Tilea: Tapering venlafaxine

Hey Tilea -

Even my carpel tunnel symptoms seem worse....

Maybe it's my own experience, but anytime I hear about tendonitis I now think about thyroid testing.  It is how I know that my thyroid is acting up - my joints feel weak, vulnerable, and easily injured - and old injuries flare up.

These drugs really whack the endocrine system around, and your thyroid may be needing some help.

You are still changing your dose every time your symptoms change.  This is destabilising you.

Keep your dose the same every day.  At the most, you can gradually move what time of day you take it - but please, stay on the same dose.  Do not move your dose until your symptoms are better.  Then wait another month before changing your dose again.

Your eosophil count will come down, as you gradually taper your dose.  Readings that you get while in withdrawal are bound to be a little crazy.  Let it go, you are doing the best you can.  Coming down too quickly will harm you more than an out-of-whack lab result.

When we have symptoms, our first response and strategy is to do something.  But in withdrawal the best strategy is to do nothing.  Especially when you are having symptoms!  It is hard to do, and against our nature - but time - patience and diligence, and being gentle to yourself are the best ways to heal from withdrawal.

Please stop bouncing your dose.  There is a delayed response to dose changes, that can affect you 6 months or more down the line.

Delayed Onset of Withdrawal Symptoms

Same dose, same time.  Every day.  Hold until your symptoms settle - then hold for another month.

"Easy, easy - just go easy and you'll finish." - Hawaiian Kapuna

Holding is hard work, holding is a blessing. Give your brain time to heal before you try again.

My suggestions are not medical advice, you are in charge of your own medical choices.

A lifetime of being prescribed antidepressants that caused problems (30 years in total). At age 35 flipped to "bipolar," but was not diagnosed for 5 years. Started my journey in Midwest United States. Crossed the Pacific for love and hope; currently living in Australia.   CT Seroquel 25 mg some time in 2013.   Tapered Reboxetine 4 mg Oct 2013 to Sept 2014 = GONE (3 years on Reboxetine).     Tapered Lithium 900 to 475 MG (alternating with the SNRI) Jan 2014 - Nov 2014, tapered Lithium 475 mg Jan 2015 -  Feb 2016 = GONE (10 years  on Lithium).  Many mistakes in dry cutting dosages were made.

The tedious thread (my intro):  JanCarol ☼ Reboxetine first, then Lithium

The happy thread (my success story):  JanCarol - Undiagnosed  Off all bipolar drugs
