BAT: Is it anxiety or withdrawal?

Apace41 - thank you for your reply.

Does your joints or body crack or make noise when you move?

Yes.  I feel like I'm 55 going on 75.  Not clear to me how much of this is withdrawal (much of it) and how much of it is arthritis and general wear and tear (some of it). I've held off on things like a potential hip replacement because I want to see what improves once the worst of withdrawal is over.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Apace41 - what other symptoms do you have? Are your symptoms from stopping klonopin or tapering zoloft or both?

In June 2014 I was taking Celexa for 2 days, 25 mg zoloft 8 weeks, 10 mg Paxil 3 months and 10 mg Lexapro 1 month tapered off in 2 wks.. Was on a total of 6 months had side effects to them all. Went off and had my first panic attack a month later in January 2015. In March 2015 was having stomach issues and was put on Xanax for a week Dr. Said it was anxiety. End of that week woke up heart racing so was put back on Lexapro 5 MG and the next night is when my sleep got messed up. Literally not sleeping

Was it the Xanax or lexapro?? Went off sleep on and off and taking Xanax on and off. The end of April 2015 tried Buspar for 2 days and had side effects and could not sleep at all. Middle of May 2015 went on Ambien and lexapro again. Inner vibration started. Switched to paxil. Went off Ambien in June 2015 and off Paxil July 2015. October 2015 got worse went of zoloft 12.5 mg through December 2015. I was tolerating what I was going through January and February 2016. Then March got worse with horrible panic. Tried hypnotherapy in May 2016 a couple times couldn't Relax when she started counting backwards it freaked me out. Started not sleeping again in May. Went back on Xanax for 2 months May-July 2016. Tried liquid Prozac 5 mg then 10 mg side effects July - August then switched Zoloft 12.5 mg August - September 2016. Been off antidepressants since September 5, 2016. Been off Xanax since July 28, 2016, but I have taken it 8 other times since then through May 2017. Have symptoms going on with agoraphobia. Is this withdrawal??

May 2017 feeling horrible and more intense symptoms.

There is really no way to know how much of what anyone feels is coming from one drug versus the other -- at least not where a benzo and an SSRI are concerned because of the overlapping symptoms.  My guess is that it is some of both.  Benzos, as I understand it, due to their fat solubility, get deposited in the marrow of bones and can slowly "leach out" over the course of up to 5 years.  How accurate this is I'm not sure but, assuming that is a ballpark, I would think that I could be having benzo symptoms from the drug for up to another couple of years and then potentially longer still from the full withdrawal process.  Common sense, however, would dictate that over time the bulk of the symptoms are coming from the drug I am still on as opposed to the one I finished tapering 2.5 years ago.  Of course, there is nothing common sensical about this process.

My other symptoms include:

  • Varying levels of disordered sleep (from complete insomnia last Spring to where I am now which is usually about 6 hours a night give or take)
  • Anxiety that comes and goes, most notably health anxiety
  • DP/DR that seems to be pretty constant although varying in degree
  • A fair amount of anhedonia
  • Increased fatigue
  • Numbness and tingling in the extremities
  • A sense of weakness
  • Periodic tongue and mouth issues, combined with some difficulty getting thoughts out (exacerbated by dp/dr where I "see myself' having the conversation)

The joint and body pain is a constant symptom.

BAT,

I know you are suffering but you are not alone.  I told you my symptoms.  I have tons of pain all over including my face, jaw, neck, shoulders, etc.

It is all a normal part of withdrawal (which is not normal in and of itself).

I have both pain and tightness in the jaw and feel it in my teeth fairly regularly.  I know several people who have that fairly constantly and have gone to TMJ specialists and spent a lot of money to no avail.  The floaters issue is something that is very common.  See the following  http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/6380-vision-symptoms-floaters-snow-blurred-or-dimmed-vision-etc/

Bottom line, as hard as it is to do, finding distraction so that you are not constantly self-aware and self-focused will help those sensations diminish.

What would the TMJ specialist say? Anything they did help? Did some people have it go away eventually?

It's so hard to distract when you feel so bad and have an issue getting out of the house.

I was just wondering about those issues. I'm not sure if the Ear and eye issues are because of the tight muscles in the jaw, face and head. The ears really bother.

Can someone have withdrawal induced TMJ and then go away? Or can they have the symptoms of TMJ during withdrawal but it's not TMJ just the symptoms?

Hi, Bat. It's very possible that this is all just withdrawal. Please see:Dr. Joseph Glenmullen's withdrawal symptom checklist.

For anything you are unsure of please google Surviving Antidepressants.org./the topic title and it will usually come up as a thread. Most topics are covered.

BAT,

As I'm sure you are aware by now, reinstating after 9 months falls into the proverbial "crapshoot" category.  Some are helped and some are not.  There is also an outside chance that one can react adversely to the reintroduction of the medicine.

If you are going to try reinstating, you should do so at a very low level because your CNS is undoubtedly quite sensitized at this point.  We advocate trying to find the lowest possible dosage that provides relief.  Thus, I would advise starting at 1mg and titrating up in 1mg increments every 4-5 days to see if you can find a point where you see symptomatic improvement.

Best,

Andy

Yes. Start very very low and build up. When I reinstated it had immediate effect on my body as if I had taken a tranquilizer.

My gf reinstated zoloft at 25mg. She was fine, but it had been "only" 5 months since she stopped.

I would reinstate at 6mg, if you manage to cut the pills in four pieces.

Took my first SSRI sipralexa/lexapro/escitalopram in 2007 for depression. In 2010 the doctor switched me to paroxetine/seroxat/paxil for anxiety.

