@Frogie

Hi Frogie,

What a pleasant surprise.  I am so glad you stopped by.  I hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

I had the best Thanksgiving I have had in a long time. The family couldn't get together because of  Covid rules. With this in mind my husband and I decided to do something a little different. He cooked an entire dinner the night before Thanksgiving and starting early in the day on Thanksgiving we drove around the city and dropped off meals for people we know that were either alone or unable to cook for themselves due to various reasons.  It was all prearranged and we texted them an hour before we were go to their house or apartment and then again when we were outside.  All they had to do was run down and get it. We finished our deliveries around 4 p.m.  We then had time to meet our family on Zoom and eat our own dinner as well.  It was sad we were unable to get together with our family but it was wonderful we were able to turn it into something positive for other people that were also stranded and alone. We in turn got a tremendous amount of joy out of this, so it was good for everybody. And yes, you read it right.  My husband cooked the entire thing. I am a terrible cook and he is really great. I am so happy he liked my idea and did the extra worked need to make this happen.

I don't know what Christmas and New Year's will look like. I haven't figured it out, I do know though that I need to remain as flexible as possible and just roll with whatever it is.

I am slowly getting off the Zoloft. Down to .75mg. I can't believe that I am so close to being off. I figure perhaps some time next summer.  But as you know, the body has a mind of it's own. Yes that was my attempt at a joke. Seriously though, I can't have all the best plans but how fast I taper will be guided by how my body responds.  The internal tremors are still with me, but they are much more mild.  They are sort of my withdrawal normal.

Overall life is as good as it can be for me right now. I hope you are well and happy, and that your pesky symptoms have gone away.

Sertraline 50mg and Clonazapam .375mg from 2000 -- symptoms of dizziness Spring 2012

increased to .5 Clonazapam and 100mg Sertraline -- no improvement

Benzo microtaper from November 2012 to November 2014 (followed benzo sites "taper benzo first")

Started Sertraline taper in December 2014 cut by 25mg to 75mg; 62.5mg 1/1/15 and 50mg on 2/1/15

Held at 50mg through April 5 to use liquid
Reduced dosage in 10% or less drops from 50mg to 25mg -- at single tablet of 25mg on 10/5/15

Transitioned to all liquid for accuracy while tapering -- Horrible insomnia -- back to 25mg liquid and held until October 1, 2016

10/16 -- 11/18 tapered very slowly to 10.6mg.  No real improvement and never really stable so updosed to 12.5mg (1/2 a pill) for convenience and long hold.

After 8+ months of holding with no noticeable improvement decided to add .4ml of liquid Prozac (about 1.5mg) to see if that improves the situation

Supplements, Magnesium, D3, Omega 3, curcumin, Valerian, 81mg Aspirin, L-Theanine, Vit. C,

Thank you Andy. It was such a joy for us.  I think we got more out of it than the people receiving the dinners.

I haven't forgotten the time I had tapered and was experiencing heavy symptoms. I was thinking about up-dosing. You encouraged me to give it a little bit more time which I did, and I am glad I took that route. It started me on the path of not going up and down on my dose and always giving everything a little extra time. You were such a great help, thank you.

You have had your own journey. I hope that holding has given you some relief. It's been such a bad year that it's sometimes hard for me to judge what is stress induced and what are Zoloft induced symptoms. I would hate to think that the stress of the year has impacted upon your situation. Thinking of you.

Rachel

P.S.  My hip replacement is great.  I hope your hips are working as well as mine is.

Hi RS!

I think we must be sisters from a different mister (and mother) lol... my “hubby” did the Thanksgiving dinner also, other than making the pies that I bought at Sam’s. But what a wonderful, thoughtful, joyful experience you had not only delivering the meals but the memories you created for you and everyone you reached out to with a meal. You truly are a very caring person.

I have been cooking some though. I received an Instant Pot. Everything is so easy! So I upgraded to a Ninja pressure cooker and love it. Hubby does too lol...

