There are many people who have come here in similar situations. Possibly not going off like a firecracker, but having withdrawal symptoms from going cold turkey or lowering their dose too quickly. The reaction you had was most probably due to withdrawal from your paroxetine. Going from 40 to 20 is a 50% reduction. This site recommends 10% tapering of the previous dose followed by 4 weeks (or more if needed) to allow the brain to adapt to not getting as much of the drug. I also reduced my dose by 50% and had an extremely foggy head for just over 2 weeks prior to reinstating. So that we are better able to make suggestions Please put your Withdrawal History in Signature. Please include ALL drugs, dates, doses and how you decreased/increased. Once we have this information we will be able to assess whether reinstating is a possibility and if so, how much to reinstate. If you decide to reinstate I suggest you wait for the staff to suggest a dose. DO NOT start taking 40 as it will probably be too much. Care taken over by Dr Lucire in March 2013 , decreased last 30mg at 2mg per week over 3 months. July 21 , 2013- last dose of Cymbalta Protracted withdrawal syndrome kicked in badly Jan.2014 Unrelenting akathisia until May 2014. Voluntary hosp. admission. Cocktail of Seroquel, Ativan and mirtazapine and I was well enough to go home after 14 days. Stopped all hosp. meds in next few months. July 2014 felt v.depressed - couldn't stop crying. Started pristiq 50mg. Felt improvement within days and continued to improve, so stayed on 50mg for 8 months. Began taper 28 Feb. 2015. Pristiq 50mg down to 45mg. Had one month of w/d symptoms. He gave me a choice of what drug I take paroxetine40Mg, Fluoxetine,20Mg, Alprazolam.2Mg and amphetimine salt combo. The choice was paroxetine or amphetamine Salt combo. ! week into it my vision and balance was so bad at times I didn't drive . I called he said it was normal, then came insomonai with that came fatigue then the nausra and I saw purple spots, amber spots my glasses didnt work. I craved sweets. After the 3rd week I woke up with what was like firecrackers exploding and bright flashes of light. When it stopped . I had tremendous presure in my eyes and head, I dot shingles on my head around my eyes and things got worse. They are adverse reactions and a sign that you should not be on those drugs. When we know how long ago you cut from 40mg to 20mg then we can help you with a plan to get better. Hope to hear from you soon, Karen 2010 Fluoxetine 20mg. 2011 Escitalopram 20mg. 2013 Tapered badly and destabilised CNS. Effexor 150mg. 2015 Begin using info at SurvivingAntidepressants. Cut 10% - bad w/d 2 months, held 1 month. Micro-tapering: four weekly 0.4% cuts, hold 4 weeks (struggling with symptoms). 8 month hold. 2017 Micro-tapering: four weekly 1% cuts, hold 4 weeks (symptoms almost non-existent). 2020 Still micro-tapering. Just over 2/3 of the way off effexor. Minimal symptoms, - and sleeping well. Supplements: Fish oil, vitamin C, iron, oat-straw tea, nettle tea. 2023 December - Now on 5 micro-beads Effexor. Minimal symptoms but much more time needed between drops. Symptoms begin to increase. 2024 April - Updosed to 6 microbeads - immediate increase in symptoms for 4 days. Decreased to 5 microbeads. This incedent with the paroxetine happened sept 29 or eaearly morning the the 30 th. The great thing is my to be ex- wife gave me divorce papers 5 days later. my doc putme right back on 40 mg as soon as i told him and yesterday 3/30/16 I had to cancel my therepy appt because of my eyes were swollen and my head feels like it is pressurized and very dizzy my head was ringing I have music playing in my ear. Tonight I'm better its the waves and windows. I haven't made it down to 10 mg. The doctor started me on 10 mgs in 2002. 1/6/ 2016 my doc told me i could stop the fluoxetine. I told him i needed to go slower. I was done with my taper by mid march. I had an appointment I had to cancel with my therapest She Told The Dooc i sounded confused which has never went away since sept 29 2015. He pesonaly caled me and told me to please start the 20mg of fluoxetine again? My current meds are 20mg fluoxetine, 40mg paroxetine, 2 mg alprazolam and 60 mg of amphetamine salt combo. I was off the paroxetine for 6 months in 2013-2014 remember though i was taking 20 mg of pure oxycodone . I'm not tapering now. I never had no support from my wife. I am so thankful tohave you respond with affection. Reinstated 20mg fluoxetine , what date? It's going to take a good couple of months for your brain to stabilize again. You are not retarded , and your brain will recover. I did see a mistake in 2014 and 2015. With all the info I gave I had it spread out and then oh yeah they tried this too and so on. I will try to explain, the tr 2013 my family doctor put me in the suboxone program the suboxone was terrible it interacts with fluoxetine and its a narcotic I don't no why they say its not. Thats not a solution its a substitution I get off subject all the time sorry Mid NOVEMBER 2013 - Mid JANUARY 2014 I took suboxone I kept telling him I can't function on this so he took me off, and you have withdrawels from it also. I wasn't taking amphatimine salt combo until JUNE 2014. The medical place wanted nothing to do with me my family doctor asked if I could go someplace else. In the 2015 coluomn You have alprazolam twice the 60 Should be ampetamine salt combo. March 29 2016 last week My phyc called me at home and askedme start 20 mg fluoxetine.. It has been almost 7 months since I had the firecrackers and almost every morning when I wake I spend 2hrs icing my eye balls and whatever arterys are around the eyes nose temple and forehead my eyes and head feel like its got pressure inside. I'm going to see a nuerolgist. As Fresh said this is so that it can be seen whenever you post and means that it can be seen at a glance. It also means that we don't have to sift through the posts trying to find the information.
