Hi Frogie,

Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate it. I too hope the burning skin goes away, however in the scheme of symptoms it is very acceptable. I think both you and I have experienced much worse. I hope you have a good day.

Hi Survivor1,

Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate it.

It sounds like you are having a little improvement, at least with your sleep. I'm sorry though to read about the stomach cramps from the  Lamictal. I hope with time the cramping goes away.

Yes I am doing reasonably well and grateful for every single day without suffering.

Hang in there my friend.  Better days will come your way.

Hi,

It’s time to check in again.  I’ve been doing OK.  The tapers have been going smoothly however I made a minor change to my prednisone intake and for a few days some of the withdrawal symptoms came back. What I have learned, at least for me, is that after my body went through a cold turkey withdrawal and then a reinstatement it became very sensitive to any change in medication, stress, or exercise.  I do everything with caution and my tapers are tiny.  Over all things are good.

I follow some of you and I know that you’ve had some life stressors, other health issues, and losses.  I hope everybody is hanging in there and that you are able to stabilize soon.

Hi Rosetta,

Thanks for the message.  I'm also thrilled to read that you are more functional now than you were last year.  I do relate to the isolation issue.  I hope you manage to find some way to resolve that.

Hi RS,

Thanks for checking in.

I'm glad your taper is continuing to go smoothly.

Yes, as you know, many people have found that CT/withdrawal definitely sensitizes our bodies to change in medication, stress, etc. Shows how powerful these drugs are.

I'm really glad to see that you're tapering at a very cautious rate.

Take care. : )

2020: After 18+ years (entire adult life) on Paxil, a dangerous doctor-led "taper" in 2015, and four years tapering off the last 1 mg thanks to SA and the Brassmonkey slide,

I AM COMPLETELY FREE OF PAXIL! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Forever.

2021: Began conservative, proper, CNS-respecting taper of Zoloft, led by the only expert on me -- me. Making own liquid. 5-10% plus holds.

2022: Holding on Zoloft for now. Current dose 47 mg. Hanging in, hanging on. Severe protracted PAWS, windows and waves. While I may not be doing "a lot" by outside standards, things are graaaaadually getting better

Thanks for stopping by.  I really appreciate it.

Oh my goodness have you got that right about our bodies becoming sensitized.  Prior to this very little upset my system, now a simple tea with caffeine can have an effect me.

Warm wishes,

Hi Miracle,

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear you are still suffering. It does appear that you tapered much more quickly than I am currently tapering. I hope you come out of the dark tunnel very soon.

I'm coming up on my two year anniversary of cold turkey and subsequent reinstatement. First off I hate to use the word anniversary because I think of an anniversary as being something festive, which this is not.  For want of a better word I guess I will stick with it.

On my two year anniversary I wanted to say something deep and profound but alas I just don't have it in me.  I am exhausted from this journey. It was h*ll and it is h*ll. It is however far better than it was and there is recovery. I have made a lot of recovery. Currently I am down to 4.0mg of Zoloft with an occasional symptom and a slight temporary bump up of additional symptoms shortly after a taper.

Your post is so hopeful and, therefore, profound in itself, RS.  Despite being exhausted (I understand exactly how you feel), you are doing such an amazing job with your taper!  Congratulations on all you have and will achieve.

-1/06 - 3/07 Cymbalta. Fast taper (essentially CT); withdrawal symptoms after 4 mos (didn't realize was WD)

-10/07: 100 mg Zoloft; 1 mg Klonopin - tapered off Klonopin after 4 mos. Several unsuccessful slow tapers of Zoloft; went up and down in dose a lot

-Spring 2013 back on 1 mg Klonopin to counter WD symptoms; switched over 5-6 mos from Zoloft to 35 mg citalopram
-Two attempts at slow tapering citalopram, always increased dose due to WD; also increased Klonopin to 1.25 mg in 2014, then to 1.5 mg in 2015

-8/17-9/17: After holding one year at 20 mg, feeling withdrawal symptoms due to stress - slowly increased to 25 mg. No change in symptoms after 6 months (? tolerance ?)  - decided to start citalopram taper February 2018 (still on Klonopin 1.5 mg).

