marie123: tapering trazodone

I feel that cut of .10 mg four days later. Sleep is worse and achy muscles are back. It's mostly in my right arm/shoulder. I could have stretched the muscles out too much accidentally and withdrawal hit that spot. I find withdrawal seeks out your weak spots. I was reaching for a water bottle in the middle of the night but who knows. It has improved since the morning. Mirt tapering stinks for sure. I'll keep going. Marie.

Hello. I made my cut last night of .15 mg. I am down to 5.45 mg Mirt. I like this pattern of cutting. I cut .15 mg every 3 weeks. I feel some w/d but it gone by the end of the 3 weeks. I get some wind

It's all liquid from now on. The half pill doesn't agree with me anymore. I'll wait a week and start the taper with no more than 5% a month (2.5% every two weeks) and see how it goes.   I ca

Hello folks. I read something interesting about Mirt tapering when you get down to the really low doses. A woman said she was down to 1.85 mg. She decided to take the 1.85 an hour after she got up in

Yes Alto, I seem to have stabilized from the cut. I was thinking of cutting another .10 mg on the 19th (two weeks from the last cut of .10 mg).

Last month I cut .15 mg on April 5th and that was all I cut in April.

Withdrawal ticked up today. I felt like I was drunk all day, really spacy and fatigued. It's pretty strong withdrawal. I don't think I will be able to cut twice a month like I planned.

April 1 cut .15 mg and beginning of this month I cut .10 mg.

It seems like during the second week I get hit with withdrawal worse.

I'll see how this plays out, but I'm thinking come June I will cut .2 mg or .15 mg., and I'll only cut once in the beginning of the month. Marie.

Not too bad the last couple days. Sleep is pretty good. My area is still in lockdown and will probably be for a couple more months or more. Even then it won't be back to normal for a long time. As bad as this is, it is giving me the opportunity to taper without worry about other stuff. I can keep a low profile. Cutting once a month I will give me brain time to heal and rest until the next cut. Be well everyone. Marie.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm getting hit again harder the second time this month, just like the last two months. Nausea, fatigue and fog intense this morning, but lets up some in the afternoon. Yesterday was worse also. Some light depression came along but I know it's Mirt's depression and not mine. I feel boaty. It sucks. I'll keep going. Marie.

Hello everyone. I have been having really nice windows for the past week it seems. I usually cut on the 5th of the month so I will cut .20 mg of the Mirt then. I might split it and take half at night on the 8th since I have to get a cavity filled on the 8th and I want to feel decent. My dentist is finally opening for business. I have been nursing a toothache since the beginning of March. I hope it can get filled since everyone is afraid of the aerosols in dentistry. I did not go to an emergency dentist during quarantine because I trust this dentist and his excellent skills. He costs extra but he sure is worth it.

I noticed tapering the compound liquid that I would get hit worse during the end of the month and posted on another forum thinking it might be the liquid. Two other Mirt taperers responded that they too had noticed the liquid was not as strong at the end of the bottle. Both mentioned it to their docs and compound pharmacy.  The docs and pharmacy all said that refrigeration of the Mirt slows down the degradation but does not eliminate it. They said it does degrade some by the end of the month and that they should get the liquid for two weeks at a time, which they did. Both said that worked and one said that he likes to make the cut with a fresh bottle. I will finish my bottle and then I will get a new bottle of liquid Mirt every two weeks. It's annoying to have to go to the pharmacy twice a month since it's a few towns over but will be worth it. Be well everyone. Marie.

This is an important observation. I take it your compounding pharmacy says the liquid is good for a month?

The people who are making their own liquids with water are keeping it for less than a week.

Yes they say it's good for one month.  I am glad I found out about this. I am going to finish this month's 30 day bottle and get a 2 week bottle next time. If I feel significant w/d at the end of this month's bottle I will updose a tiny bit. I've learned so much on these forums. Thanks for stopping by. Marie.

Hi Marie:

At the beginning of my taper, I had a tooth that was sensitive to the touch, and hot and cold water.  I went to see my dentist who thought I might need a root canal.  I had the root canal scheduled for mid-April with an endontist.  The tooth thing cleared up within 8 days and has not come back.  I remember this during my benzo taper too -- teeth hurting.

So I am glad I did not need a root canal.....I think the tooth issue was due to the tapering of mirt.

