Hi all,

I wanted to start a check in topic for Europeans.

I am thinking this topic could be very useful to:

- post links to other topics related to activism in Europe

- post links to other topics related to new developments, conferences and events in Europe

- generally gather the European members to get an idea how many of us there is.

- maybe even visit each other?

Let's gather all things Europe here.

Cheers,

Laura

Feb 2015 Took venlafaxine for 5 days only... experienced withdrawal that made me completely non-functional

Mar 2015 took under 1mg of Sertraline for 10 days in an attempt to combat Venlafaxine withdrawal. Got adverse reactions.

After stopping Sertraline, withdrawal got much worse. New, horrific symptoms.

June 2015 Still non-functional but slowly getting better. Still brain zaps, migraines, sweating, heart racing, depression, crying spells

September 2015: 24/7 brain zaps, twitches in the face, no concentration, bad memory, language skills deteriorating.

European here!

About me ------------------------ College student with a history of anxiety, excessive worrying and health anxiety.

April 2014 - May 2015----------    Prozac 20mg On and Off.  Second time on it I developed apathy, changes in personality, asexuality.

May 2015  -   July 2015-----------------  Tappering off prozac. Still no feelings, anhedonia, apathy, no libido, asexuality.

Current symptoms--------  pssd (asexuality in my case). Anxiety and depression developed some months afer stopping prozac, could have been caused by obsessing and beating myself up too much when I found myself unable to like girls again. The best thing to do with pssd (which in my case is asexuality) is accept it and move on.

Good idea.

2000: Use of venlafaxine for moderate depression for two years. Tapered off with no major problems.

2010: Venlafaxine 5 years, doses between 75-150-300. Tolerated but only partially stabilised the severe depression & escallating side effects.

Adverse reactions to citalopram (tried before venlafaxine), sertraline & mirtazapine (tried after venlafaxine became problematic) with suicidal ideation caused.

2014: Adverse reaction to one prozac pill which I tried to begin taking in order to stabilise the withdrawal and actually made it horrendously worse. My body & brain went on fire two hours after taking the pill and severe WD began.

Spring 2014: CEASED ALL ANTIDEPRESSANTS. Did take occasional lorazepam (two weeks at first followed by the occasional half tablet at night sometimes.

2014: WD: living hell for five months, gradually improved a little by little for almost a year and a half but with frequent heart palpitations, weakness and anxiety and very poor sleep. Struggled to do things both physically & mentally but was improving slowly.

2015: WD relapse with full symptoms. anxiety/panic triggered beyond initial anxiety resurgence by a couple of small half doses of Lorazepam that seem to have restarted all the WD symptoms I had in the beginning & ruined all the progress I had made.

2017: Bad reaction to propranolol beta blockers. Nervous system kindled into violent shaking like withdrawal again. Alerting system on overdrive.

Current Supplements: Omega 3 & Vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, pre/probiotics, brewer's yeast.

Checking in.

i was prescribed seroxat 15 years ago for anxiety. Mid september of this year I took my last pill. My doctor didn't think it was a very good idea but my psychologist convinced me to try.

My tapering schedule was: 10mg citalopram and 10mg paroxetin every day for two weeks. Then increase citalopram to 20mg a day and no more paroxetin. Then after 2 weeks 10mg citalopram and then nothing.

BUT me being blond, I misunderstood and instead of taking the citalopram and paroxetin together every day I took paroxetin one day and citalopram the other day. So I went from 20mg paroxetin every day to 10mg every other day. When I discovered my mistake I was already a couple of weeks into it and after consulting my doctor decided to keep going and not to increase the citalopram to 20mg because I was already accidentally taking 10mg a day. ????

Hi, everyone! I am in Europe too :)

1992 - Antidepressants, Antipsychotics and benzodiazepines in hospital for about 1,5 month, with PTSD diagnosed. Then I abruptly stopped taking pills. W/d for few months and then no symptoms for many years.

2013 – Doctor prescribes Paxil, Amitriptyline, Risperidone due to insomnia, anxiety and weight loss. Then it starts a long story about changing diagnosis and adding/changing meds. I started to taper in December 2014. Severe withdrawal symptoms for  4 months. Then the 1st window.

April 2015 – meds free. June, July – the first big window which lasted until mid-October. Then a wave again, but this time with new strange symptoms I’ve never had before.

Hello from The Netherlands :-)

All my life: Occasional panic attacks. 2003: Burnout  2004: intrusion (OCD'ish) / anxiety. Therapies: acupuncture, Chinese herbs, hypnotherapy --> symptoms were manageable (did return once in a while), depression lifted.
2007 - Relapse, started with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Therapist recommended Fevarin (fluvoxamine) 150 mg. Recovery after 3 months and remained stable. Mild side effects.
2009 - Tapered fluvoxamine. No withdrawal symptoms. 2010 - Relapse, same Pure O thought and anxiety.  Started taking 100 mg of fluvoxamine but after 9 weeks no change in symptoms. Did not have any effect on Pure O thought. Switched to Lexapro (escitalopram) 20 mg.  Drug started working within 3 weeks. Mild side effects. Slowly over the years tapered to 5 mg.
2015: Lots of personal issues and setbacks, occasional panic attack. 2016: April started skipping doses; 5mg escitalopram every other day (in hindsight a bad idea)
May: Major relapse, anxiety and intrusion returned. Depression. Increased from 2,5 mg 15 mg in two weeks. Side effects: neuro-emotions
June: Escitalopram has no effect on the frequency of the intrusion...after 4 weeks my general doctor advised me to do a fast taper to 5mg. Withdrawal effects (2/3 weeks): neuro-emotions, lack of focus, crying spells, fatigue, muscle twitches in legs, cortisol spikes just before waking up July: Stable on 5 mg. Depression and intrusion lifted during holiday (lots of sunshine, long walks and relaxing) August: Drop down to 2,5 mg. Withdrawal effects (tinnitus, headagues) are noticeable, but still mild in comparison to the big drop earlier.
22th August: stopped escitalopram completely. Cortisol spikes just before waking up, still OCD (only temporary improvements), WD-depression and WD-neuro emotions.
Update 6 dec: no medication, any withdrawal symptoms not noticable. Taking supplements for intrusive thoughts and overall well being: N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) omega 3 fish oils, zinc, vitamin d, magnesium l-threonate, ginko biloba

Hello from Portugal!