Supplements: fish oil; magnesium; vitamin D3; curcumin

Citalopram taper:  2/2018 - 12/2019: 25 mg - 11.03 mg I 2020: 10.89 mg - 7.9 mg I 2021: 7.8 mg - 5.26 mg I 2022: 5.2 mg - 3.36 mg I 2023: 3.3 mg - 1.47 mg 2024: 1/5/24: 1.44 mg; 1/19/24: 1.40 mg; 1/26/24: 1.37 mg; 2/2/24: 1.34 mg; 2/9/24: 1.31 mg; 2/23/24: 1.28 mg; 3/1/24: 1.25 mg; 3/8/24: 1.22 mg; 3/15/24: 1.19 mg

Hi Madeline,

Thank you for stopping by, it means a lot to me.  You too recently had a good post, I think you said you have been doing 10% cuts for a year.  I'm going a lot slower than you but I am getting there.  I  hope we both continue to improve.

@Madeleine

Hi Madeline,

What a pleasant surprise to wake up this morning and see a message from you.  First off, that you for stopping by.

In answer to how I am doing, over all pretty good.  I am still struggling with the tapering however it is a lot better than it used to be.  I found a safe percentage for me to taper is about 3 to 4 percent which is working out to be about 1/8 of a mg at a time.  Even then I get a slight recurrence of symptoms. But I guess the good word I used in the last sentence is "slight." I love the word slight in the context of symptoms. So much better than heavy or even moderate.

How are you doing Madeline?  I know you have been struggling with the Zoloft as well.  Have you decided to hold at 50% for while?  It's hard to believe that this stuff is so powerful that the slight drops we all do can cause us so many problems.

I think you took a vacation last spring, didn't you. I know you took one but I can't exactly place the date.  The reason I mention it is because I took a vacation last month.  The first I have taken since this all began.  I believe you said yours was good.  So was mine. A year ago I wouldn't have attempted to go anywhere or do anything.  Good for both of us.

Warm wishes,

Rachel

On my two year anniversary I wanted to say something deep and profound but alas I just don't have it in me.  I am exhausted from this journey. It was h*ll and it is h*ll. It is however far better than it was and there is recovery. I have made a lot of recovery.

Congratulations! This may be a wee bit late but so glad --relieved -- to see that you've made some recovery. Good to hear!

Hi FarmGirlWorks,

It's never too late for kind thoughts, so thank you very much. I have managed to make something of a recovery.  It's not perfect but I'm grateful for the improvement.

You mentioned in one of your recent posts that you only have cortisol spikes when lying down. I have something similar.  I get only cortisol spikes when sleeping.  It doesn't matter if it is night or a daytime nap, they wake me up. I have no idea why this is.

It sounds like you had one recent setback but over all are doing better.  I hope I read your thread correctly. My best wishes for continued improvement for you.

Thanks again FGW, it was good to get your message.

Hi @RachelSusan: overall I am doing better, that is for sure. What is frustrating and surprising is that new symptoms pop up that I didn't have before. Like the intense cortisol spikes. I even had one today when I was in acupuncture. I am believing that they will disappear like other physical symptoms. Still have the anxiety/despair and scrambled brain/cog fog pretty strong but have had windows that last 3-6 days a few times and that gives me hope.

Hi FGW,

I'm so l glad you are getting windows.  I hope it continues to get even better for you.  I hear you about the new symptoms. It's always a surprise, isn't it? As for cog fog I haven't had it for almost a year now. I am very happy about that. But the cortisol spikes are still hanging around. I get two every night and they wake me up. I don't mind waking up, but it is a shocking and jolting way to wake up. Sometimes I hate to go to sleep just because I know what is coming. Oh well, it's still better than it was in 2016 which I first started with this mess.  I think we both will continue to improve. Fingers crossed.

@Miracle123

Hi Miracle,

Thank you for stopping by.  Yes, thank goodness no Cog Fog for me.  When I taper I still get symptoms but they are very light compared to what I went through last year and the year before that.

This process takes a long time so please don't give up hope. It sounds like you are having some good days and then some bad days.  Hopefully you will continue to see improvement. I am two years and four months into this ordeal and it's only the last 6 months that I have felt really good. You will improve, it just takes a long time.

Warm wishes,

Rachel

Hi RachelSusan,

BrassMonkey suggested adding a drop of vodka to the diluted sertraline and Terry tried it and it worked:
