Hi guys! Hope everyone is doing ok..I am ok. Do you think part of w.d is not being able to get other people's opinions out of your head? I have a former friend who has told me my significant other isn't right for me but he is the best thing on this Earth. I am wondering how to get her negative opinions out of my head.

Started Prozac 20 MG March 2014-Sept 2014

New doctor switched me to Lexapro 10 MG and it helped from Sept 2014-Feb 2015 and then I felt the Lexapro wasn't helping as much so he changed the dose to 20 MG and I took that from Feb 2015-July 2015 when I decided to get off pills completely.I had to reinstate as I was feeling so bad and very pressured to go back on pills. My Dr put me on 50 MG zoloft and I took it for about a week..made me feel brain dead. Went down to 25 before I really learned the trouble of fast tapering..finally got a jewelry scale to properly weigh out my pills. Looking to just feel OK. Unsure where to go next.

Hi, Coopergirl. Did you find a good therapist? I think you'll need to talk about those kinds of things with a therapist, perhaps learn some techniques to stop unwanted thoughts.

How are your withdrawal symptoms?

This is not medical advice. Discuss any decisions about your medical care with a knowledgeable medical practitioner.

My withdrawal symptoms have lessened I can really say that. Not completely but I know tapering 10% I'm doing the right thing. It's hard to know and accept you're in withdrawal but I am still hopeful :)

Also I didn't find a therapist who doesn't believe I need to be on medication so I'd rather talk to friends and exercise to deal with those kinds of issues. I do believe the unwanted thoughts are part of the process of healing, my brain is regulating and learning to work through them like I wouldve done before the meds

Hi everyone-I just wanted to start off by saying thank you for being here. You all are amazing people. I appreciate all of your help. I was wondering does anyone out there have ocd and does w.d make it worse? Thanks so much

Hi, Coopergirl1.  Hope you are feeling well these days.

While I do not have ocd myself, the answer is very clearly "yes" -- withdrawal can make ocd worse.  Because many people find that withdrawal causes them to have ruminating and intrusive thoughts, essentially the hallmark of ocd, it is very easy to understand how withdrawal can greatly exacerbate a previous diagnosis of ocd.  It is important, however, to recognize that unpacking the situation, i.e, figuring out what is caused by withdrawal and what might have been an existing condition, is not really possible until the drugs have been weaned and some time has passed.  Going to a doctor now would be an invitation for additional medicines that would not help your withdrawal.

Hope that helps.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Andy, you are completely right. I knew I had a tinge of ocd before hand but now i have it so severe and intrusive thoughts i cant let go of. Trying to let them be for now and just go on with my day. I will not be back at the dr. I dont know the next time ill ever be again. I have 6.5 months left in my taper and I know I can do this. I will beat this.

You have a great attitude, CG and that will help you get to the finish line, BUT (there's always a but, isn't there? :D )

Please make sure that you are not continuing to taper in the face of really bad problems.  If the intrusive thoughts are really bothering you to a significant degree, you should certainly consider putting the brakes on your taper and holding for a little while to let them recede.  When you say definitively that you have "6.5 months left" I worry that you are being dogmatically governed by the calendar instead of listening to your body.

It is your taper of course, and nobody can tell you what to do.  Just putting out some "food for thought."

Best,

Andy

Hi Coopergirl! What dose are you on now?

It seems like your tapering is going well.

Current dose: 0! Free!  Quit June 2017.

2016: 0,98 to 0,22 mg; 2015: 2,35 to 1,01 mg; 2014: 4,9 to 2,5 mg; 2013: 9,1 to 5,1 mg; 2012: 15,7 to 9,7 mg; 2011: Started on 25 mg - then 50 mg- dropped to 25- to 12.5 mg - back to 25 mg - after 18.75 mg started tiny tapering to 16.6 mg

Started on 25 mg Zoloft in March 2011 due to stressrelated tinnitus that gave me panicattacks. Had a terrible reaction to Zoloft from start, but was told to "hold on". After four months I was stuck. Therefore the long taper. Crazy, I know... Super sensitive to drops and have dropped by 4-6 % from the previous dose.

I am currently at 16.5 mg zoloft..and my mom laughs at me when I tell her that since she is on a huge dose she says nothing can effect me as that dose is so small. INSTEAD of arguing with her I just go on with my day. Andy, youre right..I am tapering 10% every 4 weeks but maybe I need to slow it down a bit..I just want off so badly. This is so horrific. I really feel bad for people who wont listen to me when I tell them to never go on these.

That is all too common as well, CG.  I've been (and continue at times to be) in complete denial of the fact that I'm in withdrawal.  I've had tons of medical tests trying to find out what in the world is wrong with me. It's all about fighting the acceptance which is what is necessary.  I'm getting closer to acceptance but still not there completely.

Bottom line -- you are not alone.

I'm glad to hear that everything is going so well CG.  Take care.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Hey coopergirl just popping by . I have had OCD thoughts/thinking during WD that I have never experienced before . Its almost like the brain is down for repairs and all these uncontrollable thoughts and feelings can flood and be overwhelming at times .. but than it disappears . WD is some kind of experience that can take awhile to get used to. Look at the recovery stories to dampen the doubt.  It can take a long time for everything to clear up . But it may not take a long time .   Seems like your on the right track !

Was on 30mg (Lexapro) for 7-8yrs20mg for 3 months (This was my choice my Doc wanted me to drop much faster)15 mg 2week10mg 2 weeks 5 mg 1 week0 since August 24th . PPI Dexlant  30 mg taper has begun. Cutting 20% currently.  using zantac as needed.  Benzo is currently 0.10mg

One more thing , the reason all of us doubted whether we are in WD is that most of the doctors dismiss it .  Its much scarier when you think this is the way you are and its not WD. Its a Broken healthcare system that makes this experience tougher. 100% your in WD

Moved your post here to update your Intro topic.

What "people are telling me I should feel things again"?

All antidepressants, including Lexapro and Zoloft, can cause emotional anesthesia. (They also very frequently cause sexual anesthesia.) It may take some time after you're completely off antidepressants for your feelings to come back.

You will need to learn how to be patient.

Coopergirl - I'm glad you posted here at SA where people understand that psych drug tapering is difficult and that withdrawal symptoms are real and unpleasant.  Unless these people have direct, personal experience of discontinuing an antidepressant, I'd treat their opinion as I would a dog barking -- just noise.

So I know I should be staying off google and just come to you guys instead but im freaking out..google (maybe 1 or 2) sites state that Lexapro ups your dopamine and it cant cause feelings or lost love but how can that be true when I feel this way?

The lack of emotions you describe, Coopergirl, is a known withdrawal symptom.

What is withdrawal syndrome

The name given to loss of emotions is anhedonia. Here's a discussion about it.

I felt this way while on medication too but even worse now that I am tapering. I think its just a rollcoaster that I have to ride out. I appreciate your response so much.

Hi again everyone, hope all is well or getting better for you. Can anyone relate to intrusive thoughts? Can I have normal thoughts and intrusive thoughts? If I have a thought and do an action (not a bad one) but an action does that count as me giving in to my intrusive thoughts? My biggest fear. Please help.
