking, breathing, and god knows I have COPD too. How do I get off this? Was on 150 mg for 20 years, seemed ok - at least i learned to live with the side effects. in last year VA upped me to 225 and then 300 - Looking at interactions for first time today, they also got me on trazadone (for sleep), gabapentin (for RLS) and now I see they are all connected and create problems. What do I do?
  22. Hello, first of all, excuse me for my English, which is not my language. I’m a 50 years old man, long term SSRI/SNRI user who is trying to survive after a lot of mistakes made with this poisons. First SSRI was prescribed me in 1998: a psychiatrist decided to solve my panic attacks, anxiety and fears to be sick with a 20 mg of paroxetine. My journey with SSRI began: I took paroxetine from 1998 to 2008; then escitalopram from 2008 to 2010; venlafaxine XR from 2011 to 2016. During this period, 3 or 4 times I attempted to stop but after six months free I reinstated the drug; my do

  24. I have a 23 year old non-vocal child (autism, self-injury, mood disorder and agitated catatonia.) Since they cannot tell me about the withdrawal effects they are experiencing I'm reaching out for some help. They have been on 175mg of Zoloft for 3+ years, they have also been experiencing severe periodic limb movements of sleep which I've read can be a side effect of Zoloft. The doc recommended reducing Zoloft by 25mg every two weeks. Within 3 days of reducing the Zoloft my adult child starting have problems with falling asleep and staying asleep as well having short periods of unus