Our Thanksgiving was quiet. We planned to have my son, daughter in law and granddaughter. Nope. They live in her parents basement and her mom was infected with COVID and in bed for 3 weeks. Needless to say ours was very quiet. But had a massive amount of food. I don’t know how Christmas will be either. I did all my shopping online and curbside. All wrapped and under the tree (that I put up the 1st week of November).

I’m really glad to hear your internal tremors are lessening. That’s encouraging. You’re going to be done before you know it! You have shown great determination, yet been very cautious and listened to your body. That’s the smartest way to go about this. You are so positive even when you are experiencing symptoms. That shows great aptitude. I’m so proud of you for all of this.

My symptoms are getting a little les for me. Still there, but I just go on with life. I’m not letting it stop me. May slow me down a little,  maybe that’s age related too ha, ha.

I’m so glad you are doing well. Please keep me posted how you do going forward.

Take care,

 Frogie xx

@Frogie

Frogie,

I've loved all of your last post (except for the sad part of course). You made me smile and giggle. Yes were are sisters indeed. The way you put it though was very funny.

I felt your disappointment with not seeing your son and his family. I know it was something you had been looking forward to. You said your son's mother-in-law had it; I hope that nobody else got it. I think we all miss family dreadfully. I know I do.  Most of my family lives out of town so it's been way too long since I have been able to see them. I had to cancel a family trip last spring which involved travel due to Covid.

When I met my husband I didn't know how to cook a thing and even worse I didn't care. My poor my mother always tried to teach me things but I had no interest.  And what do you know, I married a gourmet cook.  Lucky me. Since I have been with him I have taken more of an interest and with his patient guidance I have learned to make a few special things. But I still haven't learned to make any dishes for Thanksgiving.

Frogie, you made me feel so good with your compliments on my taper.  I am actually grinning from ear to ear. My family of course knows I have gone through a lot but know one can appreciate the intricacies of tapering like a fellow sufferer.  Which is why your compliments mean so much to me.

Frogie, I don't know if you slowing down is age related or symptom related, but to me you seem so effervescent and luminous. I think we were both surprised when we found out that we were very close to the same age because we had always assumed the other was younger due to our attitudes. I say us old babes still have a lot of rockin' to do and well are slowly kicking the a** on our drugs.

Happy holidays to you.

Much love,

Rachel

Hi RS, please condense your drug signature so that it doesn't take up so much room.  Since the software upgrade, some of the topics appear on the left side of the screen.  I'm using a desktop computer and your drug signature takes up the whole length of my screen so it makes it difficult to read posts.

My suggestion woudl be to remove the section that is between the lines.

Hi ChessieCat,

It's done. Thanks for the suggestion. I was clinging on to the information because I felt I had fought every step of the way for all those drops, however, and this is a big HOWEVER, when I saw your note I thought to myself, what the heck are you doing Rachel, carrying around all this excess baggage from bad times?  Obviously it is a metaphor for my life. So with a clean sweep I deleted excess information from my page here and I suddenly feel just a bit more free myself. Thank you ChessieCat. 😀

Hi RS!

I love telling my friends that we are sisters from a different mister. They tell me that all the time also. I’m sure you and I should be related in someway.

No one else in the house got COVID, thank goodness. They stayed away from her and she stayed in her room most of the time from what I understand. All of our family lives at least 45 minutes away, but hopefully soon we can see them. We are hoping Christmas we can see my granddaughter. If everyone tests negative before Christmas 🤞🏻

I am not much of a cook, but learned when I became a single parent and the boys were hungry lol... but we ate a lot of prepared food. Grandma and mom both tried to teach me. I just wasn’t interested in learning. Now I’m having fun with the Ninja! Easy peasy.

I think I’m getting old, unfortunately. I baked cookies for 2 days and sure feel it now. But I’m ready for Christmas. Gifts bought thanks to Kohl’s and Target curbside and good old Amazon. Wrapped and under the tree!

You are really doing a wonderful job with your taper. You are really making it look “easy” other than the tremors. And yes! We kicked *ss with the meds!