Was on Paxil 20 mg between 2007-2016 for social anxiety.

Off Paxil since 29 february 2016, after 9 years on the drug.

Tried to reinstate 6 weeks later with no results, tried then Prozac and Zoloft on advice of psychiatrist with bad results. Meds free since 1 of june and in withdrawal which I don't know any more what it is caused by. ( Paxil, Prozac or Zoloft).

Withdrawal symptoms: severe insomnia, nausea, weight loss, anxiety, brain zaps sometimes, strange pains in different places on my body (could be caused by the anxiety though),gastrointestinal issues, jaw pain (gone now), poor memory (could be the lack of sleep), poor concentration, irritability, depression, hopelessness, rumination, tinnitus (gone)

Hello, new to this site and happy to find fellow Europeans!

Began Paxil in 2003 plus Trazodone to sleep. Tapered off as per doctor's suggestion in less than two months i.e. CT. Got zapped and depressed/anxious worse than before.

Got on Cymbalta in 2005. Cross tapered to 20mg lexapro from 2005, Tapered off fast/CT and took amino acids, total crash.

Started Lexapro in 2008 and got to 45 mg before full "effect"

Erfa thyroid and organic paleo food, lots of healthy fat, no gluten/dairy. Depression lifted.

Tapered off Lexapro from 45 mg since March 2015. Came off Lexapro fully  in summer of 2016. Reinstated at 1mg.

CBD oil plus small dosis THC.

Switched to Celexa 2mg and tapered slowly to 0,05 over a year with a liquid formulation. Jumped off and crashed horribly again!

Am now at 0,00125. Will taper slowly down to an almost non-existing dosage and then either jump off or keep going lower and lower and lower until...

As of July 29th 2019 I am med free and just fine. I jumped off at 1/1000 mg.

As of July 7th 2020 I am feeling great and just here for a check in.

Current dose: 0,000.

Hello I am Europe too even though you might have heard differently !

2006 After sudden death of mother put on 20mg of citaloprom for depression.

2014 Drug stopped working after two weeks of panic attacks felt fine.

Aug 2014. Doctor put me on lyrica for rash on face, diarrhoea, sleeplessness, muscle cramp, bruising. Initial dose too strong, halved dose.  Stopped taking it 22/10/14

2014 severe anxiety after several ssri's attempted, seem to have developed severe  sensitivity to any drug, but giving severe  reactions put on cipralex drop form.started on 2 drops and had to increase by 1 drop every 3 days. Eventually got to 12 drops and had to stop as side effects every step of the way dreadful. Psychiatrist kept telling me to stick with it and my body would get used to it.  Eventually down to 8 drops. Bad reactions throughout the time I was on it

Have been on this until may 2017. Stopped over two weeks. Felt fine for 5 weeks after initial dizziness, nightmares, nausea, insomnia.

Given diazepam by gp and told to take them when anxiety bad. Have only taken them very rarely as they frighten me.

Last two weeks severe anxiety returned and feeling hopeless

11July 2017. Cipralex 2mg. Anxiety, nausea still severe

13 July 2017 Cipralex 1mg due to advice of too high dosage  by kind person on thus site. so dropped from 2mg to 1mg and feelings of anxiety still at severe. As well as nausea, headaches, fatigue.

15 July still feeling extremely anxious verging on panic. Nausea, feelings of fainting, fatigue. Lots of head pains

3 August. Three weeks into trying to stabilise on one drop of cipralex. Still have waking from 4am. Sporadic upset stomach. Nausea.  High anxiety.  Throbbing/burning in nether regions seems to have eased for time being but stabbing/burning in calves of legs. Tinnitus. Occasional half to whole better days but mainly still struggling. Fatigue

Hello everyone,

Is anyone able to tell me how I might be able to find out if a particular medication is available in the European Union or in a specific European country (Belgium or Germany, but preferably Belgium)? Here in Australia, we have a government department that does that (the  Therapeutic Goods Administration), but I can't find the equivalent European body.

Thanks!
B

Hello Europeans!

I'm from Spain, I can see this problem is spread all over the world...

Two years ago, after suffering an adverse reaction to an antidepressant called amitriptyline I decided to look for support among victims because I found denial in the medical community.

I was prescribed this medication for a bladder problem and I ended up having a psychotic episode with hallucinations and a long withdrawal period that left my breathing and sleep impaired.

I decided to do activism to raise awareness and find a community of people who had similar problems with these types of drugs in my own country.

We created a website and today we are moving a campaign in Spain but also trying to help other people in Irland ( stephen's voice initiative )  and wherever is nedded, as we think we must all collaborate with our stories in order to change the law in every country.

This is the campaign, ( http://www.libertadyempoderamiento.net/campaign/ ) the English version of it as the rest of the website is in Spanish, please read and if you'd like to collaborate, don't hesitate to contact us at libertadyempoderamiento (at symbol) gmail (dot) com

More information in this SA topic:  campaign-and-petition-psychiatric-drugs-victims-speak-out-spain-but-anyone-can-sign

Thanks, and best wishes for all of you you are trying to overcome this nightmare.
