I am not doing well today or yesterday.  There are multiple things going on with me, so it's hard to tell what is causing what.  My headaches have been severe.  The oxygen helps up to a point.  After using it I would like the headache to be gone for awhile, but it isn't.  As soon as I change my position from laying down to sitting up the intense burning begins again.  Today the burning sensation is all over my body with abdominal pain, sweating, mood swings, crying spells ( maybe from mourning the death of my mom on November 9) or not. ; feeling cold inside and out, increased heart rate,  moments of intense uncontrolled anger which is causing problems with my spouse; but he is very understanding about knowing it is  not intentional,  very sensitive to light; just looking at my computer screen on the lowest level causing a stabbing pain in my head and more burning, ringing ears and very sensitive to sound,  carbohydrate cravings, frequent mood swings to the point I think I have multiple personalities,  anxiety/panic, muscle weakness, joint pain, difficulty taking a breath ( connected to the headaches somehow), mental confusion, concentration problem.  unable to understand or comprehend what people are saying to me or what I am reading..............comes and goes.

I have my total hip replacement on next Thursday, December 7th.  I see my doctor this Friday, December 1 for the results of my brain scan and chest CT scan.

Things that help:  laying down with heat on my head;  oxygen, deep breathing through the pain.  distractions like crocheting, computer games, reading when my eyes allow me to,  prayer, indexing records for familysearch.org, genealogy, hugs from hubby, a warm blanket with a cup of a warm beverage,

Oh dear Genlady

So now you are off the AD and things are getting worse?  Right?

this is what others before have said, that once off the problems can really start and this is what is then labelled as relapse, leading to the problem of whether to go back on or not.  Some people describe feeling stuck with the symptoms.

What is your doctor saying, just stick it out and it will clear??  I don't think doctors know what to do at this point.

Thanks for reporting back, too many people don't report back and that means we don't get the full picture.

Sounds like you have a very good husband.

I really want to know how you do from now on Genlady.

Today hasn't been any better.  Still having the multiple migraines or cluster headaches and using oxygen the get through them.  If I do any kind of walking or even getting dressed I have a problem with my breathing and this also starts another headache.  I am not able to go anywhere or do anything because of either sound or lights both of which ear plugs & sunglasses do not help).  Any kind of sound triggers either a headache or a chorea Movement.  This has happened even earlier when I was still on the Celexa,  Symptoms I have are:  ringing in the ears ( accompanied by a headache, hot or cold burning sensation all over my body), sensitive to lights, blurred vision, eye pain, bright sparkling lights in vision accompanied by headache, can also trigger Chorea movements.  The doctor checked my eyes by shining the light into them and bam huge Chorea movement.  Difficulty breathing occurs with the burning sensations and sensitivity to light or sound.  It is all still confusing to myself and my doctor because so much is going on.  My sinusis are all blocked, cluster headaches, and Temporal Arteritis is also in the mix with the drug withdrawals.  We are trying to detangle the symptoms, but it will take awhile.  I am getting an Echo cardiogram in January, a Mammogram this coming Friday because a lump was found in my CT scan.  Of course I have anxiety , not knowing what is wrong with me and why I am having all of these symptoms which may or may not be withdrawal.  This has affected my life very negatively.   I am tired of being in PAIN!

No, things have not gotten worse, they just haven't gotten any better and other health problems have added to the problem.

Today has been horrible.  I have been having panic attacks all day, at least four of them.  The burning sensations, sweating, ringing in te ears, sinus congestion, sensitive to light, weigh gain, chorea movements ( which I'm afraid may be permanent).  This has been going on for years .  I think the Prednisone has caused some problems, since I'm sensitive to medications of all types.  The anxiety is the most persistent symptom, which happens to be the condition I was treated for originally.  My doctor wants to put me back on medication.  So far I have been strong enough to say no, but I know if I can't see an improvement soon I will give in .

My sinus problem will not get addressed by a specialist for a long time.  The waiting list is one year.

Hi genlady

So sorry you are struggling like this, you have been doing so well.  How do you feel about going back on meds?  Does your doctor think your symptoms may resolve soon?  Do you think the weight gain is caused by withdrawal from AD or something else?  Do you feel it is your original anxiety resurfacing?  Or is it still withdrawal?

It is at this point that I think people drop off this board and don't report back. I would be really grateful if you could keep us all/me informed of how things continue.  I am just so scared to drop any further as I get terrible symptoms that make it impossible for me to function at all.

Do you like/have faith in your doctor?  You have done so well and been so brave, whatever happens you have tried to work this out and that is important.

