Guys - I don't know whats up with me.

For just over a month I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain.  I thought it could be to do with the muscles as I tend to have tight hip flexors, but I cannot figure out what the problem is.

I have stomach ache in the lower abdomen, I have regular bowel movements same time each morning, I do have gas but not so much bloating.  I'm also sleeping through the night and I have not experienced nausea or diarrhea (maybe a few loose stools this morning).

A lot of stuff has been running through my mind - gallstones? cervical issues??

My TOTM is on time each month and I have not had any weird symptoms associated with it.

The need to frequently urinate has disappeared as I had that for a 2 weeks straight.  Is this just the next W/D issue I am having to deal with??

Any insight appreciated.

JC

I have the same thing going on lately - and have no clues yet.  Feels like a mild totm discomfort, but I usually only get that during my period.

Strange - but I'm interested to see someone else has a similar thing.  If I discover anything I'll let you know.

2010  Fluoxetine 20mg.  2011  Escitalopram 20mg.  2013 Tapered badly and destabilised CNS.  Effexor 150mg.

2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants.  Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month.

Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms).

8 month hold.

2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent).

2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well.
Supplements: Fish oil, vitamin C, iron, oat-straw tea, nettle tea.

2023 Now on 7 micro-beads of Effexor. Minimal symptoms but much more time needed between drops.

Hi Karen,

Yes mild TOTM pain sounds about right, and the pain comes and goes in waves. We won't be registering with a doctor until we have a semi-perm address so that's in 2 weeks time.

I don't think it's UTI related either - will be requesting some tests including the PAP.

Hugs,

JC

Karen - is your abdominal pain getting worse or staying the same?

It stays at a mild level.  It's been constant for the last month, today it's easing a little.  No idea why.  So random.  Yours?

Mine was quite bad yesterday, and I tested the cause by lying on the affected area to see how it goes. Sensitivity for sure.

Going to get some tests done as this is scaring me.

Experiencing sharp pain now when I sit down in a very localised area of the bladder area.

No bloating, gas, normal digestive movement each day and no pain when peeing.

Sensitivity when I lie on my front.

I'm sorry to hear that!! Were the gallstones caused by coming off the drug or unrelated?

I have been on paxil since 1995 and began getting indigestion in 2013 and surgery in 2015.  I have no idea if they are related.  Apparently people can have gallstones and not have any problems with indigestion, etc.  It said my gall was inflamed and I have found that many of our problems are related to inflamation so it wouldn't surprise me if it was paxil related.

1995-2007      20mg Aropax/Paxil for pain.  Years of up and down doses

2008                Endep, Lexapro and then Esipram (hell!) CT (oh dear!)

2009                20mg Aropax.  Tried skipping doses for a year (more hell!)

                        2010                10mg.  10% taper.  Lasted 4 months. Crashed again

I'm sorry to hear that!! Were the gallstones caused by coming off the drug or unrelated?

oops, sorry, I mis-read you question.  That I don't know either, but was my main concern for not rushing off right away to have the surgery, because many others seem to have stomach issues, indigestion, etc.  The surgery was horrific and if I had my time again I probably wouldn't have had it, and I am only just recovering now after 8 months.  However, everyone tells me that if it was "inflamed" then I should have had it done.  The strange thing is that when I looked up a normal gall bladder, mine was described the same, the normal colour, size, shape, etc.  I guess I will never know.

For just over a month I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain. .

I have lower abdominal pain just about every day, in on particular spot sometimes mild, sometimes moderate and sometimes severe.  where is your pain?  Mine is lower right side and I thought it appendix but doctor reckons not.  He reckons it is either gas or poo.  It is hard to believe when the pain is so bad it can just be either of those two.

I have stomach ache in the lower abdomen, I have regular bowel movements same time each morning, I do have gas but not so much bloating.  I'm also sleeping through the night and I have not experienced nausea or diarrhea (maybe a few loose stools this morning).

My whole lower abdomen is always "sore" or have discomfort or "tender" and I always wonder if it is the result of the gall surgery, so it is interesting you have same thing.  If I eat the wrong thing at night I too, will be awake until the early hours of the morning.

A lot of stuff has been running through my mind - gallstones? cervical issues??

You could have an ultrasound to rule out cervical issues or ovaries

The need to frequently urinate has disappeared as I had that for a 2 weeks straight.  Is this just the next W/D issue I am having to deal with??