I hope you are enjoying the holiday season as much as possible. It snowed here last night. Home looking out the window at it wishing I was in the mountains watching it come down. Oh well, someday...

You take care of yourself.

Hi @RachelSusan, how is your sertraline taper going?  Well, I hope.  I'm also tapering sertraline and planning to be done next year.  It looks like you have been making increasingly larger cuts since the start of this year, so do you think it's made any change in WD side effects?  I'm tempted, but a bit reluctant to do the same.  I want so badly to be done with this drug because I still have alprazolam (Xanax) to taper.

Wishing you the best,

Terry

Hi Terry,

You have great timing. I don't visit this website as frequently as I used to so it was pure luck that I signed in and saw your post and can give you a timely response.

First off, how are you feeling now and how have you been feeling in the last few months? It looks like anxiety might be an issue for you. Is that correct?

In answer to your question which is below:

2 hours ago, Terry said:

It looks like you have been making increasingly larger cuts since the start of this year, so do you think it's made any change in WD side effects?

Yes I do think it has made a difference, it has made it worse. Even with liquid it is sometimes hard to get the dosage right in very small amounts.  I know I have to reformulate the water and Sertraline ratio in order to make smaller cuts and I just haven't done so. Again, you have excellent timing because I was just thinking to myself this morning, before I signed, on that I need to do this and make the smaller cuts. Your question served as a beautiful reminder to me to do what I need to do.

Terry, I do hear you about wanting to be off the drug because you have another drug to taper. I am the same, I have another one to taper after this one. And I too am hoping to be off the Sertraline sometime next year, maybe summer.  But as we both know what we want is not always how it works out.  I know I need to listen to my body.  So with that said, I am not going to make my next cut at the usual 4 week mark.  Once my symptoms calm down I will then move the taper date a few weeks past that. The continual pushing of taper dates is what is slowing me down but if I don't do this I will end up with a mess on my hands and be in a world of hurt.

I think we both will be fine if we continue to follow the guidelines and not rush it.  If you feel like it I would love to keep in touch.

Warm wishes,

RS

Hello my sister from another mister (my new name for you Frogie),

I have one Christmas wish for you Frogie, since you seem to have everything else under control. My wish is that everyone in your son's house tests negative for Covid and you are able to see his family and you beloved granddaughter.

I think you better keep that Ninja going between now and Christmas so you can make plenty of delights to freeze and pull out when they get there, because I do believe that they are coming.

We will both be just fine Frogie. It just takes a lot of time. I know I will be fine, I am just so impatient. 5 years with this stuff and I still have another drug to go.  That would be the Gabapetin, which hopefully you will guide me through when I get there.  Frogie, I am going to send you a private message so please look for it.

I have ups and downs, just like everyone else on this site, but I think I'm doing fairly well in general.  When I'm in a wave, anxiety is always a part of it.  I've been tapering about 3% every 8 or 9 days recently.  Soon I will need to adjust the ratio of my liquid sertraline to water so I can measure more accurately at the lower doses.

Hi Terry,

Glad to hear that overall you are doing alright.

I forgot to ask you, how are you recovering from your hip replacement. I had one about two years ago. At about six months I felt pretty darn good but it took me almost a year to forget about it completely and feel like everything was completely normal. Now when I stretch the only pain is in the hip that has not been replaced.

Take care.

Thank you for asking.

The hip seemed quite good within a month.  However, since then I've been having increasing pain in the thigh of that leg, making it more difficult to walk.  I have degenerated discs in my low back, and I suspect that might be causing the pain.  I will be seeing a spine specialist after Christmas to get checked.  I'm having the other hip replacement in February.  My surgery will be in the morning and I'll be discharged later that day. Because of COVID, all my post-op care will be done in the surgery suite, provided there are no contraindications.  I'm also looking at possible shoulder replacement next summer.  😧

I'm glad your replacement worked out well.  It just makes life better.