Best regards,

Shebon

Started 3.75 mg. remeron 4/2013.  Had tapered off benzo 4/2011.  1/2020 began 5th or 6th taper off Remeron.  Am doing a modified CITA taper--started 6 nites at 3.75 mg. then one nite at 1.87 mg. (half dose).  Currently (6/4/20), 5 nites at 1.87 and 2 nites at 3.75.  I stay on each phase for one month - it will take me around 7 mths to be at 1.87 mg nitely (1/2 of normal dose of 3.75 mg.)  4/10/20 -  2.67 mg. Remeron/day; 5/10/20 - 2.39 mg.;  6/10/20 - 2.11 mg.; 7/11 1.87 mg.  My first BIG benchmark!  1/25/2021 -- going back up to 1.87 mg. as cutting 1/8s into 1/16s became problematic and I have had withdrawal symptoms the past 4 months or so that I thought was due to other stuff going on.   NOT -- all withdrawals (insomnia, headachy, flushes, flu-ishness).  I will be happy at a 50% reduction until I re-stabilize again, and start afresh with a compounding pharmacy and take it very slow.

Hi Shebon. Yes, I've had various teeth hurting me during my three withdrawals and always told myself it's probably withdrawal. Some were. This tooth though was confirmed by a top endontist that I needed a filling. Believe me, I am glad it was just a filling. The meds have done some damage and caused real teeth issues for sure along with a former bad dentist. I had two teeth pulled last year and three root canals. One of them had a cracked root. I believe it happened because while I was taping trazodone, my jaw sometimes would just slam shut on it's own. Mirtazapine causes dry mouth, which causes cavities. My gums feel soft and mushy in some spots and I feel a sore here and there. It's Mirt's fault. It also gives me a sweet tooth. It has to go.

I see that you're getting low on the Mirt. If you hit a wall as you get closer to the end, slow it down a lot so you just glide off. Good luck. Marie.

Hi Marie:

I agree with mirt's impact on sweet carbs.   jeez...I gained 5 lbs within two weeks on it.  I hope the 10+ lbs starts to come off sometime soon.  The thing about tapering is the fatigue....it makes you so tired to do anything and you can't do as much as you used to do.

You've done real well getting off traz...I tried that a few times too.  Hopefully, your micro taper will suit you well and you can continue to reduce.

Hope you filling goes well -- sorry to hear about your dental issues.  My new toast now is "here's to good dental health😁"

How are things going in your state from the virus?  Things are slowly trying to get back to normal where I am -- Castle Rock.

Let's toast to our newfound selves after we are done with the mirt baby.

Stay well, well,

Shebon

Hello Shebon. We are slowly starting to open up here in the NY area. I even have an appointment with my hairdresser in a couple weeks. Last time I was there was more than 3 months ago. Now if the criminal element would stop rioting and looting it will be all peaches and cream over here.

At least I've noticed that with a lesser dose of mirt the side effects are lessening. I mean I'm still tired, but the morning zombie fog is less.

Oh you're in Castle Rock. I wonder if that's the same Castle Rock that Stephen King writes about.

Yes we'll toast our mirt free lives, but I'll have to raise my glass of sparkling soda. Be well. Marie.

Hi Marie:

Hope your taper is going well...and hope the destruction and looting stops there in New York.  It's happened here in Denver too.  And so many other places.

Stephen King wrote "The Shining" about the infamous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.  It is a lovely place.  I have not heard of his "Castle Rock" book though.  We are half-way between Denver and Colorado Springs.

I am feeling more energy the past few days...I hope it lasts.  This taper stuff can zap the energy out of you.

How is your taper going?  It takes awhile to build confidence at the start of the taper.  Once you get going, you think there's no way you want to stop.

Cheers,

Shebon

Hey Shebon. Castle Rock is a fictional place mentioned in several of Stephen King's books. He has a new series out now called Castle Rock. I think it is on Netflix.

My taper is going well. I just cut .2 mg. The morning zombie fog of Mirt has been gone for several weeks. This has always been a terrible side effect for me. I think the lowering of Mirt has sent it away. I am starting to find my footing with the taper. You are right, once you get in the groove, you just want to keep going. Liquid is so much easier. The amount of work it was to cut and weigh with Trazodone was nuts at times.

I went to a beautiful botanical garden today and had a nice walk. Very few people were there. I sat on a bench to gaze at the beauty of it all. I found a new place to visit again for sure, maybe for a picnic under one of their giant trees. Marie.

