Thanks for the tip. I will try it.

By the way, since I have you here on my site please let me say thank you.  It takes a village, and you were part of that village.  You have no idea how much you and the other mods have done for me.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I read this here on our site and I just had to copy it to my thread so I could read it whenever I want to.  By BrassMonkey. So profound.  Thank you @brassmonkey

Being brave and strong has nothing to do with not feeling fear or handle things in a "proud" manner.   It's doing what has to be done to survive, sometimes minute by minute, hour by hour or day by day. If it's hiding in a dark place crying or going for a walk when you legs are too sore to move, getting out of bed and taking a shower, if it needs to be done and you do it, that's being brave and strong. Marching down the street exuding strength is a show of bravado which frequently accomplishes nothing, unless that is what the moment calls for.  The people around you who appear to be towers of strength, are often brittle and will crack and break when things don't go their way.  This is a big factor in why people in ADWD slowly lose many of their friends over time.  The friends do not have the strength and bravery to face the situation and so in time turn and run.  For those of us in the thick of it, we have no choice, to get through this we must go on minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day doing what needs to be done, and by doing so each and every one of us displays strength and bravery beyond the superhero level.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm still out here and still tapering.  I thought it was time to check in.

I am down to 3.5mg and have been reducing abut 3.5% every four weeks. I've been having some problems with the tapers lately so I am going to slow it down.

I have some heart palpitations in the middle of the night where my heart will speed up to an abnormal rate and wake me up with sweats and shakes. It was happening 5 or 6 times a night, but now it is down to two times a night and not as intense in how I feel or how high the pulse rates goes.  I saw a cardiologist who had me wear a heart monitor and it has been documented. The cardiologist says it's not arterial fibrillation but he doesn't know what it is. When I mentioned my Zoloft taper he said it is not possible that it is causing the heart racing.  I of course found the page on this site that talks about that very thing. So I checked my notes and it appears that there might be a correlation between when I taper and when I get these heart things. Right now I am at day 24 since my last taper. I'm going to hold off on reducing for a while and see if these heart palpitations continue to decease.

Other than that all things are good.

If I had a nickel for every time...

Doctors have been lied to and misled about these meds so we can't be surprised about this kind of reaction.  YES. 100x YES, RS.  It is the taper.

You are doing great.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

Congratulations on getting down to 3.5 mg, RS.....what an accomplishment!!  The heart palpitations sound scary....I am really glad they are dissipating and I hope you experience even more relief as you hold.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper; withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin
-Tried several times to slowly taper Zoloft by 10%, then 5% every 4-6 weeks; could never get below approx. 40 mg - spring 2012 experienced major WD symptoms due to stress; tried to updose but no relief, back on Klonopin 1 mg.
-Switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to Citalopram. Finished Zoloft 1/13; Citalopram 35 mg and 1 mg Klonopin.
-8/13: 27 mg Citalopram; 1 mg Klonopin

-11/14: 12.6 Citalopram - began to have bad withdrawal symptoms; out of desperation increased to 1.25 mg Klonopin at the beginning of December.  12/13/14 16 mg Citalopram - going to stay here to try to stabilize; stabilized on 16 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

-7/15 - 3/16: reduced to 15 mg; ~ 2 months later w/d hit hard (probably r/t stress); 6/16 updosed to 20 mg Citalopram and trying to stabilize. Updosed to 1.5 Klonopin as well. Stabilized on 20 mg Citalopram after 4-5 months

8/17-9/17: feeling withdrawal symptoms at 20 mg Citalopram (due to stress) - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg

Hi Wantrelief,

Thanks for stopping by.  It looks like we are both struggling, however I am sure we will make it.  I think you said something in one of your posts about wanting a stress free life.  I have have to agree with you, I think it really helps the tapering.