I'm not sure about that one.  Hubby urinates only about 3-4 times a day!  I go about 6 times in the day and 5 times at night, so perhaps it is a w/d issue, but not encountered it with other people as yet.  My daughter goes only 3-4 times a day too.

I have the same thing going on lately - and have no clues yet.  Feels like a mild totm discomfort, but I usually only get that during my period.

Strange - but I'm interested to see someone else has a similar thing.  If I discover anything I'll let you know.

I find this interesting too, that others have the same thing.  There are times when I feel like it is that heavy, pulling, cramping feeling of menstruation, but it is not, as I am menopausal.  Based on that feeling, I once took Naproxen for 3 days and it got rid of all pain and aching for 5 days!  Perhaps it is cramps, as I do get leg cramps and used to get muscle spasms a lot with the w/d.

Update:

Gotten over the worst of the UTI/Cystitis, and finished the 3 day course of ABs yesterday morning (Trimethoprim) but going to request 4 more days of ABs to make sure its totally gone (seeing doc tomorrow as now registered) - however I got back from a 6k walk this evening which was hilly to say the least and have felt:

Extra loud tinnitus in both ears

Restless

Adrenaline/cortisol surges

Very shaky/Trembling

Nausea

Upset stomach

Palps (yesterday)

I also did a 6k hilly walk yesterday (went up a very steep half mile hill) although I slept really well (previous night had to go to the loo at 4am + had painful lower abdomen), I experienced major leg jerks.

TO NOTE:

Since enduring the UTI thing for the last few weeks, my appetite has dropped - found it really horrendous and painful, got scared and couldn't eat.

We got up an hour earlier this morning as my hubby had a meeting an hour away, therefore had breakfast earlier.  By the time we got home 5 hours later, I was ravenous and bordering on full on blood sugar crash.

I take the bulk of my supplements after lunch, then when I got back from the walk I took a sachet of Emergen-C (not the electrolyte but the multi-vit one) - maybe I overdid the vits today I'm not sure; but I have internal tremors.  Haven't had these before :0(

Also, day before yesterday I had a blow up with my parents - my mother said something which really upset me.  We have a habit of winding eachother up, and I haven't seen them since.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Scared again :0(

FOOTNOTE:  C**p, have done it AGAIN, I succumbed to my fear of what I'm going to call "THE BEAST", aka WD.  My hubby gave me a harsh talking to just now.  He said "Not everything you're feeling means somethings wrong".  Of course WD amplifies every little sensation.  Tomorrow I will be requesting that I get counselling to help me get on track with the CBT.  I started it in Canada but am so off track and I keep falling back into my "PIT OF DOOM".

Forgot to mention that when I was at the doctors on Wednesday, I requested liquid Cipralex but it is only possible to get 20mg per ml which would have required crazy accuracy to get the right amount.

So instead I will be getting 5mg tabs.

Overstimulated CNS has calmed right down now and I think the ABs may have caused this.  Bowels are almost back to normal after the AB assault but I still have bladder sensitivity issues due to remaining bacteria.

I have done the same distance of walks since and feel fine.

Hi J.C .  I don't think there is much more you could do at this stage . As we have talked about  , you have to be patient . You have to give it some time. The body will heal .

Hugs,

Ali

Thanks Ali, I know - and my urine culture came back "NORMAL" so no more ABs (a minor win anyway).

Just dealing with a bit of incontinence now.  I know lots of people on SA have had this so nothing to freak out about.

Have ordered some D-Mannose, so hope that will reduce my chances of getting recurring UTIs......

Hugs,

JC

Recognising all this for what it is, is a really big step - and you are starting to do just that.  You'll freak out less when you can see things for what they are.  Soon you'll be giving yourself stern talks, and your hubby will find himself out of a job!

Just go easy on yourself - notice what's happening, recognise it for what it is, and then move on with giving yourself gentle care and understanding.

This is one heck of a mental battle Karen.

I used to be a church goer and completely lost my faith years ago due to a major family crisis (eluded to at the beginning of this thread).

Now I feel myself thinking more and more about faith healing, and other spiritual routes to over-coming the extreme fear that this "journey of pain" has dumped on me.

I have a choice: completely freak out and fall into my pit of doom for days/weeks OR quietly get the offending pain checked out by a doc and seek pyschiatric/counselling to help me manage the anxiety.