I think these medicines are very very powerful.  The difference for me between taking 20 mg and 18 mg is enormous - surely that is not right?

Hi Joy,

My doctor does not think it is withdrawal at this point, but what doctor does?  I am still on a small amount of Prednisone which "could" cause anxiety, but again my doctor does not think so at so small a dose of 5 mg.  I have read differently however.  I have and am going through a lot right now:  mourning the loss of my mother, sinus blockage causing migraine type headaches, breathing problems ( quite possibly a lump in my left lung as they didn't find one in my left breast).  I will be seeing my doctor in the New Year.  I am now on 50-150mg. Trazodone for sleep.  It has helped enormously with that.   My symptoms come in three hour cycles throughout the day from moderate to severe.  I would love to have a three hour period of symptom free.  I think my anxiety has a lot to do with long term headaches, breathing problems ( I use an inhaler now every four hours when needed), plus high oxygen every three hours.  It really ties me to the house, plus it is difficult doing anything around the house , moving makes my symptoms worse.  I can't figure that one out.  Thank you Joy for answering my posts.  I don't want to go back on medication.  If things start getting worse than they are right now, however, I will consider it.  It has taken me six years to become medication free ( except for the Trazodone).  I will check in from time to time.

Take care Genlady, you sound a bit down compared with previous posts.  Check in from time to time, that would be great.  Yes, you do have a lot on which makes everything so much harder.

Sadly, a lot of it is probably withdrawal, but not all of it perhaps, and how are any of us to know.  If you go back on and the symptoms resolve that could either show you have been in withdrawal or you have been ill and are being successfully treated.  Isn't it a dilemma.

Thanks for responding because I do get concerned when people stop posting and don't finish their story, it leaves so much unanswered.  I think if people go back on the meds they are unlikely to post it on here, but I think the truth can help to set people free.

Today is not going well.  I am in a lot of pain, muscles and joints. :(  I also feel very weak which comes and goes.  I am still having mood swings, crying spells, lots of negative thoughts, super anxiety, chorea movements on the increase, crying spells,  blurred vision, headaches, sinus pain, restless legs,  stinging burning sensations everywhere.

My thoughts bother me a lot as does the anxiety.  Sometimes it just gets overwhelming and I cry and cry somemore.  I think about going back on anti depressants when I'm not feeling well.  It has been over two months since I stopped the Celexa and over one month since the Prozac.  I have five more 5mg. pills of Prednisone left.  I see my doctor on the 10th as she called me into the office for a "follow up" about the pulmonary test.

I have had a lot of trouble breathing again today.  I get out of breath often, and just taking a breath is troublesome at times, both through my mouth and nose.  My esophagus goes tense.

Omg,  Genlady! I'm so so sorry you are suffering so much!

Im with you unfortunately being off lex for 3 months still having sxs very much like yours.

Can I ask why you decided to taper that fast off celexa and the Prozac?

Hi LexAnger,

I decided to go off the Celexa so fast because I believed it was causing me a lot of side effects.  I had been going off it at 10% taper earlier on and at two months my symptoms did not get any better, as I believed they would and have read from others.  I figured if I feel this rotten at 10% taper what difference will there be if I do it faster and be done with it.  I asked on here what to do, and didn't get an answer, so I tapered as my doctors schedule.  She let me decided basically how fast to wait between tapers.  I was starting to feel a bit better until I was put on Prednisone at 50mg.  It can cause emotional problems too. :(  Not a good thing to be on when you're having withdrawals .  I am almost off the prednisone and hopefully things will improve again.

I'm sorry you are still having problems after three months.  What symptoms have you been having?  I'm really fighting to not go back on medication.

I see! Thank you for getting back to my question so quickly!

What are the side effects you had? did the side effects go away or lessoned since you stopped?

my current symptoms are a lot like yours, just name the major and consistent ones, pain (head, face, jaw, teeth, back, ear, muscle everywhere), numb, pressure left head and body, heavy, hard head, burning, poking, tingling and needling allover, situational OCD, anxiety, depression, occational heart pounding, ear pain in sleep, hot flush, apathy, heavy and sallow breathing, swallow head, hands, DP/DR, blurred and dimmed vision, confusion and cloudiness.

I sped up my taper in the past two yrs also for severe drug reaction caused by updose, DP/DR, cognitive issues, heart issues, pins and needles, severe legathy and others hard to know for sure if they are WD or drug.

for me there is no option to go back to meds of any type. I had to fast taper off as the reaction was causing more problems hard to live with.