Warm wishes,

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the encouragement with the taper. I really appreciate it.  It took me a while to figure out the heart palpitation thing until I started to write the dates when they occurred in my taper worksheet. Even then I wasn't positive, just noticed a correlation. Then when I found a thread here on this website I said, "ah ha."  Now that you have agreed I feel even more convinced. Most of the palpitations were at night and short lived however I had one that went up to 195 BMP while sitting still and lasted for 6 hours.  Now that I am about 26 days away from my last taper they are completely gone. It's frightening because I know that something like I mentioned, lasting as long as it did, can cause very serious medical issues.  My gosh are these drugs powerful, and yet doctors give it out like it is candy.

I would not spend a lot of time worrying about the potential for "very serious medical issues."  These are isolated events and your heart can withstand very high heartrates for extended periods.  Think about what happens when you exercise.  It is doubtful your heart was sustained at 190+ bpm, rather that was the high it hit, and a sustained rate of 120-150 even for 6 hours is not going to cause you a problem.

The stress of worrying about it is likely a greater risk.

Hi RS,

Just wanted to say thank you for your nice message.. You’ve done really well on your taper so far, keep up the good work!

I see you’re like me, you can’t taper at ten percent either.

Wishing you all the best with your continued tapering 💚

Been on antipsychotics, benzos, antidepressants and painkillers for chronic pain.

Been cold turkeyed and put on and off all sorts of things. Was suicidal n ended up in a psych ward because I had akathisia from withdrawals. Can’t remember what I was put on but when I was released was in the same predicament with severe akathisia n was suicidal again.

Back to the ward and was given different meds. Tapered off one and have been trying to taper off Seroquel since. It’s been many, many years of tapering so far.

I’ve  tapered from 300mg of Seroquel to 7.5mg./ March 10 2019=7.25mg / 17th of April=7 mg / June 5th=6.75mg/ July 14th=6.50mg/ August 28=6.25mg/ 10th of Oct= 6.20mg/ October 21=6mg/ December 16=5.80mg/.   January 21 2020=5.60mg/April 2=5.40g/ May 29=5.20mg/ August 14= 5mg/ September 29=4.80mg/ Jan 31, 2021=4.60 mg/ April 24=4.40mg/ July 17=4.30mg

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. These are my own views based on what I’ve experienced myself.

Hi Godiswithme,

Thank you very much for stopping by. I really appreciate it.

I know we have a different medication situation, I do hope though that you go through your procedure as smoothly as I went through mine.  I know I was very concerned before my procedure and I hate to think of someone else being as nervous as I was.  Good luck.

It's time to update my thread. This is more of a journal thing, unless someone cares to share their experience on the subject matter.

Now that cold and flu season is upon us, at least in my end of the world it is, I sometimes have a problem telling the difference between WD and an illness.  It sounds crazy, I know.  But the symptoms can be similar.  For me WD is sweating and feeling like I am burning up, but no elevated temperature.  When I am ill with an infection I never get a rise in body temperature either. Never. Ever.  Even with a bacterial infection that tends to produce a higher body temperature, I still don't get an elevated temperature, I just feel like I have a fever. So when I get that feeling, I don't know if it is WD or illness. Flu like symptoms are often present with WD. I've had a dripping sinus with WD and obviously with a cold. Painful sinuses and headache, is it WD, or a sinus infection? Earache, well it could be WD or could be infection, at least for me it could be either. So, to recap, feeling like a fever, runny nose, painful sinuses, headache, earache and flu like symptoms. WD or illness? Could be either.  If a sore throat or cough kicks in I am actually grateful because it tells me what I need to know.  And of course I can always run to the doctor for a blood test.  Darn I really hate WD.  No I am not in WD right now, it ended up being some sort of infection. And I am actually so grateful I am doing my happy dance.  Well in my mind I am doing my happy dance.  In actuality I am laying in bed watching old movies, taking antibiotics and pounding down the liquids.  I would rather have an illness than be in WD.  Anytime, any day, any way. So don't feel sorry for me or send me any condolences. I only want congratulations, I am one happy camper right now.