10/13--10/14 Ambien. Started tapering 1/14  Jumped 10/14.  Done.

2/14         75 Trazodone   -    Tapered by dry cutting all the way down.

1/16        4 mg Trazodone  -  Jumped. Bad mistake. Got hit with late withdrawal 6 weeks later. Had to reinstate.

4/16        Reinstated 1 mg, updose to 2 mg Trazodone

2/19        .04 Trazodone. Walked off.  Done.

10/3/19  Started 7.5 Mirtazapine taper cut to .073 gram weight, pill weighs .076

I'm doing pretty good. I had some insomnia for a few days but it was not that bad. I also was waking up with headaches. I thought it was from the Mirt.  I read something the other day about people complaining that their hair was getting too long without haircuts during the pandemic. Women were talking about putting their hair up in buns and it was giving them headaches. Well I have been putting my hair up at night in a bun to avoid night sweats while I sleep. Mine hair has gotten very long. I stopped doing that the last couple nights and voila the headaches are gone. Problem solved! Be well everyone. Marie.

That is great information for all of this in this pandemic. I never thought about how you could get headaches from your hair. Makes perfect sense though.

I got a little chuckle out of this. Not at you at all. Castle Rock is an actual city in Colorado. It’s down by Colorado Springs. My best friend lives there. Very nice place. Maybe Stephen King knew that as he filmed The Shining in Estes Park, Colorado.

Anyway, glad you are hanging in there😊

I’m doing well, thanks for asking.

I won’t be done with my Xanax taper until September 18. The dr messed up, but between Brassmonkey and Gridley we got it figured out. I have the usual wd symptoms for a benzo, but nothing that has brought me down yet. Life goes on lol...

I’m really glad you are doing well.😊

Hello everyone. I inched down to 6.99 mg Mirt. I wanted to get into the 6's for the moral boost. I will set goals to get down to the next level, the 5's, 4's, etc. It makes it easier this way. I'm not so hungover in the morning as I lessen the Mirt. Sleep has normalized after a couple days of mild insomnia. Keep going folks, it gets better. Marie.

Just want to put this down here so I don't forget. So on the 5th of this month I went down .21 mg of the Mirt. On the 18th I went down .06 mg for a total cut for the month of June

.27 mg. This worked well for me.  I like this amount for July too. I'll cut the .21 mg on the 5th and the .06 mg on the 18th. I'm cautious with this taper. Tolerable is enough w/d for me. Marie.

I just picked up my new bottle of liquid Mirt. Boy did the pharmacy screw up. When I picked up the bottle I looked into the bag and saw a little medicine bottle halfway filled. Now my script is for 7.5 mg per 5 mil. and I gave them 30 pills. So 30 times 5 mil equals 150 mils. There was maybe 30 mils in the tiny bottle. Next time I am going to give them the old bottle so they won't mess it up again. Last time they screwed up I sent in the old liquid bottle to remind them how to do it. They said that I did not have to do that and that they know lol. Whoops they did it again. I know how to make it myself if I have to. Next time I'm going to ask for the name of the suspension they use and see if I could purchase it online. I'll say I want to make sure I'm not allergic to any of the ingredients. Just a little white lie. There are about 5 or 6 pharmacists there that rotate with two or three there every day.  Most if not all of their business is compounding with small retail in the front of the store. I like it that they do it though, nice and easy.  I have light w/d symptoms. Be well everyone. Marie.

  • 2 weeks later...

Happy 4th of July to those of us in the US. My taper has been going well, in a good groove. I picked up a cold from somewhere. The only place I was was the hair salon. My stylist wore a mask and had another customer in a separate area with a mask. Another stylist was there and her client both had masks on. A child was sitting nearby with no mask. The other stylist had her husband stop by to say hello. There were just too many people for inside. My stylist said it would be me and just her, so I accepted the big price increase. When my stylist was finished the other stylist came into the same area as me with her client. They both took off their masks to start talking. Look I know wearing masks suck, but please follow the rules. I didn't say anything but I wished I did. I did not leave my house for anything else and the timing was right. I spied the color package she used for my hair. When my stylist saw me looking she scooped it up and threw it into the garbage. She was not fast enough, so I googled it and found it online. I think I will be using it touch up my roots at home. It will save me a lot of money. There are a lot of youtube videos showing how to do it correctly. That's what happens when you price yourself right out of the game. Too many people are out doing things. I hope we do not get a second wave. I'll hold my taper for a bit until the cold passes.

