I'm so sorry, kiki. Please consult with the neurologist -- make it an emergency appointment if you can. It sounds like you need to go off Abilify.

It could be that it's not the decrease in the drug, but the length of time you're taking it that is exacerbating your movement disorder.

Kiki,

You are down to 2.5mg of Abilify.  How did you get here, did you drop an entire mg, or go more slowly?

I am truly sorry you hare having issues with a movement disorder!  That can be very scary, but as Alto suggested, get in with a specialist as soon as you can, and just cover the movement disorder issue.

What are your current side effects from your taper?  I assume you are having stronger movement issues.  There are 2 movement issues if you have not had an actual diagnosis, one is Tardive (meaning delayed, as in onset) Dystonia, the other, Tardive Dyskenesia.  One has medications that work for it, and both have treatments that go from minor to major. I ask as I believe we discussed this before, if not, I apologise.

Hang in there!

Skeeter

Current meds: Lexapro 20mg, Valium 6.25mg
Current status: September 2018 forced to go down to 10mg of Valium/Diazepam from around 15mg, with the plan to have me totally of in 2 more months. I was not given a chance to give input at tapering at this speed, please go much, much slower. Luckily I found a new doctor, but was thrown off course by my rapid taper, as of 2/19 am down to 6.25mg, and am stable. Will update with dates of taper ASAP.

I am NOT a doctor. My opinions are just that- MY opinions, based on my personal experiences and research, but your experience and reactions may differ greatly, we are all different! I maintain that a doctor educated in withdrawal is the best place to get info or to get the "go ahead" before changing your medications in any way!

Hello there. Can someone kindly help me or give me advice? I 've recently received medical tests and IQ results. They didn't send them to me. I got them through a subject access request.

Are they suggesting any kind of therapy?

Hi Altostrata,

I don't need therapy. I read that the results were 101 IQ.

Please can you tell me if this is low.

I read that Linda Andre had an IQ of 118 after ect. They are saying that my IQ is normal. How can that be?

I just did an internet search for what is an average iq and was able to find the following:

https://www.iqtestforfree.net/iq-scale.html

Over 140 – Genius or almost genius
120 – 140 – Very superior intelligence
110 – 119 – Superior intelligence
90 – 109 – Average or normal intelligence
80 – 89 – Below average
70 – 79 – Borderline deficiency in intelligence
Under 70 – Feeble-mindedness

I don't know anything about what your test results mean. If you're arguing with them about a drastic drop in IQ due to ECT or psychiatric drug treatment, I don't know anything about that.

Can't answer any of your questions, sorry.

Actually it's below average. If linda andre had 118 after the ect then how can 101 be average. It's worse than average.

I'm sorry if I upset you.  That was not my intention.

Personally I find it helpful to do some research on the internet about things which concern me.  It can sometimes help me to gain a better and/or different perspective on things.

Some things that you might consider:

We can't compare ourselves with what has happened to other people.

Specifically related to IQ tests, any comparison made would be better made with a test, of the same type (there are various types of IQ tests), that you took previously.  Examples:

  • Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children
  • Differential Ability Scales
  • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults
  • Peabody Individual Achievement Test

Here is another site, Medical News Today, which also states that an IQ of 100 is average.  https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/327241#testing

This is at the bottom of the page.  Please note the text that I have highlighted.

"Summary

The average IQ score in the U.S. is around 100.

However, although IQ scores may provide some insight into a person’s overall intellectual capability, people should avoid placing too much emphasis on the results of these tests.

Cultural factors, nutrition, access to education, and illness can all play a role in how well a person will score on an IQ test."

Kiki, we don't know anything here about intelligence tests or what yours means. ChessieCat was only trying to understand. It's unfair to pick a fight with her.

I sympathize with your outrage but we can't help you here.

Ok Altostrata, firstly I wasn't picking a fight. That is false. I was merely defending myself, ok. I was offended and should be able to defend myself when people intentionally or unintentionally behave in this way.

And now we should all be intelligent enough to just drop it before thing escalate and we have to start having to issue warnings.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

I think you're really cruel. So much for helping people but when it gets completed it becomes even too unbelievable for you to believe. So what is the point of this website. You're chucking me out because I don't have a happy ending. I'm sorry but if there's anyone who's been affected it's me. I have been diagnosed with severe cognitive impairments and it's down to the meds. It's not fair to keep people cheated this way by expecting everyone to have a good outcome even after so many years. I definitely don't have a good outcome  and I'm not exaggerating it. You tell chessy cat not to speak to me the way she did because I have severe neurological damage

No, kiki. we just don't know anything about your problem. This is a support site for tapering and withdrawal syndrome, not all kinds of adverse effects from psychiatric treatment.

You don't seem to have withdrawal syndrome. We can't answer your questions and we don't have any advice to give you.

We're sympathetic but your situation is out of our scope.