This is harder than it seems and I am not going to succeed at this over night. I am now 4 months into re-i statement and have experienced:

A major wave since returning from vacation on 2nd Feb and moving back to the UK which has so far been non-stop infections: chest, bladder, UTI (frequent urination). I have also experienced adrenaline/cortisol surges, extra loud tinnitus and trembling/shaking (these are frequent and down to fear).

I will be dropping my dose next week so we will see what that brings.

JC , we don't recommend dropping your dose until you have been stable for around 4 weeks.

Your frequent urination is not a UTI , it's withdrawal.  Your move has put your system under enormous stress , and decreasing now will exacerbate all your symptoms.

Give yourself an opportunity to recover.  You need to taper smart , not fast.

1987-1997 pertofran , prothiaden , Prozac 1997-2002 Zoloft 2002-2004 effexor 2004-2010 Lexapro 40mg

2010-2012Cymbalta 120mg

Sept. 2012 -decreased 90mg in 6months. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta

Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months.

July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months.

Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. Started CES therapy in March. No w/d symptoms down to 30mg.

October 2015 , taking 25mg Pristiq. Capsules compounded with slow-release additive.

March 2016 , 21mg

Fresh, this makes sense, in which case I won't lower the dose. I guess these symptoms mean I am not yet stabilised.

The move has been a nightmare for my WD symptoms.

Currently have what feel like sharp muscle spasms in my lower abdomen/urinary tract (not very good at human anatomy). Have also had an achy tummy.

About to book another doctor appointment to see if further investigation required.

It is hard - one of the hardest things to manage is anxiety.  I always think of anxiety like fear.  It's hard to pin down, hard to work out, hard to reason with...

There's no easy answers, and I think that makes it even more frightening for us.  It escalates without warning, and it can start to feel like it's bigger than us.

As with depression, it seems that it can start to ease and improve once we build supportive things into our lives.  But it does take time, so it's frustrating when you are trying to cope with things today and this week.

Given all you've got going on right now, I really think you are coping well.  And as you leave the move further behind, things will become easier.  Be gentle with yourself...

PS.  I also lost my faith this year, due to this whole w/d thing.  It had been coming for a while I guess, the w/d was the icing on the cake and I couldn't hold onto my faith any longer.

Karen - thank you for your insight, and I'm sorry that W/D made you lose your faith.

Do you think the frequent urination and lower abdominal pain (stomach aches) are W/D related?  They seem to fall into the list of W/D symptoms.

A big hug for everyone struggling with W/D, and thank you for your support.

Its the first day of Spring today, so its a hopeful time of year.

Hi Jungle,

I know one fellow who had to come off of Remeron due to heart arrhythmia issues, and his major WD complaint is intestinal cramping/pain.  As you probably know, 80% of your serotonin is outside the brain, and there are lots of receptors in the gut, so it tends to get hit with withdrawal.  Hang in there for stabilization!

I think what might be in order is to switch to making a liquid but NOT DROPPING AT THE SAME TIME!  i suspect that your dosing has been inconsistent and possibly the reason for having ongoing symptoms.  There is an adjustment to the liquid because it can be absorbed differently, so that is why it isn't wise to cut at the same time.  Some even cross taper from dry to liquid, but since you don't have an accurate way to measure the dry right now, I'm thinking go ahead and start making the liquid but continue at 2.5 mg at least for a month and see if you can get that abdominal stuff to settle down.

You will need a way to consistently measure milliliters. What size pill do you have?

I like these, but I'm not sure what volume you'll need to work with so they may be too big.  They are nice for mixing, though:

SG

Started ADs back around 1995 after bad break-up, starting with Prozac.  Switched to Wellbutrin, and then to Effexor in 2002
Effexor XR 2002-2014 up to 225 mg at one point, down to 37.5 mg towards end but back up to 75 mg in 2014; now realize I had W/D as I dropped down, memory very poor about history.  Extreme emotions, poor concentration as I stepped back down, didn't connect the dots!
Summer 2014 reduced to 0 very quickly, was sick of anhedonia/sexual dysfunction due to meds, depression never controlled if not worse. Didn't recognize WD since symptoms built slowly (thought I had ADD! and menopausal on top of it), starting with severe sweats, very bad cog-fog and memory issues, culminating in weight loss, severe anxiety and depression, panic, severe apathy and insomnia by eight months off.  Saw p-doc who put me on Remeron, increased from 7.5 mg/day to 37.5 mg by May 22, 2015; still doing very badly though able to sleep.