Please tell them about your problems taking and withdrawing from antidepressants and/or benzos.

Send by email to petitions@parliament.scot and quote PE01651 in the subject heading. Keep to a maximum of 3 sides of A4 and you can't name for legal reasons any doctor you have consulted. Wow, when will this end??  I've had a horrible day today.  Sunday was wonderful.  My mood was good, almost stable, little burning sensations except for later that night.  I've been sleeping well on the Trazodone, anywhere from  50mg. to 150mg. depending on how much adrenaline is surging throughout my body.    Today my anxiety is severe, periods of severe depression.  It is such a contrast when the depression leaves.  I can feel it leave me like a black cloud moving away.  However the anxiety remains.  I only had three/four hours sleep last night.  I had 50mg. Trazodone, and fell asleep for three hours, then awoke unable to get back to sleep.  I have intruding thoughts that question everything I do or think which is very making me very irritated or angry.  Because I am in pain when I sit for too long or stand for a little bit, it is hard to find things to do to help myself feel better.  I would love to go for a walk, but I cannot walk.  My energy level is low as well, and not from not sleeping.  Even with eight hours sleep I feel tired.  I have sleep apnea, but cannot use my cpap machine because of my sinus congestion and burning in my nostrils from the air moving through them.

I had a nap this afternoon, but woke with intense anxiety making it difficult to breath.  Also I've had the chorea movements for most of the day with little breaks.  They are accompanied with anxiety, but not caused by anxiety.  I also feel restless, sensitive hearing, sensitive to light, digestive problems etc.

My husband and I had a discussion about what medication I would go back on if I were to choose to do so.  I have no idea which one because they all caused problems for me!!!!!!

Oh Genlady

Presumably you are thinking of going back on an antidepressant to cure your anxiety?  Do you think the anxiety is withdrawal still or original anxiety coming back, it is so hard for people to know.  I am having severe anxiety right now and have just had to consult my GP, so it is not looking good for me, but I am under a lot of social stress at the moment too.

I am telling you this so that you know you are not the only one.

I might add that the tricylic antidepressants caused me a lot more problems than the SSRIs, but the SSRIs have caused me a lot too.  Citalopram seems the less trouble for me, but they are all difficult.

I believe I am still having withdrawals because the symptoms I'm having haven't changed since I first started tapering off Celexa.  The most troublesome ones I have is the difficulty breathing, anxiety, burning sensations on my head and sometimes all over, involuntary muscles movements or chorea, blurred vision, digestive problems, mood swings.  I have been trying to lose weight, but my body does not want to let go of the fat.  My symptoms get worse in the evening around 7 pm...... every night.   I bought some 5htp today to try for  my mood, even though I take Trazodone at bedtime.  (50mg)   I have muscle weakness and pain as well which is hard since I suffer with arthritis as well.

My sinusis decided to drain a little more today.  I tried the nasal rinse and it burned so badly I couldn't finish.  I'm thinking I have some untreated inflammation further up .  I don't know what to do about that.  All in all nothing has changed and I still suffer terribly.

Hi Gen Lady :  I'm sorry for your pain ~ but I wouldn't add 5 htp  to the mix ~ it will only muddy the waters ~ complicate matters. I'm sure you're still in withdrawal ~ but that's ok. Eventually, it will recede.

Many SSRI's and SSNRI's over 20 years. Zoloft for 7 years followed by Effexor, Lexapro, Prozac, Cymbalta, Celexa, Pristiq, Valdoxan, Mianserin and more - on and off. No tapering. Cold turkey off Valdoxan - end of May 2014

Hi AliG,

Thanks for your input.  I think you are right about the 5htp.  I don't want to make things worse.  The one thing I haven't mentioned is I am experiencing depression and anxiety now more often and for longer periods of time and more severe.  I thought over time things were to increasingly get better with some bad times thrown in, but still better than they were the time before.  This is not happening with me.  I used to have periods of time , however short in which I could at least enjoy part of my day.  Now I am feeling miserable all day, every day.  I have noticed this especially over this past week or two.  I was able to help clean up in the kitchen before, but now I can not do anything ( except ocassionally )  I can no longer function.  I have thought about this for quite some time.  Wishing for all I'm worth that if I only wait a few more months I will see an improvement, but I am in a downward spiral.  I am going to make an appointment to see my doctor next week for a referral to a phyciatrist in order to be put back on an antidepressant/ anxiety medication., or at least talk about the possibility.  I have tried non drug approaches: relaxation exercises, mindfulness, imagery,  body scanning, thought stopping and nothing is helping.  I went through 5 hours of chorea movements overnight and today.  Yes, I am still having withdrawals, but at the same time I think my original illness is rearing its ugly head again.  Perhaps, this time medication and seeing phycologist will help in the long run.  I hope so. :(

Genlady, You have given this a really good go, you must feel really disappointed but I know how you feel.  It is tough to face the fact you may need something.