And a respectably pleasant holiday to you as well @RachelSusan.

Last year I had major SI, could not go to my friends' annual xmas eve party because I couldn't stand the thought of the "how are you?" question, and ended up buffing my floor and painting a wall and looking at homeless people across the street and wondering how long until I was there. This year I am stable and for that I am immensely grateful.

I've had to put a hold on my taper the last few weeks.  I've had a cold and then a sinus infection.  I made a promise to myself not to taper unless I am in an optimal situation, both health wise and stress wise.  Since the health is compromised I am on hold.   Like everyone else here I want off the drugs, but now is when patience comes into play. Hi Rachel, I'm sorry you have had to hold off on your taper due to cold and sinus infection. I know it must be frustrating!

I recently started coming down with a cold ,so I megadosed Vitamin C (titrated to bowel tolerance), and I found it also reduced some of my withdrawal symptoms. My cold went away but I'm staying on the Vitamin C megadose (about 6 grams a day, throughout the day) because I think it is helping reduce the anxiety and nightmares I experience.

Good luck!

Hi DaveB,

Thank you for stopping by, it means a lot to me. Patience has not been one of my strong points so it's been had for to learn it.  Slowly I am learning and practicing it. I guess I've made so many bone head moves in withdrawal that I've finally settled down.  I've made up a few rules for myself after bad experiences of my own and reading about other's bad experiences.  Now I just try and follow them.

I hate this journey we are on. I know you have been suffering a lot lately.  My thoughts are with you.

Hey @RachelSusan, see that you are waiting thru cold/sinus yuck before tapering again. Good on you for being so patient! Really, I admire and am baffled by such patience (I accidentally typed "baggled" instead of "baffled" and that applies too). Hope you feel better sooner rather than later.

@FarmGirlWorks

Hello FarmGirlWorks,

Thank you got stopping by.  I am the person with the least patience.  However with these stupid drugs I've learned the hard way.  If I taper while sick with flu, cold, I end up sicker with withdrawal symptoms. It took me a while to learn --  like I said, the hard way.  Yes you can be "baggled" as well "baffled." Your posts always make me smile.

@Aquarius

Hello Aquarius,

I'm very sorry to read that you too have the internal trembling and shaking.  It's really awful. I wasn't able to find anything to fix it, except for time.  Yes relief came as I stabilized.

Is any time of day worse for you?  For me it was from about 3 in the morning until about 8 in the morning.

I think because it is such an odd and different feeling we get more frightened of it than many of the other symptoms.  I recall being very frightened of it and felt I couldn't express clearly the feeling to anybody else.  Is there is someway that you can not let it frighten you and think to yourself that this is part of the process and it will go away?  If at all possible to think that way it might help remain a little calmer.  It doesn't help with the terrible feeling but at least you wouldn't find yourself so upset.  Also it came and went for me as well.

Aquarius, I hope you stabilize soon. This whole process stinks and I am very sorry you are going through it.

Journal:

It's time to check in. Over all I am doing well with my tapers.  I am tapering around 4% each time, with a taper usually every five to six weeks.  Around day 6 of the taper I will feel some symptoms but they are very light.  They consist of internal trembling, a little bit of sweating and perhaps a a night or two of insomnia.  My only real concern has been heart palpitations.  A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Mine is normally 60. When I get these palpitations my heart rate has gone as high as 198, for hours at a time. I have been to the emergency room in the past as well as seen a cardiologist.  They can't figure it out but I suspect it is related to withdrawal.  I've slowed my taper down to what I mentioned above and for the most part they seem to be staying at bay. So I am not worried, just concerned and I am keeping an eye on it. And yes I have read the thread here at Surviving Antidepressants regarding heart palpitations.  Which brings me to how much I appreciate this site.  There is information related to everything withdrawal.

Whatever stage of your journey you are in, trying to stabilize, trying to taper, or just trying to recover after CT, I wish everybody the best.

A big shout out to the mods who have helped so many.