My paroxetine story from then on:

2010-15 from 10mg up to 20mg

jan 2016 30mg

may 2016 0mg cold turkey (don't!)

dec 2016 symptoms: anxiety, tremor (could barely stand)

jan 2017 reinstated at 7.5mg to taper in steps of 10%

...

Dose changes from may 2017 to now:

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure if this is a silly question but how do I get 1 mg out of a 25 mg pill?

Yes she was feeling depressed, empty, no lust for life. Reinstatement did help. Like with me it also had immediate impact on her. She took it for over a month. Then it got more complicated. She got pregnant (we didn’t intend it), so we had a plan to taper it off before her sixth month of pregnancy. She took 12.5mg for a couple of days and then suddenly decided to quit c/t. So now she’s off. She’s fine (except for pregnancy sickness), but obviously I’m uncertain if it will stay this way. I don’t advice what she did. I comfort myself knowing that she only took 25mg (before she had taken up to 200mg). We’ll see.

I've attached the thread on tapering off Zoloft.  To get to the smallest numbers like 1mg you need to create a liquid.  Alternatively, it comes in a liquid form but you need your doc to write a script for that.

Best,

Andy

If you think you have a sinus infection, see a doctor. If they suggest anti-biotics, ask for one that IS NOT a fluoroquinolone medication.

In 2016 the FDA strengthened its warning that fluoroquinolones, may cause sudden, serious, and potentially permanent nerve damage called peripheral neuropathy.

A partial list of fluoroquinolone medications

  • ciprofloxacin (Cipro),
  • gemifloxacin (Factive),
  • levofloxacin (Levaquin),
  • moxifloxacin (Avelox),
  • norfloxacin (Noroxin), and
  • ofloxacin (Floxin).

What about amoxicillin? Last time my daughter had sinusitis the doctor prescribed amoxicillin.

I would try to remedy it with a netipot before  you try antibiotics.

Mid 2014 - June 2016 (~ 2.5 yrs): sertraline 75mg. Under advice of my Pysch NP, weaned off in 1 month

Sept 2017 - Feb 2017 (6 months): Latuda (dose 20mg up to 80mg). Under advice of Psych NP, weaned off in 6 weeks (Jan - mid Feb). Tirtated down 20mg every 2 weeks.

Nov 2017 - Feb 2017 (3 months): lamictal 100mg. Abruptly taken off. This was the "wean": 100mg, 50mg, then off

Feb 2017: sertraline 150mg for 1 week to bring me out of a severe suicidal depression. Abruptly stopped due to serotonin syndrome. Tried to reinstate 50mg a week later, but the serotonin syndrome symptoms came back. Not possible to reinstate sertraline.

March 2017: remeron 7.5mg. Took one dose that knocked me out for two days. Refused to take it again

February 2017 - March 2017: Ativan 1mg. Took 5 pills total spread out over the course of 3 weeks. No longer taking it.

6/16/18 - 6/26: celexa 1.25mg

6/27/18 - 6/29: celexa 2.5mg, 6/29 had burning and agitation within 30min of dose

6/30/18 - present: celexa 1.25mg

If what you're dealing with is a sinus infection, you need to eliminate the infection. Antibiotics are the pharmaceutical solution; there are no OTC consumer pharma products for infection. If you want to avoid antibiotics, TryingToHoldOn's suggestion of a neti pot or nasal irrigation could be a good place to start. A web search on "nasal irrigation" and careful review of the search results could provide helpful information.

Is it true what some people have said that 6-12 months off can be a bad wave? How can someone be worse after almost a year off antidepressants then they were the first 5 months off.  It seems after the 5th month each month I felt worse.  Been off almost a year for antidepressants and xanax but within this year have taken xanax 9 other times. BAT well done on being a year off

Healing is a long journey ...for some people like myself it has been years. The first year or two I found unimaginably difficult. So yeah in wdl expect it when you least expect it.

Personally I would avoid taking a benzo even on a rare occasion. You are now drug free why not stay that way.

Taking a psychoactive drug  might have the ability to reset the drug free date. Your destabilized cns may not appreciate being hit by a benzo.

Maybe see waves as times of healing to be accepted and passed through rather than times to reach for something to swallow.

This is so true, with anything you get on these drugs, dependance, tapering, withdrawal symptoms, side effects, just silent. And if there is something mentioned then their is a serious disconnect between what is said and reality!

Thank you for replying.

I have another question hoping moderators or members can answer..

I was on and off multiple (a lot) of antidepressants, sometimes trying the same one's..  I also took xanax 2 months straight. I have been off antidepressants and xanax for a year.  But, in this year I have taken xanax 9 other times, 2 in Dec, 1 in Jan, 1 in Mar, 2 in Apr, 2 in May and 1 in June. So I haven't taken a xanax in 2 months and 1 week.  Do I start my Healing from the year Being off medicines everyday or do I start the healing 2 months ago since the last xanax? Being off antidepressants for a year done anything or did I mess it up by taking xanax those 9 times?? Thank you in advance for any information you can give me..

I imagine it would have been better if you hadn't taken the Xanax at all.  However, the times you did take it were well spaced out.

My thought is that taking the Xanax may have set your healing back by a very small amount compared to if you hadn't taken it at all.

You are off now, that is the great thing.  And hopefully in future you will use non drug ways instead of turning to Xanax.

Does anybody that has the burning skin feeling, when you scratch your skin like your arm, face, etc. Do you get that burning feeling (like the feeling of dry burning skin or the way your skin feels after an Indian burn)?

Also, anyone with bad tightness in their head that has had it for a while? My whole body feels like a hard rock.
