' too high a dose'

I am trying to find out what her dose was and so far I can't find it.

"A woman who suffers from depression has admitted killing her friend after she called at her house for tea and a chat.

Marlene Torlay, 61, attacked Mary McCracken, 59, with scalding water, a hammer and a knife sharpener, at her home in East Kilbride, in October 2012.

The Crown accepted her guilty plea to a reduced charge of culpable homicide due to diminished responsibility.

Torlay was ordered to be detained under an interim compulsion order at Royal Edinburgh Hospital's Orchard Clinic.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that she had been prescribed too high a dose of an anti-depressant which could cause acute withdrawal symptoms, and may have missed a dose of the drug.

WARNING THIS WILL BE LONG
Had a car accident in 85
Codeine was the pain med when I was release from hosp continuous use till 89
Given PROZAC by a specialist to help with nerve pain in my leg 89-90 not sure which year
Was not told a thing about it being a psych med thought it was a pain killer no info about psych side effects I went nuts had hallucinations. As I had a head injury and was diagnosed with a concussion in 85 I was sent to a head injury clinic in 1990 five years after the accident. I don't think they knew I had been on prozac I did not think it a big deal and never did finish the bottle of pills. I had tests of course lots of them. Was put into a pain clinic and given amitriptyline which stopped the withdrawal but had many side effects. But I could sleep something I had not done in a very long time the pain lessened. My mother got cancer in 94 they switched my meds to Zoloft to help deal with this pressure as I was her main care giver she died in 96. I stopped zoloft in 96 had withdrawal was put on paxil went nutty quit it ct put on resperidol quit it ct had withdrawal was put on Effexor... 2years later celexa was added 20mg then increased to 40mg huge personality change went wild. Did too fast taper off Celexa 05 as I felt unwell for a long time prior... quit Effexor 150mg ct 07 found ****** 8 months into withdrawal learned some things was banned from there in 08 have kept learning since. there is really not enough room here to put my history but I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things especially any of the drugs mentioned above.
One thing I would like to add here is this tidbit ALL OPIATES INCREASE SEROTONIN it is not a huge jump to being in chronic pain to being put on an ssri/snri and opiates will affect your antidepressants and your thinking.

As I do not update much I will put my quit date Nov. 17 2007 I quit Effexor cold turkey.

"Recommended maximum dose is now 40mgs due to Citalopram causing heart problems."

I was on 40mg plus 150 effexor..

The name McCracken stands out as it was the name of the doc who first put me on prozac for pain so many long years ago.  Now a McCracken is murdered by a friend taking a SSRI weird to me.

Rx'd 40 mg citalopram "double the recommended dose". Okay. Normal dose was not enough so whack her neurons with more and flip them to the homicide setting instead? (What, you did not know there was a 'homicide setting' for these drugs?)

I hate how the news reports framed it as this occurring because 'she was depressed' instead of saying she might have become deranged as a result of either the dose being too high or she missed a dose.

Why do I read this cr@p so early in the morning? Just sets off my rant neurons and my fingers start foaming at the mouth...... but hey, it's entertaining in the news world which is why stuff like this gets printed. Have you ever seen a headline about a 61 year old lady who successfully conquered depression by exercise, diet and mindfulness training? No? You never will, that does not bleed so it never leads.......

July 2016 I have decided to leave my story here at SA unfinished. I have left my contact information in my profile for anyone who wishes to talk to me. I have a posting history spanning nearly 4 years and 3000+ posts all over the site.

Thank you to all who participated in my recovery. I'll miss talking to you but know that I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines, suffering and rejoicing with you in spirit, as you go on in your journey.

As I have mentioned previously, several years ago, I became severely agitated on 5mg of Celexa.   There is no doubt in my mind that if I had continued to take it, very bad things would have happened as I was already experiencing extreme anger.   So CW, great point about not being necessarily saved from adverse reactions from a so called "normal" dose.

By the way, many years ago, I attended a journalism event in which a six year old already knew that only sensationalistic headlines or pictures were what sold newspapers.   Pretty depressing.

Drug cocktail 1995 - 2010
Started taper of Adderall, Wellbutrin XL, Remeron, and Doxepin in 2006
Finished taper on June 10, 2010

Temazepam on a PRN basis approximately twice a month - 2014 to 2016

Beginning in 2017 - Consumption increased to about two times per week

April 2017 - Increased to taking it full time for insomnia

A 6 year old!! Bwahahaha!! Great parents and kid. But I bet he'll still get fooled into taking useless drugs one day.....the media is insidious and relentless and not to mention ubiquitous. Ads in the crapper in the subways touting the latest drugs sneak under your skin and make them seem a part of the fabric of life, these poisons.

Great you got my meaning, I had bet myself the homicide comment would go over everyone's head.

According to the second link I posted the recommended dose is 40mg I wonder who is right... as I said I was on 150 effexor and 40mg of celexa I had not memory of agreeing to increase the dose from 20 so when I started to feel bad and noticed the dose increase I went back to 20.. a few months later I stopped it completely as I still felt ill.

drug interaction checker says this I can't believe I have never checked it before

Serious - Use AlternativePotential for serious interaction; regular monitoring by your doctor required or alternate medication may be needed

citalopram oral and venlafaxine oral

citalopram oral and venlafaxine oral both increase affecting serotonin levels in the blood. Too much serotonin is a potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that lead to shock. Combination may increase risk of potentially life-threatening reactions such as serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a neurological disorder).

regular monitoring once a month for ten minutes or was it two months can't recall...

ok that is enough of this site for me for now...

peace all