Wishing you a happy holiday season!  Hope you are able to connect in some fashion with family/friends during this pandemic.

@Dejavu

Hello at Dejavu,

Thank  you for stopping by my thread. I looked at your latest post and it sounds like you are suffering which I am very sorry to hear.  You know getting off this stuff is very tricky. Right now you are very precariously balanced (due to CNS) and any little thing can throw you off balance. So any illness, stress whether it is emotional or physical, or fatigue can affect you. I have been tapering now for five years, and while I have long stretches of normalcy, it has been an up and down game. I don't want you to loose hope, you are improving. These set backs while brutal for you, are sadly a part of this situation.  You will get improve.

Thank you @RachelSusan for your response and pep talk. It is badly needed and very much appreciated. I'm not in a good place right now, and feel totally derailed. It makes me wonder if I'll ever be able to taper again.

Are you still working through your inner vibrations? Did you slow your taper down or are you moving ahead? I hope it is not debilitating for you - you have come so far and done so well.

Hi @Dejavu,

Yes I still have the inner vibrations.  When I taper at higher than 10% they get worse. When I taper at around 8 to 10% they seem to stay at the new normal, which is low.  I have a feeling that when I totally get off the the Zoloft and see a few thousand miles in the rear view mirror they will eventually go away altogether. For now they are minor compared to the good quality of life I lead.

I really feel for you because I have been where you have been.  I felt it was so bleak and dark and the suffering was so debilitating that I just didn't have the energy to go on. But we all sort of slowly move through it.  Just get through each day the best you can. If that getting through involves counseling or sleeping, or whatever helps for you then do it. You don't however have to do anything special or earth shattering to get better, all you have to do is just survive the day. You body will heal and improve all by itself. You will get better.

I'm so sorry about the vibrations. That was a horrible symptom for me when I had it, but it seems not to bother you overly much. Have you considered slowing your taper? I know at one time you were only cutting about 4-5% of I recall correctly. What made you speed up, other than just (understandably) wanting to get this over with?

And thank you for the encouragement. You know firsthand how hopelessness can creep in. I just thought after I'd stabilized so beautifully before, I'd never be back down here. Very disappointing because I was really starting to stabilize over the holidays - didn't feel great by any means, but I was definitely getting there. Now it's like it never happened. I'm having trouble with that.

Oh wow - congratulations, RS!  You are a real role model for how to get this done!

It is a relief to hear the last few cuts you have made have gone smoothly - it seems some folks have trouble with those lower doses so it is good to hear that is not always the case.

I am very happy for you!  :)

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Hello! I’m reading through your posts and noticed you’ve taken meclizine. I am having really bad vertigo suddenly and was prescribed this but my other zoloft WD forums takes a hard stance against using antihistamines while tapering. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The dizziness is miserable. I’ve been experiencing what seems to be acute withdrawal symptoms after receiving anesthesia for an Endosocpy 3 weeks ago.

-given Prozac at 12 due to panic attacks for 6months

-Med free until 2008 when I was 20 years old
-2008-2009- Pristiq, followed by quick taper.
-1/10-Rxed 50mg Zoloft & .5mg Klonopin daily after a death in the family

- 2/2012 Successfully micro tapered off .5mg of Klonopin after taking daily for 2 years. Started 100mg of Trazadone for sleep .

- Oct 2013- Quickly tapered off trazadone. Bad idea! But finally trazadone free.

- July 2015- present Became very ill with lyme like sxs

-August 2018-present. Started micro taper off 50mg of Zoloft via liquid titration  ...

- July 2021- down to 3mg.. had digestive issues so got an endoscopy and major flair!
-March 2022- tried cross tapers to Prozac and lexapro did not work. Jumped off everything.

-Present: Med free and pregnant! Aside from some health issues I’m doing better than expected!!

@wantrelief

Hi Wantrelief. The last two or three cuts have been easy but around the 1 mg mark I did definitely did feel some symptoms come back, so I slowed down. I am not off yet so please keep your fingers crossed for me.
