☼ Scallywag: Cymbalta - skipping doses didn't work, time to taper

Hi scally,

I really love those graphs of yours.  It's amazing how things can make more sense using a picture.

Hi Chessie - Thanks! There's a reason for the expression, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Day 5 at 5.6 mg (52 beads): So far so good. I had a few seconds last night where my left eyelid was twitching moderately. It was a little annoying but not a big deal.

hi Scallywag

I was just wondering what these are? I'm guessing the M is magnesium and the S is selenium...? what would the rest be?

Minerals: Mg, Se, Cr, I, V

Mg: magnesium

Se: selenium

Cr: chromium

I:  iodine

V:  vanadium

thanks Scalllywag,

curious what the vanadium is for?
I was told by a psychiatrist to take selenium when I was on either lithium or lamictal, I forget which. He said that the drug depleted minerals in our bodies.

I used to take a trace mineral supplement but it has so many different minerals in it, I worry about taking something like that now.

I don't know how much these minerals can affect WD symptoms, but I did feel like there was difference when I ran out of chromium a while back. Don't recall what the difference was glad to get more.

Hi Scally, glad to see your taper is still going well and that the SAD light is working well for you. Slow and steady tapering - you are indeed the proof in the pudding. A great example of how to do it right!

Best wishes and continued success on the way "down".

Thanks Wishes! I've been very lucky so far.

Day 11 at 5.6 mg: Except for 5 or 6 eye-twitching episodes per day lasting about 10 seconds each, all is well in scallyworld.

Day 15 on 52 beads: Seems as if the twitching may be getting less frequent; yesterday I had 3 episodes instead of 6 though one lasted for about 30 seconds.

Yay!  You ARE doing so well.  I got a bit of an eyelid twitch the other day.......really brief and I went and looked in the mirror and could see it........weird they are.

I like my trace minerals alot.  Hoping maybe that I can work down and off some supplements one day.....seems/sounds like a lot that I take but it is an easy routine.  I will probably stay with the trace minerals though.......and man oh man......I need my epsom salt baths too!  I must really be a pirate soul too.......lol.

Yahoy and woohoo.....5.6 mg. now and only batting an eyelash or two!!

Best,

mmt

Update Day 4 at 50 beads, 5.4 mg:  I reduced by a smaller amount (3.8%) on Wednesday to see if I can keep the eyelid twitches at bay. They did stop last weekend, March 11 & 12. If I have no symptoms after this dose drop, I'll try a similarly sized one in 7 - 10 days.

Thanks for your post mmt. It's always good to know that a symptom is shared and not some unique freaky thing that happens just to me.

Just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm thinking of you and rooting for you as you continue to taper. I hope that eye twitch thing doesn't come back.

I'm coming out of a 3-week wave of feeling negative, irritable and hopeless. Right now it seems as if I was being held in Azkaban under the control of the Dementors.

"They don't need walls and water to keep the prisoners in, not when they're trapped inside their own heads, incapable of a single cheerful thought. Most go mad within weeks."

Remus Lupin, The Prisoner of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling

Months ago I wrote that I don't notice that I'm in a wave. That was mostly true this time, though last week I started to clue in. This morning I woke up and realized that I was feeling positive and capable. Sure glad I didn't have to make any major decisions while in that funk.

Day 4 of 47 beads, 5.1 mg: So far so good. Taking a smaller reduction last time seems to have prevented the eye twitching.  if the same occurs this time, I'll be decreasing 5% every 10 days equivalent to 10% every 3 weeks, a rate that was working for me in the fall. I may hold for 4 weeks after 4 decreases just to see if I need to slow down.

Wow, that's a great description of withdrawal from the Harry Potter book. Perfect - "trapped inside their own heads".

I'm so glad to hear you're coming out of your wave. I hope it leads to a window.  :)

Hi Scallywag,

So sorry to hear you got hit by withdrawals after all. I was hoping you would make it all the way without having to deal with it again.

I love your Harry Potter Quote. It is really perfect for what we're going through. At least you made it out before you went mad :D

Hugs and healing.

Hi scally and shoot........remember we discussed the sudden frequency of cavities awhile back?  Well I got one more filled today.  I haven't been doing the biotene rinse(for dry mouth) very much though in the last >6mos. so I will do it now.  Ugh......could be worse I know but no cavities for decades........ then during W/D suddenly I am getting them.  Pffft.

Hope you are doing a bit better and out of the control of the Dementors!

Best,

Belated hello and "thanks for the visit" to tntd, Shep, manymoretodays, and Happy2Heal.

My last post in here was at the end of March. It doesn't feel that it's been 3 months, but I can't argue with the time stamps. They are what they are. I really have been delinquent in keeping my own introduction topic updated! In this case, no news has been good news.

I am doing better than okay. I'm dealing with two difficult situations in my life right now so my time on self-focus hasn't been related to withdrawal but on working out solutions in those 2 areas.

A few weeks since my last post and a dose decrease.  I'm still doing just fine, a few twitches of my left eyelid each day for 4-5 days after a decrease but then that resolves completely by day 8.

Hi tntd & Miko!  Thanks for checking up on me and saying hi!

Miko, the two situations are sorted out. New lessons learned, hopefully I'll remember them in similar circumstances! :o

You were down to roughly 5 mg when you last posted re dosage, are you doing OK now.  I realise that you have probably moved on to other things and are completely well, but it is good for us on the site to know outcomes.

It would be great to have an update.

Scally,

Just a note to offer my congratulations on your taper going so smoothly and you being in what appears to be a great place after getting off the med.

Very happy for (and more than a tad envious of) you to be perfectly honest (and I always am).

Enjoy your freedom!

Best,

Andy

I think I have written elsewhere on SA that I am envious of your success, but also very pleased for you.

This is proof that some do find it easier than others, such as my daughter who had fewer symptoms giving up sertraline in terms of mood/nausea etc than having a contraceptive IUD inserted until it settled!

Sorry if that is too much information but it is exactly how my daughter described it!

I wonder why some find it easier than others?  Finding that out might help those that struggle.

Joy
