My husband has given up, he said he doesn't know what to do anymore, now I'm alone, I just want to crawl in a corner and die.

10 years citalopram 30mg- tapered down in December 15/2015- Jan 15/2016 to 20mg for two weeks, ten for one week and five for another week, then stopped, less then two weeks later, sheer hell broke lose with debilitating withdrawal symptoms.

Update-- reinstated 5mg of celexa on feb 5-- within hours noticed immediate difference in WD symptoms-- Holding holding and more holding.

Updose- March 23/16 too 10mg- relieved the harsher head symptoms- current symptoms headaches, dizzy, numbness and tingling in my head.

Benzos- 2015-Ativan on and off for 6 months 2mg- switched to clonazepam nov 2015- 2mg till Jan 2016 Zopiclone 7.5mg nov-dec 2015- was tapered off over 4weeks- Currently in protracted withdrawal. ????????????????????????????????

Update- ended up in the hospital April 18/16 major suicidal ( never had that before) was admitted/ been there ever since, put me back to full dose celexa 30mg no drugs added, IAM FINALLY STABLE AFTER 3 months of tortuous hell. Got a great physiatrist that new all about WD, he will help me taper properly in a couple of months at 5% deductions holding 8 weeks. I never want to relive that hell again.

Udate- stable and holding, doing things slowly is key.

Ali.  They all say that at some point . Try to crawl out of your corner , and go and  " educate " him .  I found that when my husband finally understood , it was " smooth sailing " , after that .  Have you read " Anatomy Of An Epidemic "  by Robert Whittaker ?   I would suggest you read it and then either get your husband to read it or if he's busy , like mine was / is , then just read it to him !  Not all of it , but some of the more important parts . Once he understands , it will be so much easier , for you both.

You can do this , Ali .

The sad thing is Ali, I feel so mentally out of it, that I couldn't be bothered with him, I have no feelings for anyone, it's the worst, I'll give the book a go.

I understand. I've been there , but you will come out of this , and you don't want to have any regrets if you can avoid them . If you can keep him informed  it will help you both , now and in the future. I'm sure you don't want to give up on your marriage , just because you went through a temporary blip.  You have to remember that this is " impermanent  ".

Aspirin shouldn't cause any trouble. I've had pretty good success with it.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

If I were in your shoes I would bump to 15mg for a month and see how you are feeling at the end of 4-6 weeks... If you're still bad consider bumping to 20mg.

I've dropped too fast several times in the past, and while it takes some time to adjust to overshooting an updose, in my experience it's much quicker than updosing too little and waiting a month to find out over and over.

Tapering from 20mg to 10mg doesn't take long at all in the big scheme of things... Just my 2c, there are others in this forum much more experienced than I but looking at your history before I was fairly convinced that it would be rough to try to reinstate so low as you did (5mg) after being at 30mg for 10 years.

For me at least, and it effects everyone differently, updosing a little past equilibrium has sorted itself out within 4-6 weeks.

06/13 - Celexa 30mg Klonopin 2 mg

02/14 Celexa 30mg (Successfully completed 32 week Klonopin taper dropped 1/8 every two weeks)

Celexa Taper: 06/14 25mg 07/14 20mg 09/14 15mg 10/14 17.5mg 11/14 15mg 12/14 12.5mg 01/15 20mg (updose after going too fast bad w/d for 3-4 weeks after) 05/15 17.5mg 06/15 15mg 07/15 13.5mg 08/15 11.75mg 09/15 10mg 10/15 7.5mg 11/15 5mg 12/15 3.33mg 01/16 2.5mg 2/16 0mg (CT from 2.5mg) 3/16 (3-4 weeks after CT bad W/D symptoms, updose) 1.67mg

Hello Alto,

Things turned for the worst and was major suicidal, which I have never been in my life, my husband took me to my doc and I was sent to the hospital, I've been working with my phyciatrist for 2 weeks now and iam feeling way better, it was nice that he new all about withdrawal and what it can do, I went back up to my original dose of 30mg and feel better, no drugs added, just the celexa, he is a strict phyciatrist and I love that about him, once iam fully stable he will help me taper properly, I told him about this site and he said you guys are absolutely right in the way to go about it ☺ I have hope again, I can say I feel good ☺ thank you for asking. 2003 Paroxetine (20mg I think) daily for 5 months due to extreme anxiety before final exams and stopped cold turkey. From 2003 onwards I have suffered with extreme anxiety, akathisia, severe muscle tension & digestive problems whenever off I'm off anti-depressants.

2007 Clonazepam (unsure of dose) - took approximately 100 tablets to try and self medicate for anxiety.

2007-09 Amitryptyline 10mg - was advised to take this "as and when needed" for anxiety.

April/May 2011 Diazepam 2mg - 2 week course followed by complete inability to sleep upon finishing so started Citalopram 40mg and I was able to sleep again.

Mid 2012 Diazepam 10mg - took approximately 100 tablets.

Mid 2012 Started Citalopram taper - 5mg reductions every month or two, severe withdrawal symptoms throughout taper.

Apr 2013 Completely off Citalopram and continued to have severe withdrawal.

Oct 2013 Completely fell to pieces mentally and alongside had a whole host of debilitating physical symptoms too. I went to the doctors who performed whole batteries of tests but had no idea what was wrong with me. They tried me on Sertraline and Amitryptyline to which I had terrible reactions which made symptoms worse. Eventually got put on Nortryptyline 25mg, which I tolerated and over 3 months withdrawal symptoms started to abate.

Mid 2014 discovered survivingantidepressants.org and hallelujah! I knew what was wrong with me - slow taper FTW!

Late 2014 & 2015 Reduced Nortryptyline 22.5mg & 20mg respectively in November & December of 2014. In 2015 Tapered Nortryptyline from 20mg to 10 mg in 2mg increments. Withdrawal symptoms with each dose reduction are debilitating but in a much different way to Citalopram.

Thank you funky, I feel stable and yes iam very lucky that full dose worked, as soon as I went back all symptoms went away one by one. I don't know what I would have done without the help I've received. I will see my physiatrist weekly and we will come up with a good SLOW SLOWWWWWWWW taper, hopefully it's manageable. Thanks for dropping in, hope your doing well Ali

That's brilliant news.

I didn't discover survivingantidepressants.org until after I'd already been reinstated on a different antidepressant. I always wonder if things would have worked out better if I'd reinstated Citalopram instead

Thank you for coming back to share these positive developments.

So you went to your full dose in May following a very fast taper in January after which you reinstated first 1 mg, then up to 5 and up to 10? After each updose you felt better for a while and then things would continue getting worse until you went to all the way up to 30 mg which you stopped taking almost 4 months before.

I'm not sure if this is the right summary but how did the things go after that? What were some of the milestone between May and now 5 months later?

Current: 9/2022 Xanax 0.08, Lexapro 2

2020 Xanax 0.26 (down from 2 mg in 2013), Lexapro 2.85 mg (down from 5 mg 2013)

Amitriptyline (tricyclic AD) and clonazepam for 3 months to treat headache in 1996

It's been a year and 5 months since reinstating to my full dose. After reinstating the full dose, over about 3 months I would say all my symptoms slowly one by one went away. Sometimes they creep back up here and there, but nothing compared to the nightmare I lived. Since then I wanted to make sure I was in a good spot mentally to start a slow taper, was in the phych ward and don't ever want to be there again, although they are the ones that made me better by reinstating full dose. So the time has come to do it right and get off properly. Ali

Nice!

Every new coping skill or way we can "trick" our body into either releasing good chemicals or not inducing anxiety is a big help!
