Dear friends...

Tomorrow it will be 4 months since my last dose of Mirtazapine. Apart from some waves which are a bit tough to manage everything is OK.... I am still working full time, i still travel to my hometown two weekends in the month to take care of my business there, i have started a new business and have to conduct meetings here and there, i still take care and enjoy walks at the park with my almost two years old daughter, i still do argue here and there with my wife...(do not tell any one for this last part...:-) ). So all in all things have returned to almost their normal way... Hey sexual life is good tooo... ;-)

Do i like my job after this ordeal...??? No, I still do not like, but i have a loan to pay and need to come at the office every day even though that gives me unpleasant time. But it is just unpleasant time, which does not push me down. I am able to sleep normally even when i have some brain fogginess or even when i have low level rumination. I know now that my thoughts are not going to kill me so whenever they arise i just stop what i am doing and wait them to run their course and go. It is a lot easire when you do not have chemicals in your system i know... but all of you with patience and perseverance will reach there.

The brain is returning into its normal functioning and that is good. I still do not have enough time to have a program of physical exercise but going out with my daughter everyday helps a lot. Taking care of her is an exercise on itself... but one that i really love... :-)

I am still not into the position to write a success story yet but i swear that i will do it one day. I really need some more time... as the waves, even though rare and shorter, are still present on some days. So whatever you are doing and feeling my friends you have to know that WD plays crazy tricks on you. Just convince yourself about the whole ordeal and wait those thoughts out. They eventually go away and you still can enjoy the windows.

I am happy i did not follow the doctors, but i chose to listen this forum. I ALREADY HAVE MY LIFE BACK AT almost 90%.

All the best and keep fighting your fights friend. You will prevail.

An excellent update Santino, I'm so glad that things are going well.  Things will be probably be rocky for the next several months but should continue to improve.  Don't be surprised if you get hit with a pretty heavy wave that lasts several weeks, it doesn't always happen, but it's something to watch out for.  We usually recommend that people wait about a year before writing a success story, so there is no rush.

20 years on Paxil starting at 20mg and working up to 40mg. Sept 2011 started 10% every 6 weeks taper (2.5% every week for 4 weeks then hold for 2 additional weeks), currently at 7.9mg. Oct 2011 CTed 15oz vodka a night, to only drinking 2 beers most nights, totally sober Feb 2013.

Since I wrote this I have continued to decrease my dose by 10% every 6 weeks (2.5% every week for 4 weeks and then hold for an additional 2 weeks). I added in an extra 6 week hold when I hit 10mg to let things settle out even more. When I hit 3mgpw it became hard to split the drop into 4 parts so I switched to dropping 1mgpw (pill weight) every week for 3 weeks and then holding for another 3 weeks.  The 3 + 3 schedule turned out to be too harsh so I cut back to dropping 1mgpw every 4 weeks which is working better.

Final Dose 0.016mg.     Current dose 0.000mg 04-15-2017

Congrats Santino! I’m very glad to see that you made it through to the end although the journey definitely was rough.

Thanks for stopping by my intro and giving feedback because as you know I’m just starting to deal with this mess. I was also recommended to start Mirt in order to find relief from severe insomnia (waking too early - I could fall asleep fine) after my doctor had me improperly taper too fast from another drug (Lexapro). I reluctantly accepted not knowing what I was getting into.

I guess it did help me finally sleep again and it’s probably also helping to mask other w/d effects so maybe I need to see the positive because I think the alternative would have been to reinstate Lexapro again. After the severe w/d I didn’t want to see another Lexapro pill again! And so far I haven’t had any negative effects from Mirt except for feeling sluggish early in the day but that’s appearing to wear off. I’m considering the brain fog to be due to Lexapro withdrawal and hopefully that’s right. However, I find myself getting obsessed with negative thoughts about getting off Mirt ASAP because of all the horror stories. I see that you had the same issue but you persevered so that’s reassuring. I’m just not sure I’ll be able to start tapering again very soon because I was on Lexapro 20mg for ~10 yrs. Although I want to jump now after only being on 15mg Mirt for 2 wks, I’m afraid that severe Lexapro w/d will hit me hard as soon as the Mirt is gone.

Enough about me, this is your story! Congrats again and enjoy being Mirt free with your family! You deserve it!

Hi Brassmonkey

Thanks for dropping by buddy. I have been following your topic while on my bad days and even now. You did quite good with your taper and were a sort of inspiration for me on the bad days where you put everything in doubt whether you are doing the right or the wrong thing. I can ride the waves now.... if they come i just know now that they are temporary and they do not scare me as much...
Thanks a lot...

Hey Santino.

I'm on around 3 months off Mirtazapine. How are your waves now? For me its 2-3 weeks good/bad.

Hope you are doing ok!

Started Sertraline August 2017 - 1 day - Didn't tolerate
Switched to Mirtazapine 1 day later - Worked very well..?
Took Mirtazapine for 6 months:

15mg for 4 months

7.5mg for 40 days

3.7mg for 10 days

2mg for 7 days

(Smaller doses were inaccurate, breaking pills up into segments just by eye)
Tapered completely off Mirtazapine in April 2018.