I am always going to be selfish and put myself first these days. Too many years I put others first and cared for them and their well being. I'll recover and flourish. Marie.

Thanks Hannah. Oh wow you're from Iceland. I've seen some shows that take place in Iceland. It looks so beautiful and interesting. It's on my bucket list for when the pandemic is over. Lots of other places to see and my hubby is retiring so it will be great. Let's hope for a good vaccine.

I cut last night to 6.78 mg Mirt. It took me a about an hour to fall asleep but then sleep was good.  I get a bit of insomnia when I first cut, but it gradually improves to really good sleep in a week or so. I'm able to nap now, so I'll take an afternoon nap. Liquid is so superior to cut and hold. I like that I can sneak in a couple of smaller cuts when I feel particularly good. It all adds up. Be well everyone. Marie.

I just want to put this here so I don't forget. Brain is a bit foggy tapering. Using the 1 ml oral syringe I fill the syringe to 5 plus  one click to dose, along with the 4 ml from the 5 ml syringe of course. I think I accidentally went up a bit last night. Slept better because of that. Dose is now 6.78 mg.  Marie.

Hi Marie:

Very glad to hear you are continuing on and doing well!!  I think once we gain some confidence, we realize we can trudge on ahead...

I agree with you about the hair salons....I just bought my first box of semi-permanent hair color and will use that today.  I am feeling empowered to "do it myself" and safe the money and maybe even damage done to my hair through the permanent hair color stuff.  It always freaked me out to see my hair stylist pulling out a large bottle of bleach and adding it to the developer.  And I always came home with forehead stains.  She used no stain barrier around my face.

I am to my first benchmark, which was to be 50% down by this time.  I am doing well...

Hope you can continue your taper and feel well at the same time!

Cheers!

Hello Shebon. I've noticed my hair is in much better condition since I was not able to go to the salon for four months. The strong dye that they use make your hair so dry and brittle. You know I never even knew there was actually a stain barrier that can be used for the face. I saw it on youtube when I was looking for solutions to my at home hair. My stylist has never used one.

I felt a couple symptoms from the last cut. I just acknowledge what they are and say so what. With all the  tapering I've done I know not to bother too much thinking about them. I can't wait to get into the 5's. If I look at it like that it's just 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and done. It's my mind trick.

Oh wow you are halfway there. You are going to make it for sure. Just go a little slower at the very end. Good luck. Marie.

Hello everyone. You know all of this started because out of nowhere I got tinnitus. It was very bad and I could not sleep for even an hour at night. That would last for two days, then I would crash on the third night. For some people it takes a while to be able to sleep with it, some take a year or more. When you first get T the brain treats it as an enemy as it it not used to hearing the sound. Flight or fight takes over.  This is why I was poly-drugged with sleep meds. My doctor when I asked for something to sleep he said, "You know Michael Jackson took sleep meds". This was after he died. I asked for something that was non-addictive. First came Ambien. What a joke! I was addicted after a week taking it.

I have been using the TV on very low volume listening to nature shows every night to drown out the sound of T.  I just recently tried just going to sleep without it, since I will be removing my last sleep med at some point. A few nights on and off it  that I tried it has been successful. Positive things can happen during withdrawal.

I've notice that w/d from Mirt gives me slight depression in the morning. I know it's there, I acknowledge it, but I don't like it. I'll give it a positive spin and say it's just another reason to get off of these mind-bending drugs. Stay safe and be well everyone. Marie.

Hi Marie:

So sorry to hear about your tinnitus.  That's a tough one to deal with....is that the reason you started with the remeron?  The docs are so flippant about using sleep meds and show their lack of knowledge about how addictive this stuff is and difficult to stop.

Have you tried some white noise?  I will use a white noise app on my phone with the sound on air conditioning when I travel....it helps a lot as I get extra stressed when I travel.  Travel is non-existent right now with COVID.  Staying home and staying put.

I hope you can manage through the tinnitus.... and not get discouraged.

I also watched a Youtube video about using stain barrier around the face....my hair stylist must not know about this?  Anyway, I used Clairol Natural Instincts and am ok with a darker color than expected.  It beats the price of my hair stylist any day!

Be well and hope your taper continues to go well.😀