I tried 5 HTP but felt so ill when taking it, but I was still taking citalopram, I think the mix is not advised by anyone in the know.

I think it important that you let us all know where you go with this eventually.  I hate it when people drop off the forum without saying their outcome.  Some people will get off their meds and others won't, but you have not failed, you have tried a route which became inappropriate for you at this time.

I did this time and time again when I withdrew from diazepam but one day I did manage it.

Take care of yourself, have you any spare/old pills and have you thought of just taking those?

Today, I have had severe anxiety all day making it difficult to breath.  The burning sensations on my skin have been severe as well.... ALL OVER MY BODY!  My mood has been better the past two days.  I did phone my doctor for a referral to a physchiatrist, but I haven't heard for an appointment yet.  I would like to discuss with him my symptoms and what they might mean.  I may not be put on an antidepressant.    I think the symptom that is worst is the anxiety/ burning skin sensations.  I am still mourning the loss of my mom and the past few days we learned my son is in the hospital with a growth on his spleen which is filled with fluid.  The doctors don't know what it is and will be doing a biopsy later on this week.   Massaging the top of my head seems to settle down the burning sensations somewhat, plus it is relaxing.  Too bad I can't massage my head all day.

I am still taking the Trazodone to help with my sleeping.  I have been needing 100mg.  I tried rinsing my nose yesterday and boy did it burn!  I'm thinking they are starting to open up and they are very sensitive up there, or there is an infection which the antibiotics couldn't reach before.  I'm using essential oils with a diffuser which even that has started causing my sinusis to burn.   I'm using portion control and low fat diet to control my weight now.  I don't count calories and i don't count fat grams etc.  Now that I'm off the Prednisone I think my weight will come down again.

Hi genlady,

im so sorry you are suffering from these crazy symptoms too.

Burning allover is one of my worst symptoms too now I'm 4 months off the poison lexapro.

Is your burning on head too or just body? Does it cause pain when it's bad? Mine is worst on my head and it's very painful.

What help do you expect you can get from the doctor visit? are you considering going back to meds?

i hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Hi Lex,

The burning is also on my head and is very painful.  Sometimes the buring on my body is also severe and painful.  I have been off the Celexa for three months and the Prozac two months.  I think  IF I ask for anything from the doctor it will be something for the anxiety.  It was very severe yesterday and today it is moderate so far.  It is worst at night.  I took 150mg. of Trazodone last night to sleep and still could not sleep because of the anxiety and burning and painful muscles and joints and Chorea movements.  I have been sleeping most of today though.

So sorry you are still experiencing these symptoms as well.  It worries me that I don't know why I am burning all over so much; whether my nerves have been damaged or not.  My GP thinks the burning is due to anxiety, but I think this is a different kind of burning.  I never had this when I was anxious before.

Hi genlady,

burning is a very common WD symptom. I know many other have it too although not as severe as ours causing severe pain and allover including head which is the worst. Like all other symptoms, it is caused by these drugs and damage to nerves. My burning always is most severe and constant in day time and usually subsides in evening so it doesn't interfere with my sleep. Also for reasons I don't understand and very mysterious, I have 2 different sets of symptoms alternating every other day, with one day numb, paralysis, breathlessness, etc and the other day burning, needling, pain head and body.  So I do get break from this very intolerable sxs every other day.

Others say it can take very long time for the burning to go away, but it eventually will go away. So let's just stay strong and patient until our body heals.

I saw my doctor yesterday to get some help with pain from Fibromyalgia and arthritis.  I am on Lyrica for pain, but with the withdrawals the pain has become unbearable.  I'm not able to stand very long for a shower without ending in excrutiating pain in my back and hips.  I was prescribed Cymbalta at a very low dose and an anti inflammatory.  I'm tapering off the dilaudid, so I'll have some withdrawals from that drug.  I was told I have a small hole between the upper chambers of my heart which could cause mini strokes.  I will be seeing a cardiologist for that.  I am also having rebound pain from being on Prednisone.  Fun, fun , fun.  My anxiety level has risen since my doctor appointment.  My eldest son had a biopsy of a growth on his spleen to see if it is Cancerous.  There is no good news from me this time.  :(

I had a good day today.  My pain level has been reduced, but still very painful muscles.  I rejoined Weight Watchers tonight in hopes of losing a great deal of weight.  Tonight I haven't had any burning sensations , but the anxiety is creeping up on me.  I still have ringing in my ears, but that comes and goes now.  It has been about 1 week on the Cymbalta and my emotional health has been better.  My son is doing well.  I'm going to try and sleep in a bed again tonight with a pillow under my knees for my back.  I do not regret going onto the Cymbalta.  For the first time in a long while I  enjoyed going out to dinner and a show with my husband.