June 1. 2015 Reinstated Effexor XR 37.5 mg, Remeron dropped to 30 mg PM. Immediate relief of symptoms, like nothing had ever happened!  Joined SA and began on advice of friend who recognized it was WD all along! Began tapering in July 2015.

Been tapering both meds ever since, focusing on one more than the other or doing no more than 5% of each per month.

12 mg Effexor and 5.8 mg Remeron (mirtazapine SolTabs to make a solution with OraPlus) as of 5/4/2017

Update 3/14/18: 2.9 mg Remeron and 6 mg Effexor; 6/10/18:  2.6 mg Remeron and 4.9 mg Effexor

Hi SG,

Thank you for your message.

I wouldn't be surprised either if my doses have been inconsistent. My pill cutter isn't the best and I can tell the quantities differ judging the crumb size and shapes (all different).

Currently I have a large amount of 10mg tabs remaining but I now have a months supply of 5mg tabs (recently prescribed). This is the first time I have been hit by the horrible cramping which predominates in the lower intestine (I guess I mistook GI issues for a UTI/bladder infection). I can feel it higher up sometimes as well. The frequent urination seems to have reduced now.

Experiencing gas (both ends), and my bowel movements have changed again. I am taking probiotics daily as well as probiotic yoghurt.

I will ask my hubby for help with the titration stuff as I can't think very clearly these days, lol.

Best,

JC

I know what you mean about mentally not being up for numerical/titrating challenges...

I raise sheep, and one day I was trying to count them as they were milling around eating, and I just couldn't do it!  Sure, it would be hard for anyone with them moving a bit, but cognitively I just couldn't handle it!

Was there a change of brand with the move?  Sometimes it is something just as simple as that to cause new symptoms!

Ahh, I love sheep and have been very happy to see them again here!

I haven't made the switch yet and am finishing the remaining crumbs I cut up previously. Haven't yet opened the packaging to see if the 5mg tabs are the same brand as the 10mg ones. Will keep you posted on that.

Not sure what has caused these new symptoms. Possibly the relationship with my parents which isn't great. Finding it stressful being around them (in the same village) after 6 yrs of not seeing much of them and also they are completely unaware that they are the root cause of my WD :0( they just think I have depression.

Well I am bracing myself.

Have persistent pain in the reproductive area that flares up during the day but not when I'm asleep. Have had waves of nausea and tummy pain. This is terrifying, have never had pain like this before. Fearing the worst, and I am not seeing the doc until next Wednesday.

Periods have always been on time and smears have always come back fine :0(

JC.    Sometimes there is no " rhyme or reason" to this  W/D thing .  It certainly might help to switch to liquid , but at the same time there are symptoms that are unique to these drugs , and we can't underestimate them .

I have been off all drugs for 22 months , and I'm still finding " wacky symptoms".   It's not always about dosing . Stress , can do it .  Sometimes , it's just a matter of time and  patience. Certainly , being around your parents after a period of time away , could be a huge stress on your CNS.

Rest assured, though . These symptoms are common in withdrawal , and will recede in time.

Thanks so much everyone for your patience (SG, AliG, Karen and Fresh) and for your kind words.

Its fair to say that I am in the midst of a mental battle right now.  Currently the "I`m going to die" voice is winning over the voice of reason.

Somehow, the state of patience isn`t any where near my radar, I`m in more of a state of flux - getting my head around whats happening to my body is just too hard at the moment.  Not succeeding.

Will come back with an update once I`ve had a smear and an ultrasound.

J.C.  You can do this !    You are definitely , not going to die .  That is just " neuro - emotions " , showing  up !    Try to ignore the voice, of   withdrawal.    It  can be disconcerting at times , but you are winning this " battle" , incrementally !    DO NOT GIVE UP .

Thank you Ali  :)  Your encouragement is very soothing.  Also well done for being 22 months off ADs!

I have a requisition in for an ultrasound - so am waiting for the letter to come from the NHS for the date.

BTW, the doctor I saw thought I was a bit mad - I was expecting that reaction, but hey.

Hope you`re ok x