HI Carmie

Thanks for dropping by and sending me your wishing vibes. I am happy you re doing good when i see your signature. Going from 300 mg of Seroquel to 7.5 is a feast to celebrate on... 🙂

I am able to live a normal life now. Just taking currently Omega 3 and magnesium at night... and planing to go off magnesium soon. My sleep is normal and natural 7-8 hours no questions asked... anxiety is almost nonexistend and even when it appears i am able to go out of it in a matter of minutes. The depression has long gone and i can get involved in meetings, in games, in my interests, managing my business, and the most important thing have fun with my 2 years daughter... (not that i do not love my 14 years old son but the little one is special in her own kind of way)... 🙂. In a few days i will be off to an holiday with my wife and kids and i am looking soo much forward to it. Life is Beautiful... and the war i made for the last 2.5 years was worth it.

Thanks once more... and be in touch. In case you need any other info i am more than happy to relate.

All the best

Santino

Santino

HI Carmie

I notice you still have problems with the brain fog.... i was same as you some time ago. It was really one of the creaziest symptoms in WD especially for me who had to cover my work in the office as well as my personal business and life problems with that type of fog... 🙂 That is long gone now. I might have some slight deviations here and there but that's it...  no brain fog anymore.

You can read my signature for details of my tapering and i am off Remeron since 6Th of Decmebr 2017. I followed a slow approach up to the very small dose of 0.025mg where i jumped off.

October 2014- Started tapering Mirtazapine from 37.5mg.

Thank u Santino,

I’m in a window at the moment. The brain fog is not from withdrawals, it’s from chronic fatigue syndrome which I’ve had for 23 years. I have no hope of getting over it though as I’ve learnt in the last couple of years as long as my CNS is haywire.

The meds I’m on and the withdrawals play absolute havoc on the CNS and I’ve got many, many more years of tapering to go.

Thanks again, and yes I would love to keep in touch. Thank u for your encouragement and keep posting. I’m extremely positive by nature myself and I have a lot of friends that mean the world to me.

I live a day and a moment at a time and when withdrawals are bad I just keep distracting myself. My brain seems to be quite creative and I don’t understand the concept of boredom because I always have a million ideas that keep me distracted.

My brain fog is bad at the moment but I’ll check out your thread of how you got off the small doses. It feels like it’s going to take me another ten years to get off Seroquel.

Thanks again, Sending hugs 🤗

Santino!  It's so good to hear how well you are doing.

I'm so glad you have been feeling better and better.

It's also good to hear that you are sleeping well.  I have hit a period of rebound insomnia and it's been tough.  I'm trying to sleep when I can but your news of sleeping well now that you are off meds is making me feel hopeful.

 Dear Friends

After so many good days... last two nights i was hit again. No sleep (almost at all). Today i feel like a zombie. Tired as hell and trying to push forward.

The last two nights i only had 2-3 hours of sleep with the help of Valerian and some chamomile and linden tea.

Can you please advice on the proper course of action if things continue the same tonight?? Can i go for Benadryl (dipenhydramine) in case i have no other choice...??

Hi Santino,

I empathize with you around sleep.  I just came out of a period of insomnia and it was very tough.

I tried many things and a combination of Calms Forte and L-Theanine helped a bit.   I also had one very long work day, which left me so mentally tired that I finally slept.  Since then I have been a bit better on sleep.

I can't advise you on Benadryl (dipenhydramine) because I always have an opposite reaction to it-it makes me hyper.

This won't last Santino and maybe others will have additional solutions.

It is good that you could sleep Santino. Maybe you were also a bit stressed out the nights before or it was simply too hot weather, I have sometimes also problem to sleep when it is too hot and dry weather and no rain in sight

HI Carmie

I continue to be good.... 🙂 MY Holiday went as good as it could go, i enjoyed the sun and the sea and took care of my little daughter all the time as she is only two and a very hyperactive kid... 🙂 Now back at work but driving most of the weekends to my hometown for watching over my business.
Sleep and other psychological issues are all normal. I have a bit of negativity because i do not like any more my current job but i am not letting it push me down. I am learning to be more careless than before and do not kill myself over spoiled milk.

I AM ALMOST READY FOR MY SUCCESS STORY AT THE START OF THE AUTUMN... 🙂

I hope things are OK with u and do not let the WD despise you.

All the best

Hi Santino,

How wonderful that you’re almost ready for your success story. You are an inspiration.

Lovely to hear you had a great holiday. I’ve just been on a holiday at the beach too. It’s great being in nature. I’m making lots of happy memories while in a window.

Sending hugs🤗

Hi friends...

Another short update.

IN General i am ok.... just some normal down moments or unexplained anxiety and rumination. They were there today for example but they do not take me down. Life is good and even though i do not like me job the feeling of being here does not overwhelm me.

I believe by Autumn i will be able to write my success story. I just want to be convinced about it and up to now I am sure it is a success. There is nothing better in this world than 7-8 hours of natural sleep, showing affection to your loved ones,  not being scared of what tomorrow will bring, and many many other things.

I wish you all luck with your tapering and continue. Doctors have no clue about the damage they inflict with these meds and the proper ways of tapering them.

All the best