Good for you Genlady.  What does of Cymbalta are you taking?  I am afraid I can't see signatures again.  I have had a bad time recently on my 18 mg citalopram and have had to go back to 20 mg and am now feeling a lot better.  I did try 30 mg for a while but that was too much for me.

How great that you have had time out and about with your husband, he must be relieved too.

Keep letting us know how you are doing please.

It's been over a month since I last posted.  I have been having lots of health issues that have kept me busy with doctor appointments.  I now have a surgery date for my hip replacement:  May 31.  I saw a specialist for my sinus problem this week and found out I have a thinning of bone between my sinus cavity and my brain which is causing some concern.  I now have to see a surgeon for my sinusis.  I see the cardiologist next month about the hole in my heart which could lead to a stroke.  I still have the chorea movements, burning sensations on my head and sometimes all over.  I am sleeping well with the help of Trazodone.  I am now off the hydromorphone for pain.  The Cannibis is helping with my back pain.

I am concerned about the burning sensations and chorea movements.  Could I still be having withdrawals from the Celexa even though I am now taking Cymbalta?

I am now on 90mg of Cymbalta for pain.  Unfortunately, I am having terrible side effects on this dosage which I have been on for two weeks.  Although I am phoning my doctor tomorrow to decrease my dosage , she believes Cymbalta does NOT cause withdrawal symptoms.  I DON'T believe her.  I can only get 30mg. and 60mg. capsules here, so going down slowly will be difficult at 5% which is what I plan on doing.  I recently ( October of last year) discontinued Celexa and my nervous system is very unstable right now.  I was hoping someone could tell me how to decrease the Cymbalta.

Stopping Cymbalta too quickly can most certainly cause withdrawal symptoms, we have many members who have needed to taper it slowly. Here is our Cymbalta tapering topic:

My story http://survivingantidepressants.org/index.php?/topic/4199-hello-mammap-checking-in/page-33

Lesson learned, slow down taper at lower doses. Taper no more than 10% of CURRENT dose if possible

I was on 60 mg. Cymbalta for pain and anxiety.  I was still in pain from degenerative arthritis in my lower back and neck and hip.  She therefore increased my dosage.to 90mg. which is as high as I can go.  Last night I only took 60mg. at bedtime,  and this morning the 30mg. So far I'm feeling much better splitting the dosage.  I'm needing to travel next week for another doctor appointment out of town, so I don't want to mess with the dosage too much as yet.

July Medications: Started taking antidepressants in 1981, also benzos off and on; antiphychotics , anti-seizure for years.   Trazodone, Lamotrigine, Klonopin for over 10 years   all at maximum dosages,:Disconcontinued Klonopin in month of February 2011,  discontinued Trazodone and Lamotrigine   in month of March 2011 while in hosptial.  Given Seroquel to "help" go off Klonopin  gradually increased to 600 mg ; doctor took me off 600 mg. Seroquel in two weeks, and switched to Resperidal  because of weight gain on Seroquel, went off Resperidal quickly,   then gradually reinstated  Seroquel to 600 mg. at my request.   Went off Seroquel by myself at 25mg. per month in 2014.     Last medication Seroquel completely off since May 2016. Also went off Morphine at the same time as last 25 mg. of Seroquel in May 2016. Started tapering Celexa 40mg. to 35mg.  on 11 Aug. 2016  ; 16 Oct. Celexa 32.5 mg.; 6 Nov. 2016:  30mg. , 50 mg abt. Feb 26 with occasional 30mg.  , : May 10, 2017 began tapering rapidly because of adverse reaction to Celexa;, 40 mg. Celexa;   May 24, 2017: 35mg Celexa.;  June 8, 2017, 30 mg. Celexa, June 22, 2017 25mg.Celexa,; July 6,2017 20mg. CELEXA, July 20: 15mg.; August 10: Sep 29 2017: 10mg. Celexa + 10mg. Prozac, 5 Oct, 2017:  5mg. Celexa + 10mg.
