  1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ORIGINAL TOPIC: Making a Celexa Solution Yourself ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADMIN NOTE: Also see: Tips for Tapering individual drugs listed in Post #1 of this topic: Important topics in the Tapering forum and FAQ _________________________________________________________________________ MOD NOTE: Originally Rhiannon was using a small amount of ethanol to dissolve her Celexa and there was a specific topic for that drug. However, she later changed her method and was successfully dissolving her tablet in water only. That topic has now been merged into this topic and the posts originally in the Celexa topic have a note added at the top of the posts. However, the information provided for Celexa, is also relevant to other drugs which are soluble in water. _________________________________________________________________________ "How To Make Liquid from Tablets or Capsules" - link to the original Post #1 of this topic Making a (Celexa - see mod note above) solution yourself A couple of folks asked me to post here about how I dissolve my Celexa and liquid taper it that way. I use a shot glass and dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water (enough to cover it) and a couple of mLs of ethanol (very pure drinking alcohol, I use "Everclear" type, available at the liquor store.) The tablet doesn't dissolve quickly, so I usually leave it there and come back in about twenty minutes. From the following post (link added later by mod) NB: Rhiannon changed her method of dissolving citalopram. She stopped using ethanol. See above quote. I stir it with the pipette to get the drug to dissolve into the ethanol (citalopram is soluble in ethanol). I don't know how well it actually dissolves but as long as it's mixed well it doesn't really matter. Then I add enough water to bring it up to 20 mL total. I mix it well and then draw up my dose for the day, and then pipette it straight into my mouth followed by a pipette full of water (both to rinse the pipette and to dilute the "shot"!) My current dose is 5.25 mg of citalopram, so given the dilution I'm using (10 mg in 20 mL) I measure 10.5 mL as my daily dose. All of this could be adapted easily to using syringes for measurement instead of a pipette. (And if you are more delicate than me you could measure it into a spoon or cup rather than squirting it straight into your mouth.) But using pipettes is really easy too, very simple to learn and do. I'll be seeing my doctor again some time this summer and like I said elsewhere, I may see about getting the citalopram liquid already made up, but it's a $15 copay and the pills are only $5. And I'm already dissolving and pipetting my other meds anyway so it's not really any particular hassle to do it this way with the citalopram. Personally this is the method I would use to taper any med. I've done the dry cutting method using a scale, and I find liquid titration easier to control. I can get my cuts as small as I want by adjusting the dilution.
  2. Hello! Im suspecting that antidepressant (or maybe any substance) is less potent in liquid than pill form. When i was on Lexapro (Escitalopram) i tried liquid form, the exact same dose, even though this I experienced more anxiety, and my cognitive ability began to increase (that's when I know the dose is lowered, because they screw up my mental ability). Fast forward. Half year ago i wanted to switch to a less potent ssri, so i went for Zoloft. Eventually i tried liquid form. I went from the same manufacturer, from pill to liquid. And also this time i experienced anxiety, panic attacks, increased mental ability. Which tells me that it somehow is less effective, so I went back to pill form Zoloft, then I was alright. Both time, if I recall correctly I mixed these liquids with water, stirred around and then drank it. I would love to have liquid instead of pill form, so i dont have to weigh it, because it is less time consuming with liquid, and less messy. Anyone know if im doing something wrong, or why it is like this?

    Blandell: Paxil

I’m unsure about making my own Paxil liquid despite instructions from ChessieCat...I read somewhere else that to be in a liquid then it must be in a suspension..I want to go down to 9 mg by July 10th. I’ve been looking for more info but haven’t found anything yet.
  4. Hey hi, Just looking to hear from those who have successfully made a liquid solution of venlaflaxine and successfully tapered this way? Am half-way down having converted some of my XR to IM and cut pills but now need to make a liquid form as can't get smaller than 4.5mg odd with the cutter... Cheers!
